Zorn hasn't decided on a quarterback
Contrary to a report, Washington Redskins Coach Jim Zorn has not made a final decision on a starting quarterback for Monday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles at FedEx Field, league sources said late Monday night.
Starter Jason Campbell -- benched at halftime of Sunday's dreary 14-6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs -- and longtime backup Todd Collins both still were in the mix to lead the team's ineffective offense against the Eagles. In a meeting Monday afternoon with the quarterbacks, Zorn, who was stripped of play-calling duties this week, would only recommit to Campbell to a degree, sources said, telling the fifth-year player he would "likely start."
But Zorn also told Collins, who provided an early spark against the Chiefs but also struggled in the loss, to "be ready," and informed Campbell and Collins he would make a final call later this week.
Meanwhile, several players privately expressed confusion about how the team's new play-calling system will work.
The plan is for Lewis, who will sit in the press box, to give the calls to Zorn, who will remain on the sideline and relay the information to Campbell or Collins. But Lewis performed poorly when he was permitted to call plays previously in his career, league sources said, and is unfamiliar with the Redskins' offensive terminology, personnel, running game and pass-protection schemes.

Contrary to a report by the Washington Post's Jason Reid, Jim Zorn has 100% come to a concrete decision on Monday Night's starting Quarter Back.
It is just that Zorn is keeping it hush hush...
It's helping Sherm stay "medium" in preparation. You know, keep the mind open and all that... like water, reflecting all the images around you.
I think Zorn hypnotized his way into the HC job

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that is just simply incredilous that Zorn still has control over who plays, but the play calls are coming from someone else.
What if the defense dictates certain packages/players not in the game? What does the playcaller call?
You have to call plays that work and plays that work comes from immediate feedback on the field.
You cannot just call plays and expect them to be executed without consideration for the Defense and the players you have on the field.
The reason why playcalling got taken away from the quarterback is because the coaches on the sideline could see what the defense was doing and thereby get better offensive play calls in to the QB.
If you just call plays and expect them to be executed, without taking into account your own personnel and what the defense is doing, you are pissing in the dark.
Can somebody please tell me this isn't what we are doing.

Look, I agree that Lewis calling the plays after having been in town for 2 weeks seems like a recipe for putting on a show that more resembles a Shriners parade entry, but can it really be any worse than it has been? I mean, significantly worse?
My guess is that Zorn and Lewis are sitting down this week and scripting the first, what, dozen plays? Then they're simplifying the myriad of plays that can be called down to another 20 to 25 choices. (Funny, but as I type this, it feels strongly reminiscent of Gibbs 2 when they scaled down the Al Saunders Gutenberg press playbook.)
These guys aren't idiots. They know this could be a mess so they're probably trying to minimize the potential for confusion. The result will be a game that looks much like the other games -- which is to say, uninspired.

However, what you have indicated how I should have spelled is not even close.

Being a Redskin fan who lives in another state I don't get a chance to see all the games so its hard for me to get a feel of whats going on with my beloved Skins. I do feel for Jim Zorn though....he took a job under a owner who runs the team as a "hobby", he has a GM with no clue on putting a team together and despite all the other drama he now has to deal with, the man is STILL trying to get this team going. He has demonstrated, at least to me, a passion/pride...a caring for this team,if you will, that I never saw with Turner, Schottenheimer or Spurrier. We've changed the coaches and we've changed the players...when are Dan and Vinny gonna stop and realize the only thing that hasn't changed in this equation of bad seasons....is them??!!

Aye, aye, Larry.
zilla, while both teams come in with something to prove, I think the difference is the Eagles are good enough to do something about it...
I do think the Skins will rise up and steal a game they have no business winning over a far superior, playoff-bound division foe. Since that will infuriate us all the more, sending us into a week-long bender over what coulda been. I just don't think the Skins are beating the Iggles this coming Monday. The team is in free fall. I'd love to be proven wrong.

Here's what's going to happen, Monday night is Zorn's last game.
He ate what Cerrato served as to the play calls this week.
He knows he's done after Monday Night win or lose so BINGO Sherm, be prepared for Zorn to throw out every play you call and call his own. Campbell's going to be QB as well. The two are tied together and if Zorn's going out, he'll do the decent thing and give Jason his last start as this franchise's QB.
They'll fire Zorn for ignoring BINGO Sherm but they'll have to pay him as well. As for Campbell, he'll be on the bench the rest of the season and in two years, he be an All-Pro on another team and one of the top 10 QB's in the league.
Meanwhile Cerrato and Snyder will still be doing their flush dance of love together here ruining what's left of this franchise.

I can't wait to see how many delay of game penalties come about because it takes 2 calls to make a play call. Something like this
Sherm: Hi Jim, this is Sherm, lets run a 23 X left.
Jim: What, I couldn't hear you over the booing.
Sherm: 23 X left
Jim: OK, thanks Sherm
Jim: Jason, what Sherm thinks we should run is a 23 X left. That's 23 X left. I hope it works because its Sherm's call and on scale of 1 to 10, I think that play isn't a 10. But I'm OK with it, so make it happen.
Jason goes into the huddle.
Jason: 23 X left.
The team breaks the huddle and hears a whistle.
Ref: 5 yards, delay of game

More than play calling, you need to be able to make the plays that are called. Find six plays that work (the hard part), number them 1 to 6, stick a dice in your pocket and when you need a play, pull out the dice, read the number and call the play, at least it will be harder for the defense to figure you out.

If they script the first 15 plays, given recent history, that should take them through to halftime.
And I think Coach Gray will want to install a new offense for the second half.

Jason Campbell keeps his job, for now
Posted by Mike Florio on October 20, 2009 7:03 AM ET
ESPN's Chris Mortensen hinted at it early last night, and NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports it with certainty -- Jason Campbell will remain the starting quarterback of the Washington Redskins.
The news comes after coach Jim Zorn initially suggested after Sunday's loss that the benching of Campbell for Todd Collins was a one-time thing, and then explaining Monday that a decision had not been made for Week Seven.
And while Zorn said the decision would be his, Mort suggested that new play-caller Sherm Lewis preferred Campbell.
Whether Campbell is on a short leash remains to be seen, along with whether Zorn or Lewis would be the one to yank the starter out of the game.
Posted by: Flounder21 | October 20, 2009 7:12 AM | Report abuse
So to sum up, Sherm Lewis doesn't "know" "the" "offensive" "plays,"
or even the "difference" "between" a "run" and a "pass."
He won't "learn" "the" "players'" "names;"
He's not interested in "winning" "football" "games"
Or, "entertaining" "stupid" "fans."
He doesn't "remember" "what" "the" "ball" "looks" "like,"
Or "how" "to" "interact" "with" "other" "coaches."
He's just "in" "it" "for" "himself,"
And to "prove" "the" "league" "was" "wrong,"
And to "get" "away" "from" "his" "stinking" "wife,"
And to "taste" "some" "of" "that" "crazy" "cracker" "Snyder" "money"
And get an "autograph" "from" "Tom" "Cruise" for his "granddaughter"...

Maybe someone can explain it to me...
Why are we crying a river for Jim Zorn...a week ago he was crucified by fans and media for his playcalling. We are 2-4 and in a disasatous situation. I may be alone on this but, I'm curious to see what can be done different. Yes, the whole thing needs to be blown up, but you can't do it mid season.
I don't understand why any player would be upset with any changes or bichin to the media about anything. They STINK and no one's job should be safe!

What exactly has Campbell done to earn the starter's job this week?
He certainly has not played any better than Collins -- either during the game or during practice this week -- or at any other time during the long and forgetable season thus far.
I'd say keep JC on the bench until we have a fair reason to replace Collins. And in the meantime, let Collins take some snaps with the first unit and blow the rust off his game. By the coach's own admission, Collin's is clearly better at making his reads and his throws -- and frankly, I've yet to be convinced that he's any less mobile than mr. indecisive.
That is unless, of course, there's another agenda in force here -- besides winning the game.

Agreed 2wks doesn't seem like enough time but Zorn has had 2 yrs. If we get to the red zone Maybe Sherm will call a play for Marko or maybe sherm will run up the middle on the goal line instead of left or maybe run a qb sneak instead of running left. Zorn may have wanted to call plays but that doesn't mean he should and he only did because he's the HC or maybe he slept at a Holiday Inn the night before he accepted the HC job. He wouldn't get out of his on way so they moved him. He kept saying that DT11, MK12 and Sleepy were not up to speed Sherm may see otherwise...Zorn should have hired an experience coordinator play caller from the start and he would not be in this position now...

Here what he hasn't done...
He hasn't been sacked for a safety...
He hasn't ran an offense called by someone who know how to call a game.....
He hasn't looked so bad that Collins should be name starter....
The only reason Zorn put Collins in was to delay being stripped of play calling.... He knew from the 1st day the Sherm was hired to take over play calling..Two allow him to save face they said this extra pair of eyes BS...So if Coolins had lead us back with a good showing he could say it the QB not the play calling...

"Why are we crying a river for Jim Zorn..."
Cause the dude doesn't deserve it. Sure, he's a bad head coach, but no one should be publicly humiliated like this. And for what? So we can go 6-10 instead of 4-12?
It's not his fault we have no line. Not his fault that they hired him for a job he wasn't ready for, maybe never would be ready for. He deserved a shot at being an offensive coordinator. A long but valid shot. Not head coach.
Beyond that, he seems like a really nice guy with no quit in him. Those are admirable traits, even in a bad coach.
Zorn is not the real problem around here, neither is Campbell. Blaming them is like blaming a window for shattering after a rock gets thrown into it.

I'm thinking that Todd Collins looked so rusty as a result of not running the first team in practice. Perhaps he would be in sync more if he had a chance to do that. Guess he won't get it. That strike to Santana Moss when he came in the game woke everybody up. Then, once again soon after...we were who we thought we were...
In other words it doesn't matter who throws the ball or the game (DP - designated playcaller). We still have no line and we still don't have a QB with playground instincts that can make something out of nothing and win a game! I bet a year ago, no one would have traded Jason for Kyle Orton...Kyle is looking good right about now. So Jason fans, your utopia lies with some other team when JC leaves. This is now Colt McCoy or Bradford's team. In fact, Sam Bradford should stop playing now, and avoid any further injury-risk so that he is ready for the start of next season and will fit right in...I mean after all, OU colors are maroon, black and white like ours right...

It's obvious Snyderatto is trying to get Zorn to quit so they won't have to pay him. Whatever we think of Z's ability; no employee should be treated like this. Who do you think would WANT this job next year? Unless Snyderatto is willing to completely change the way he does things, we are going to end up with another underqualified, but hungry, head coach. If you want an example of how things should be run, just look at Denver.
