Jones active while Rinehart was not
Despite signing only last Tuesday, tackle Levi Jones was active on Monday night while 2008 third-round draft pick Chad Rinehart did not dress.
Rinehart initially started in place of right guard Randy Thomas when the veteran was lost for the season with a torn triceps, but was benched for Mike Williams and then Will Montgomery, who started there against the Philadelphia Eagles in Monday's loss.
Jones, who was brought in to provide depth at tackle after the loss of Chris Samuels, who is expected to miss the season with stenosis, dressed, as did undrafted rookie Edwin Williams.
"When I signed I knew they was lacking depth along the O-line especially at tackle so I mean I considered [being active so soon]," Jones said. "I mean I didn't know for sure I didn't know what was going on, but they came calling and I was ready to go."
Despite his short amount of time with the team and his lack of familiarity with the roster, Jones said he felt comfortable with his knowledge of the playbook and was ready to play if he had been called upon.
"I felt good, I got some good work this week, I was on the scout team so I was going against Andre Carter and Orakpo," Jones said. Carter's "got a good mix of speed and power, Orakpo's got a lot of speed and some power, too, so I felt like I got some good NFL looks this week."
