Kareem Moore hopes to handle more extended duty this week

Kareem Moore played only the second half at free safety at Chicago a week ago but could be ready to handle a full load this week.

Moore underwent surgery on his knee in August, and coaches wanted him to take it easy on the knee. While Moore said handling only half the workload last week was beneficial, it still wasn't easy to watch from the sidelines.

"It's kind of frustrating," Moore said. "You know, you just want to be there to help the team. Reed [Doughty], he played good. When I got there, I just tried to make sure I did the same."

Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett reiterated this week that Moore is still the team's starting free safety. But coaches are comfortable rotating in reserves Doughty and Chris Horton.

"I think Reed and Chris are good enough to go in and play and us to win games," Haslett said. "That's not an issue it's no big deal.  It's just we are trying to get him through the bye week and get him healthy."

Moore was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday and participated in Friday's walk-through. If coaches change gears and decide to rest his knee again, they're apparently comfortable with the players behind him.

"We were actually going to put Chris [Horton] in the game last week in the middle of the game," Haslett said. "The issue I have a little bit with Chris is nothing major; I just haven't seen a lot of him because he was hurt in the offseason and training camp. He wasn't coming around a bit. I would feel comfortable playing Chris."

WTF! No Haynesworth threads yet? I'm sending an email.

I got a feeling the old bootlegs will be back in the gameplan to avoid Suh because Rabach and Lichenstick damn sure won't do anything to slow him down. Hopefully Stafford show plenty of rust and the defense won't make him look like an all pro.

Let's not be rash. It could be that the Mayor stepped out for Friday afternoon martinis and he is late getting back to his desk.

More likely donuts, chili cheese fries, and stupid pills.

Moore had better get his knee right fast. I don't want to see Doughty dropping back in to pass coverage at all. It's just too terrifying to think about ol' sloth foot trying to cover Pettigrew.

You're right. How else could he keep up with Haynesworth?

Moore has been pretty bad at run support, but the other two can't cover. I guess it's pick your poison. Definitely a hole that needs to be filled for next year.

No, we'll just pick team captains and they can pick their teams 1 at a time. Reid will be the fat kid that always gets picked last, then he'll cry and go home!

Good idea...if we're captains...I'm picking my new friend Smokey the Bear first...hope to get hessone in one of the later rounds...and gonna try and get your buddy beep too...I love McDonalds french fries!

I think Moore will come around. They really liked him coming out of training camp, but you have to remember that this year is his first time starting. This knee problem is also setting him back a bit.

So Moore only played the 2nd half at FS --

First Half Bears Offense
84 Yards
0 Touchdowns
0 Turnovers

Second Half Bears Offense
228 Yards
1 Touchdown
6 Turnovers

Not sure what to make of this, if anything.

I like Dough-boy, but he's no Moore. It'll be nice to reverse the rolls there.

Let Reed spell Karheem.

You don't want me on your team. I don't play well with others.

I think most of his issues were technique anyway so it's something that can be improved through hard work. Reed Doughty ain't gettin any faster no matter how hard he practices.

Also, don't forget he missed the majority of preseason and training camp. Missing tackling and pursuit drills is probably what's setting him back now.

He's our guy he'll be fine.

I can see him maybe coming around. It's true that he has been limited so far. Even if Moore pans out, they need another true Free Safety next year for depth.
