Landry Still Absent (Updated)

The first of this week's organized team activities is underway with LaRon Landry still absent. There's also no sign of Anthony Montgomery, Cody Glenn or James Thrash at the moment. Albert Haynesworth is not present, but that most likely is in connection with a court date in Tennessee in connection with misdemeanor traffic charges.
Dan Steinberg is on the scene as well and reports that Mike Williams hurt his knee in practice, but should be fine, according to Jim Zorn. "It's a lot of beef to put on the ground so suddenly." And rookie LB Cody Glenn missed his flight.

From Profootballweekly

Redskins S LaRon Landry isn’t answering head coach Jim Zorn’s voice mails or text messages and has stayed home throughout the current workout sessions — the only significant absence on the team now that London Fletcher and Mike Sellers have returned to work. We hear that Landry is not a training-camp holdout threat, and a source close to Landry told PFW that the safety is working out as often as three times a day and is fully into an intense regimen that he hopes will keep him healthy after a 2008 season in which he was banged up for most of the year

In any case, LL is still a little too wet behind the ears to be pulling this kind of thing...IMO.

Posted by: _Stumped_ | June 8, 2009 1:29 PM | Report abuse

...beef on the ground.

That's exactly what this team needs.

Posted by: _Stumped_ | June 8, 2009 1:30 PM | Report abuse

Or, beef in the air, if you are referring to the rookie who missed his flight

Posted by: JohnDinHouston | June 8, 2009 1:35 PM | Report abuse

Cody Glenn missed his flight? I'm guessing its because his ALARM CLOCK didn't go off. Seriously, what in the world is he doing that he would miss a flight?

Not sure what's up with Montgomery, though. Seems like a guy who should be loving things about now

Colt was on WJFK last week and said that he saw La Ron working out in a Gym by his home and La Ron was gonna be fine.

I think a lot of us hope for the best with the really big fella, but realistically, Williams is a long shot

Posted by: zcezcest1 | June 8, 2009 1:40 PM | Report abuse

I can't believe they're going to trade Landry....ugh that is so frustrating.....

Posted by: BeantownGreg1 | June 8, 2009 1:42 PM | Report abuse

Is Glenn the same guy who lied about why he was suspended? If so, he's not doing himself any more favors...

Why is Landry a no-show???? Makes no sense.

Posted by: rich20ssu | June 8, 2009 1:44 PM | Report abuse

Landry for A. Pierce, is the only trade I'm taking if I'm the Redskins. Pierce, and Torrence's practice helmet.

Posted by: BeantownGreg1 | June 8, 2009 1:48 PM | Report abuse

LL maybe working out, but he ain't Shawn Springs with 10 years experience in learning the game.

The DBs include a part of 1 year starter in Horton, a 4 year vet in Rogers and a CB who has been here 7 games in Hall. As a unit, they haven't played together that much.

If there is a group on this team that is young, very good, can still improve and NEEDS to mesh in order for this team to be successful, its the DBs. For Landry not to get this is troubling.

dlhaze1 - I don't think JLa broke that one. But I am not one to go back in the files and check too often.....
I remember he said he knew of the 'Deep Cover' story, but didn't have enough credible info to make a story out of it..
I missed alot recently, though....
Posted by: 4thFloor | June 8, 2009 1:14 PM

I’m with ya 4th….I don’t think JLC may have ever truly “broken” anything….but to JohnD’s point, who cares who technically is the first to report on something? Unless you have 30 different PFT type sites open on your browser and continually refresh each one in the hopes to be the first one of your friends to hear about the next big rumor….

I just think it’s pretty funny when the haters come out and question sources and even go as far as accusing him or any other reporters of fabricating stuff, and then it turns out to have been true, a-la Ocho Stinko and Cutler….

Skins and those fine folks at the Virginia lottery are having a presser at the moment. Featured are Cooley and Portis, so, natch, Steinberg is there.

And right tackle and Bog fave Mike Williams left practice early. "He went to the ground one time on a block, and jammed his knee into the ground," Zorn said. "It just was sore. You know, it's a lot of beef to put on the ground so suddenly. We just took him off. I think he's gonna be fine."

That's one way of putting it. lol

I am not worried at all about Dirty Thirty not being there. It's OTA's. If he doesn't show up next month when we go live then call me up until then this isn't a story.

So, I hear that the RI pistons have came up with a award to be given out at the end of the week.

Is this right? I heard that it's being called the 3 L's award.

Loser, Lame, Lacky. Does the blogger have to reflect well in these categories to be considered?

Can we nominate who we'd like to win? If so, I'd like to nominate blogger: TheTruth11

There isn't a blogger who can aptly cover loser, lame, and lacky quite like TheTruth.

My 3 L's go to TheTruth.

To the tune of TI and Justin Timberlake's song "Dead And Gone":

Oh I've been reading RI too long

(too long)

Who will provide me with my 'skins info

Now that Jasno has moved on -- moved on

From ESPN NFL "Rumors"
Is Landry trade bait?

LaRon Landry, the sixth overall draft pick in 2007, has some folks in Washington upset, as he has skipped the majority of OTAs for the Washington Redskins. Safeties coach Steve Jackson remarked to the Washington Examiner that he was "disappointed" in Landry's no-shows, and head coach Jim Zorn was quoted by The Washington Post's Redskins Insider blog as saying that he thinks Landry's non-attendance is "disappointing to his teammates as well."

It's uncertain whether taking the fatherly stance of "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed" will work with Landry, a potential star player who is allegedly working out in Arizona this offseason. So far it's just been Jackson announcing his disappointment and Zorn indicating that he thinks the other players are disappointed, a far cry from being publicly called out by one of the veterans on the roster.

In spite of this, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk thinks Landry could be angling to be traded, and has heard "suggestions" that there could be a more substantial issue with Landry's non-attendance at voluntary sessions during both preseasons of his NFL career.

As for Skins secondary coach Jerry Gray, he'd rather Landry stick around, telling the Examiner, "LaRon can become an elite safety. He has the tools."

the only time i missed aflight is because my wife wasn't ready on time. as long as Landry is in new york for the giants game, i don't care.

Posted by: pabrian2003 | June 8, 2009 3:35 PM | Report abuse

how does this mean he is trade bait? We would have to be nuts to trade him. I'm thinking he'll be there when it counts

I just watched film of practice and Landry was practicing. Perhaps if the WP crew tried using their eyes instead of the no name sources, they would report a little more accurately.

And Cody did not miss his was canceled and he had no other options.

News? News? ...What's that? --WP sports reporter

I take back what I just posted RE Landry. Apparently, they were showing old video while talking about today's OTAs. Can't trust anyone these days....

This is the second straight year Landry has been AWOL from summer activities. If he would have come in last training camp and been the beast he should be, I wouldn't have a problem with it.
Instead, he missed last summer then he missed most of training camp with a "hammy" issue, although he could race CP for fun.
Then because of his missed work he was embarassed on National TV by Brandon Jacobs who bowled him over like a duck pin.
Bottom line, when you are there all summer and training camp, it shows up in the games and when you are not there, that shows up too.
I really like Landry and hope he gets it together, but he is seeming more like Roy Williams than Adrian Wilson and ask yourself who you would want on your team!

maybe LL is just waiting until his drug use can not be detected when they test him.
