Landry Says He'll Start Sept. 4

Despite sitting out the preseason because of a strained left hamstring, free safety LaRon Landry plans to start in the season opener Sept. 4 against the New York Giants at Giants Stadium, Jason Reid reports.

"Oh, yeah, definitely," Landry said. "That's what I'm working on right now, just getting ready for the opener."

After only doing rehab and individual work for weeks, Landry, whose injury occurred during drills early in training camp, resumed working with the defense Monday. Although the Redskins would only permit Landry to participate in a couple of reps before taking breaks, he was pleased about his increased workload.

Landry's hamstring still has not healed enough for the Redskins to clear him to play in tomorrow's final preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at FedEx Field, he said, but Landry is confident he will be ready when the Redskins and Giants kick off the NFL's regular season in a nationally televised game.

"That's the only thing I'm working on now," Landry said. "I'm back going through practice as if I was playing in the preseason and I'm not playing. I'm trying to get the mental reps and the physical reps to get my footing down. I'm trying to get down everything I need to do to get ready for the opener.

"I didn't want to prolong this. I didn't want to come out for the first time Sunday or Monday, or whenever our first practice for the Giants is, and try to give it everything. I want to test it out right now. I want to prepare myself for how it's going to feel."

The injury has healed a lot in the past week and "the hamstring feels good," Landry said, "but it's still kind of a mental thing because I know how it felt when I injured it.

"I'm going to keep going back out there, that's what I have to do, but I don't want to push it to the limit and think I'm going to re-injure it. I think it's strong enough but I need to get over that mental phase. I'm going to try to play."

"Bentley is 28 ... Hell let him come out and take the physical I don't think you can give him more than the league minimum (which is why he wanted to be released from cleveland)"

Posted by: trailblazer302 | August 26, 2008 12:41 PM

My understanding is that Bentley is healthy (enough) and ready to play, but that like Culpepper, he's looking for a team that is looking for a starter. Like the circumstances that brought Kendall and Taylor to the Skins, both Culpepper and Bentley will find starting jobs before the season is over. The Browns cut Bentley because they figured out they had some chemistry along the O-line and didn't want to push out Fraley, their current center.

I don't want LaRon to re-injure his hammy either...however...isn't this exactly what the preseason is for?

He gets out there runs around for 10-12 plays, sees that he can do all the things he can do, get his confiedence back, and is good to go.

Instead, he walks into the lion's den on next Thursday unsure and unconfident about his health.......dunno methinks this may turn out to be a bit worse then is being let on.

Did anyone ever do any of the intergoogletubesearches to figure out what the "hamstring surgery" is? The one that Jerry Rice had. What do they do in that surgery? Hamstrings in professional football players seem to have become like ankle bones in thoroughbreds ... though ballers with bad hammies do better in the end than horses with bad ankle bones (see Barbaro and the other one this year).

Zebra, I couldn't post either at that time, also losable type.

I'm glad the defensive starters aren't playing on Thurs. I thought their poor showing was all mental b/c of how they were competitive before Taylor's injury, and opened the floodgates afterwards. It was like the injury put tons of nails in the defense's confidence tires. The offense was simply horrible due to the disgusting OL. I'm genuinely hoping that one of the rooks or other backups can mature sufficiently to put Jansen on the sidelines in the next few weeks. I also think having their leader back will make the OL much better this week. I'm just praying Bugel mentors one of his understudies for when he has another family emergency/retires/etc.

On another note, school started so I'm busy taking 15 graduate credits (most only take 9): molecular biology, biostatistics, toxicology, epidemiology, and environmental health science research methods. It shouldn't be too horrific though because I've had molecular biology and biostat before, EHS research methods I already know, and to some degree I know quite a bit about epi and tox (understand the concepts of both, but haven't been introduced to epi's special terminology).

I thought it was covered by fair use as long as you attribute the writing to the proper author/publisher.

I see no difference between copying an part or all of an article for a high school paper and copying an part or all of an article for a blog. As long as you cite the original author and where you get it from, you should be fine.

Tekman,

Copyrights mean different things depending on the intellectual property. I'm not expert on the subject as IP lawyer is way above my pay grade but the internet is page/hit driven and I believe the article in question was for subsciption use only. You infringe on a copyright when you inhibit their ability to profit from their creation.

Not to mention that a written media outlet such as the post will of course be more sensitive to such issues considering the business they are in.
