Jim Haslett impressed with Michael Vick's passing

By Jason Reid

Count Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett among many in the NFL who have become increasingly impressed with quarterback Michael Vick's improvement as a passer this season.

"I'm not a quarterback coach. I just know this: He can throw the thing about 75 yards in the air," Haslett said of the Eagles star. "Our safeties better be way back when he throws it. That's all I can tell you. I don't know if shuffling his feet [has improved his accuracy]. I have seen him throw off his other foot. I have seen him throw sideways. I have seen him throwing on the run.

"I saw one early in the season, he threw 65 yards on a rope right down the middle of the field and he was running sideways. I don't think his feet really have anything to do with it. He can throw it. He's been accurate. I think it's been more of the scheme than anything. He's a heck of a player."

Vick throws his FIRST pick of the year in this game. Book it!

If Brady was QBing the Eagles tomorrow, I'd have no hesitation picking the Skins. But Vick? Smart money is on the Eagles.

Posted by: Thinker_ | November 15, 2010 5:16 AM

So basically you're saying Brady is less dangerous than Vick because he can't run like a punt returner?

Disagree.

The Eagles are probably undefeated if he's got DJack and Maclin on the edges and McCoy out of the backfield. I still don't like their line but I think he could still get his in spite of it.

Vick provides an added dimension to the offense but I'm still not sold that he'll pick you apart from the pocket. I'll believe that when I see it against a good defense...lighting up the Lions and the Jags doesn't move me.

He's gone all year without throwing a pick...I'd venture to say he'll have a couple in this game. If we can't harass him into a couple big mistakes or at least edge out a division opponent we've already seen once this year...at home...coming off a bye...then this team just ain't what we thought it was. Even .500 teams should be able to handle that task, Vick or no Vick...

By the way...told y'all the Giants weren't for real...

What if the plan all along was to announce Donovan's extention before this very game tonight? With the Giants losing, this game became way more important.

"the plan"! If that was "the plan" it would already have been posted up here by Jason Reid, the Redskins Insider. Or, maybe it would have been posted on Pro Football Talk. Or at least on BeantownGreg's Football Talk.

Really, FedorEm, "the plan"? Can't you just hear them out at Redskins Park? "We'll trade for McNabb, but we won't sign him to a contract extension right away. We'll do it at a bombshell moment -- the second Eagles game! Wow! And, hey, to get the most bang for the buck, let's pull him in the last two minutes of the game before the break!" It shouldn't be "the plan" but "The Plan."

Wow, breaking story. Haslett impressed with Vick! At this stage, everyone seems impressed. Gut feeling Skins squeak out a win!

Man I don't feel well this morning, I feel sick to my stomach. Maybe it was the Chinese take-out last night, or it could have been I actually rooted for the Cowpies last night, how do the trolls do it every week? Well, I guess a pig is used to eating slop, oh well, 2nd Place and 1 game out of 1st here we come!!!

The Eagles aren't worldbeaters. It's not like they're the '07 Pats or something...they're a good but flawed football team that's riding the wave of an electric player like Vick. If you contain him, that team is decidedly average.

We've had two weeks to prepare. We're at home. We've already played them once so we should have a better idea of what's coming and how to play it. We have multiple advantages going into this game and it's criminal if we don't parlay that into a win.

Did the skins win yesterday? Couldn't find it anywhere! Had the damn Bears game on!

How is it that ESPN has about 4 stories on Mcnabbs contract extension and our boy JReid hasn't even had one post up?

By the time the skins play the cowboys, I am guessing dallas will have 10 losses.

Brown I will say tonight's game is a very serious test of Shanny & Co: because of the points you make, i.e time to prepare, but also this is a must-win game, so if Coach can't motivate his guys to overachieve, then we have a problem...

At this point of the season this is the most important game this year. If we lose, you can basically count us out of the running for the NFC East title cause we'd be 2 games out of both the Eagles and G-men and no longer control our own destiny in the Division, at least as far as the Eagles go. But if we win, we prove some people wrong, like Marshall Faulk who said last week that the East was a 2 team race cause us and the Cowpies were out of it! I hope we take this game and shove it down the throats of all the haters!!! This game means everything, DON'T SCREW IT UP MCNABB!!!

I heard that Vick has been wearing Kevlar to protect the rib cage.

Is that allowed? Dude can just throw on a bullet-proof vest and play?

Can't wait to see Laron Landry roll out on the field wearing lobstered-steel gauntlets...

Posted by: p1funk | November 15, 2010 8:57 AM | Report abuse

Well, if Haslett is worried about Vick throwing deep, then he better not drop Doughty back into coverage. I'm not suggesting Doughty is slow, but when he ran the forty at the combine, they used a sun dial to time him...

Seriously, I don't know if their rookie safety - Anderson Russell - is very fast, but if he has any speed at all, he'd be a better fit in deep coverage than Doughty.

And a a hit or two to Vick's Achilles rib wouldn't be a bad way to go either.

50% chance of rain tonight.

Sloppy weather/sloppy field = help neutralize the speed of Vick/Maclin/DJax

Go rain! Go!

Swinging gate, here we come...

I don't think the outcome of the game tonight will be on McNabb's shoulders. If the Redskins are going to win, they need Ryan Torain to have a HUGE game, which means the offensive linemen had better play like their careers depended on it. Control the clock, keep Vick off the field, and when Vick is on the field don't give up the big play. Make the Eagles work and hurt for every yard. In a nutshell, play NFC East football.

very impressive win last night by the pats, which kinda makes me puke in my mouth a little....so very friggin jelly of that oline...and how they take marginal players, Woodhead/Green-Ellis, and make them very productive....

Posted by: BeantownGreg1 | November 15, 2010 9:21 AM | Report abuse

Everyone has been on the Eagles bandwagon. I predict another surprising win by the Redskins except this time it will be more convincing.

The Skins will rally behind Donovan and be excellent on all three phases of the game especially the offensive line, which feels largely responsible for Donovan's ineffectiveness. Torain will run for over 100 again. Donovan will compose the first part of his 2010 Magnus Opus. Deangelo will give Vick his first two picks of the year, and Vick will be largely ineffective save for a few big runs.

If by "NEVER, EVER" you mean "twice in 25 games" then yes...

What absolutely mystifies me is how Brady scored on a QB sneak from about 6 yards out. For a defense of Pittsburgh's ilk, that's TOTALLY unacceptable...

Posted by: brownwood26 | November 15, 2010 9:39 AM | Report abuse

brown, the pats eviscerated them all night long....kinda hard to pick one particular play...JHarrison was invisible last night...goes to show that when you put ZERO pressure on Brady, he'll pick you apart...its like Pitt didn't even watch the Cleveland game....

Posted by: brownwood26 | November 15, 2010 9:39 AM | Report abuse

They had a couple things going against them. First off, they were down a couple good beefy players up front, and second the Pats have a decent Oline, plus the fact that they are 23-2 after a loss. I don't care how good Pittsburgh's D is, they just ran into a frieght train at exactly the wrong time!

Posted by: monk811 | November 15, 2010 9:49 AM | Report abuse

Monk, Greg...I get that, you don't lose like they did without multiple breakdowns...just sayin' that an immoble QB that runs the 40 in 4.EVER shouldn't get in the end zone from 6 yards out on a dive play. That just defies logic...

It also defies logic that Patrick Ramsey keeps getting calls...the Fins might bring him in now that Miami lost both of their Chads...
