That goal line stand cost the skins the game. Doesn't really matter who is qb.

OMG, ARE had a decent punt return. Hell is freezing over.

First we need to win this game.

Posted by: Skew | December 14, 2008 3:26 PM | Report abuse

I was going to kill someone if that penalty was on us again on that punt.

Let's get points right here. Moss all day.

Not gonna happen (points). Game was over in first quarter.

They are pulling out all the stops ... might not be enough ...

Ok, let is be KNOWN. PORTIS FUMBLED! That is a mistake, Clinton.

Posted by: dc4mckinney | December 14, 2008 3:30 PM | Report abuse

did portis just not make a mistake again...

Posted by: BeantownGreg | December 14, 2008 3:30 PM | Report abuse

Look for the referees to call this play back.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 14, 2008 3:30 PM | Report abuse

He fumbled because he was so tired from actually having to practice this week.

Posted by: swowra | December 14, 2008 3:31 PM | Report abuse

DUMB CHALLENGE...... THAT'S WORST THAN SOME OF ZORNS CHALLENGES........ IT WAS STILL A 1ST DOWN

Posted by: michael_b_clegg | December 14, 2008 3:31 PM | Report abuse

But CIN gets a third challenge.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 14, 2008 3:32 PM | Report abuse

clegg, is that correct, was he beyond the first down marker?

Posted by: BeantownGreg | December 14, 2008 3:32 PM | Report abuse

Fumbles reflect the mental state of this team.

Posted by: dc4mckinney | December 14, 2008 3:32 PM | Report abuse

He didn't fumble - which means he didn't get the first down. Another punt.

Posted by: austin987654 | December 14, 2008 3:32 PM | Report abuse

i don't think Portis did got the first down

Posted by: rachel216 | December 14, 2008 3:33 PM | Report abuse

Could've gone either way.

My guess: 4th down.

Bad teams don't get lucky breaks. Even against bad teams.

Posted by: dc4mckinney | December 14, 2008 3:33 PM | Report abuse

Look at it on Fox it looks like a first down.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 14, 2008 3:34 PM | Report abuse

Offensive players are doing their best to get Zorn run out of town, aren' they?

Posted by: swowra | December 14, 2008 3:34 PM | Report abuse

I don't know whether Cinci's DL is fast or simply that CP is slow. That's been three times I've seen him get tackled from behind where someone's caught up to him.

Can we stop running the damn ball every first down?

JM220

Posted by: icetotalpackage | December 14, 2008 3:37 PM | Report abuse

CP 24 for only 72 yards against Cincinnati ... plus a fumble.

Posted by: periculum | December 14, 2008 3:37 PM | Report abuse

gotta throw the dang ball....all of a sudden moss is invisible?

Posted by: BeantownGreg | December 14, 2008 3:37 PM | Report abuse

'Skins have 8 penalties for 70 or so yards.

Good job gang. Great discipline.

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | December 14, 2008 3:37 PM | Report abuse

Looking at it again, they got just his jersey, not any pads.

Cooley - short again!

Posted by: dc4mckinney | December 14, 2008 3:37 PM | Report abuse

CP is calling the plays now. So of course we run on 1st down.

Posted by: periculum | December 14, 2008 3:38 PM | Report abuse

This is just death by a thousand cuts.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 14, 2008 3:38 PM | Report abuse

Supposedly 4th quarter is when CP takes over and breaks the D's back.

Posted by: swowra | December 14, 2008 3:38 PM | Report abuse

They had to do something this drive. This drive was probably their last chance to win the game. The defense is probably tired and CIN will probably run the ball right through them.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 14, 2008 3:39 PM | Report abuse

playcalling once again sucks...

Posted by: periculum | December 14, 2008 3:39 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | December 14, 2008 3:42 PM | Report abuse

Nice overthrow jason.

This season is over. You would think this offense would look a lot better after facing Ravens and Steelers' defenses. They look so bad even against this bengals defense. if they miraculously make the playoffs they'll go nowhere.

Posted by: rachel216 | December 14, 2008 3:42 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, I beginning to wonder how much longer the JC experiment is going to last.

Posted by: swowra | December 14, 2008 3:42 PM | Report abuse

Thomas, Betts, Sellers, Portis, ARE, combined 3 catches.

That is the offensive problem in a nut shell...JZ/JC won't trust these guys. Wont go to them during the game, instead its SM/CC when the other team knows it.

Posted by: BeantownGreg | December 14, 2008 3:42 PM | Report abuse

7 minutes left in this season. If bengals score here this is the same game as the Ravens game.

"When did the wheels come off of this team? I'm thinking the Steelers game.

Posted by: swowra | December 14, 2008 3:40 PM | Report abuse "

They came off when they started making stupid mistakes. I'm not sure what the exact point is, but I would mention that interception midway in the 3rd quarter in the second NYG game. I would perhaps mention the blocked punt in the PIT game. Then there's Pete Kendall fumble in the STL game.

I would say, though, that Snyder has lost his confidence in Zorn. Otherwise he wouldn't have allowed Portis to come on his own radio station to attack the coach. Snyder is wrong to allow players to undermine Zorn like that.

That being said, however, I wonder if Snyder picked Zorn because there was no one else available. And I wonder if Snyder secretly hoped for the best with Zorn, also thinking that he would replace him if the season turned south.

It wouldn't suprise me if Snyder hasn't already privately approached Cowher directly or sent signals through indirect channels to him. At this point I'm not sure if Cowher would want to come here unless Snyder could personally assure him that he would back him up and not let players undermine him on his radio station.

Go see this movie- "The Express", the story of Ernie Davis, Syracuse RB and Heisman trophy winner, drafted by the Borwnsrowns but never played due to leukemia. He died at age 23. Saw it last night with my kids, we loved it. Someone to respect and admire.

Posted by: cocodc1 | December 14, 2008 3:47 PM | Report abuse

this is the part where bengals run out all the clock and then throw a long touchdown, just like ravens game last week. final score 24-10.

wake up man, Cowher isn't coming to Dc unless VC and DS stay the hell out of the way. It isn't going to happen.

The JC experiment should be put to rest. Let JZ get his players to run his offense, then see what happens.

I know this game is not over but it's not looking good. Interesting:

Points given up by Cincy:
Ravens- 17 pts
Titans- 24 pts
Giants- 26 pts
Browns- 20 pts
Cowboys- 31 pts
Jets- 26 pts
Steelers- 38 pts
Texans- 35 pts
Jaguars- 19 pts
Eagles- 13 pts
Steelers- 27 pts
Ravens- 34 pts

Our AWESOME offense: 10 pts!!!

But let me ask the question. What coaches would you pick for this team, pretending that the organizational issues don't exist? Who would you think would be ideally suited to turn this sorry franchise around?

Posted by: jiacinto | December 14, 2008 3:50 PM | Report abuse

Hey look. The Bengals were able to get 1 yard. Funny (and sad) that the 'Skins couldn't do the same on the goalline.

Vinny won't be detached from DS's backside without major elective surgery on Danny's part. As a result, no head coach worth his salt will ever come here again, no matter how much money Danny boy offers him.

The Redskins are the greatest marketing circus in a league which still insists on playing football. The Redskins reflect the priority of their ownership, extracting the maximum $ from a declining, disinterested fan base while proping up the ego of a modern day Napoleon.

Posted by: lifelongfan | December 14, 2008 4:03 PM | Report abuse

Swh29--I'm not on the "Fire Zorn" bandwagon per se, but I find it hard to see how he can hold his job after this game. I feel kind of bad for Zorn because Snyder allowed players to undermine him on his own radio station. I don't think that Zorn had much of a chance.

But then again I am not sure if Zorn had ever been Snyder's first choice. I know that Steve Spagonolo received an offer, but rejected Snyder. (And I don't blame him either). So I think that Snyder picked Zorn because there was no one else left; and, for some reason, they didn't want Gregg Williams. So I think that Snyder tried to make the best out of a bad situation.

When the team started out 4-1 and 6-2 he was happy. When everything started turning south I'm sure that he let it all fall apart so that he could find someone else. I think that that's why he allowed Portis to come on his own radio station to undermine Zorn.

So I think that Zorn's time in Washington is probably short. I think that Snyder may already be talking either through indirect channels or directly in private to Bill Cowher. At some point in the recent losing streak he may have made the decision to quietly start looking for a replacement. Otherwise I'm not sure if he would have allowed Portis come on his own radio station and trash the coach.

I could be totally wrong here, but that's how I see the situation. Frankly, given that a 4-1 and 6-2 start has turned to mush, determining whether to keep Zorn or not is a valid question. While part of me wants to keep him, given the severity of the late season slide, I'm not sure if I would make that decision.

Ultimately I think that a lot depends on what potential coaches are out there and who wants to come to DC. There may not be anyone out there or there may be someone. But I'm not sure who wants to come to the madhouse that currently exists in Ashburn.

AS always the deadskins provide a good laugh as inept coaching, ownership and players demonstrate how not to play the game. The one thing that the dwarf owner will never get is any time of championship. Too bad this use to be a good team when it had a good owner, a GM who knows and understands football rather than sucking up to the owner, and had player who could play. There is no draft or trade that can ever save this group from last place. Go to Baltimore of Philidelphia if you want to see good football but put the skins with the rest of the DC team, mediocre at their very best. LOL

Zorn has lost the team. That was the most pathetic performance by professional players with something to play for that I have ever seen. I think Zorn could be a good coach however, only if they get rid of most of the team. Since that won't happen the only choice is to fire the coach. It should happen today. They should play rookies and backups the rest of the year. In the offseason they should fire Vinny (not going to happen) and trade any player they can get a draft pick for. I would shoot for at least 50 percent turnover of the roster. Most of the players on this team have a loser mentality. Move them on and start over.

Posted by: az_david

what I heard indicates an apothetic team and a mediocre QB with few weapons to throw to. JC was off the first half, and the run blocking, supposedly sucked. CP, aka"prima donna queen" didn't exactly light it up today. Zorn can't actually run the plays. The players need to block better, catch better, throw more accurately, and run better, period. It is on the players at this level.

Posted by: lsskinsfan | December 14, 2008 4:14 PM | Report abuse

I have had it with this team, I have defended them all year. They had no heart out there today. If your going to keep Zorn as coach you need to bring in a OC with experience.

They need to blow this team up and start from scratch no one should feel confident about having a job next year.

That was the most inept offense I have ever seen, get f_ing creative they do the same bullsh!t every week.

It is unfathomable how anybody can defend Jim Zorn for this team. For a team looking for a playoff run to come out against a 1-11-1 team this way is 100% a reflection of the head coach.

Zorn is done. There shouldn't even be an argument. We laughed when Snyder and Cerrato announced him as our head coach in February. Turns out our instincts were right on the money.

The line is horrid. What is the QB talk? When we were 6-2 it was all roses now we're not you make him the scapegoat. It's the line. You guys need to know football. If we don't have receivers that get open and we have a bad line it's trouble. Campbell got these awards:
* Music City Bowl MVP (2003)
* First-team All-SEC (2004)
* SEC Offensive Player of the Year (2004)
* SEC Championship Game MVP (2004)
* Quarterbacked Auburn's perfect 13-0 season (2004)
* Sugar Bowl MVP (2005)
* 5x SEC Offensive Player of the Week
* NFC Offensive Player of the Week (Week 5, 2007)

The "Colt"'s team lost 44-10 in the Sugar Bowl. Wow I wonder what excuse you can make for that. He was embarrassing. He's not good that is why he didn't get drafted until the 6th round and by us no less.

What I don't understand is what the difference is between the first and the second half of the season. From 6-2 to 7-7. What changed?

what has not been said about this team? They are a flat out joke! it should be an interesting off season...which by the way is the real Redskins season.......stay tuned

The troubling part is that in week 14 this offense still has no identity. To make matters worse the defense which has lead this team has given long drives at the end of the games because of playing so much the first three quarters given this inept offense. I'm hoping JZ is given three years to prove himself, but he must make changes and lessen some of the gameday stuff he's handling.

I really need to rethink renewing my season tickets...As long as the skins keep the current coaching staff, Jason Campbell and Clinton Portis, the team won't get any better. Campbell looks like he has no idea what's going on. The play calling is terrible. The team hasn't scored a first quarter touch down since October?

Wonder if we could get one of the heisman candidates?

Zorn has lost the team.
--------------------------------------------

And I blame Daniel Snyder for this. Snyder allowed Portis to undermine Zorn on his own radio station. Instead of backing up the coach, Snyder allowed Zorn to be undermined. Good owners don't let players undermine the coach like that.

I've said it all afternoon, but what happened last week points to one key conclusion. To begin with I think that Snyder didn't want Zorn but had to settle for him because Steve Spagonolo didn't want the jobs and Snyder didn't want Gregg Williams. That left him with Zorn.

As long as the team was 4-1 and 6-2 Snyder supported Zorn. Once Zorn's losing streak began he lost confidence. I think that, at some point, Zorn lost Snyder's support. So that's why Snyder allowed Portis to go on his radio station to undermine Zorn. Otherwise I'm not sure if Snyder would have allowed Zorn to do that.

At some point in the last few weeks I think that Snyder privately decided to get rid of Zorn. It wouldn't surprise me if Snyder hasn't already contacted Bill Cowher either directly or through indirect channels.

I'm not sure how Zorn keeps his job after this loss. Losing to CIN is just too bad and very indefensible.

Campbell got these awards:
* Music City Bowl MVP (2003)
* First-team All-SEC (2004)
* SEC Offensive Player of the Year (2004)
* SEC Championship Game MVP (2004)
* Quarterbacked Auburn's perfect 13-0 season (2004)
* Sugar Bowl MVP (2005)
* 5x SEC Offensive Player of the Week

If Campbell had been a Heisman finalist, his college career would have equaled Heath Shuler's.

Ok. So now Cincinatti dares the Skins to try and beat them passing by stacking 8 and 9 in the box. And they score, whowee 13 points. The last 3 courtesy of an 87 yard kickoff return.

Oh, yeah, I know, Sellers fumbled on the one. If he hadn't of fumbled, do you think the Skins could have scored from the one on the 3rd try...or had to kick a field goal. Who knows?

Point is, Campbell had less than 200 passing yards. He threw behind receivers, over receivers, to the wrong recievers...BUT you say, this is a new offense to him...to this 4th year NFL QB with a lifetime losing NFL record. And somehow Matt Ryan, and Joe Flacco can lead their teams to victories in their first year in the League in a new offense.

Maybe because they're not just guys with strong arms, but strong armed QBs that can see the field, control the huddle, and can throw with accuracy...all traits Campbell lacks.

But keep him starting. We need to go 7-9 so we can get higher picks for next year's draft. Why shoot for the playoffs with the NCAA's all time leading passer (Colt Brennan) or a guy who led us to 5 straight wins last year (Todd Collins)? No, we want to hear the weekly excuses of how it's the lines fault, Seller's fault, the receiver's fault, the new offense, he's still learning the system (god, you'd think this was rocket science...is he that stupid), etc., etc., etc.

For those who follow my posts, I've been saying since Week 1 that the Skins had potential, but I thought Campbell was going to slow them down. When they were 6-2, I said yep, they're winning, but it's not because of the offense. And yet the same people who praised Campbell when they were 6-2 refuse to acknowledge he is a #2 QB at best...AT BEST!!!

Colt did get blown out in his bowl game against Georgia last year. He was outmatched. June Jones did wonders with that team, but of course they weren't going to compete wtih a Georgia. I'd love to see what Brennan can do with targets like Cooley and Moss. Who knows, maybe he would even have better chemestry with Kelly and Thomas.

The line can be blamed over and over, and they do deserve some, but Campbell doesn't know how to read a defense, he doesn't make good decisions. Honestly I am not sure Campbell is smart enough to process what he is looking at when standing at the line. Either way JC is a bust. Add him to the Heath Shuler and the rest of our qb's frm the late 90's club

Wasn't gannon the cannon in that group too? Another winner. Ohh and Hassleback's brother... he was a talent too... for the whole three games he started.

I want Jason to go to another team so he can come back and beat the s##t out of the Redskins i'm tired of the idiotic post on this blog this kid has had to figure out three or four different offensive scheme's over the last four years. He has had to put up with a conservative coach stuck in his own glorified past(Gibbs) a Gm who mismanaged draft picks(by not drafting depth on the O-line) and damn near got him killed everytime he has gone back to pass,a rookie coach who can't or won't take advantage of his strenghts(going downfield) and who is full of himself so much so that he decides at this point in the season to have a power struggle with his only true offensive threat and we keep talking about Campbell's so called lack of reading a defense PLEASE!!!.

Well, I agree with dargregmag on one point. I want Campbell to go to a different team. Not that I think he would come back to beat the Skins like dargregmag notes. Just to make another team as subpar as the Skins.

You can blame the offensive woes on the O-line all you want. That's a pretty good line. They can't stop 8 man pass rushes. That's what other teams are throwing at the Skins now because they know Campbell can't read defenses and chokes under pressure. It takes a QB who understands when and where to throw to beat the blitz. This is the same line that Collins was behind for 5 straight victories over 5 opponents seeking to get into the playoffs last year. And in one year the entire line has completely lost it? Or is it the QB who has a losing record over his 4 year career...hmmm...this is rocket science. But no, don't blame the QB. It's a new system, it's the line, it's the coaching, it's anything but the QB, it's anything but what on any good team makes that team work. This guy is like Michael Vick/Daute Culpeper/Ryan Leaf/Heath Schuler...high pick burnout that Campbell fans are waiting to see him suddenly get it...but he never will. In sum, he's a coach killer. And if they fire Zorn, I guess Campbell will have to learn a 5th offensive system...and then when the Skins continue to lose they'll blame the coach and the O-line again because Campbell doesn't get it.

You can quote what he did at Auburn all you want. It's college football...not pro. How many great college QBs have done nada in the pros?...too many to count.
