Carlos Rogers, LaRon Landry will not play vs. Titans

By Jason Reid

The Redskins' secondary will be without two starters against the Tennessee Titans as cornerback Carlos Rogers and strong safety LaRon Landry did not accompany the team on the trip, two people familiar with the situation said Saturday.

Rogers (hamstring) and Landry (Achilles' tendon) will sit out Sunday's game at LP Field because of injuries that slowed them in practice throughout the week. Safety Reed Doughty is expected to take Landry's place with the first-team defense.

It is unclear who will start at cornerback opposite DeAngelo Hall. But in a somewhat surprising move, second-year cornerback Kevin Barnes is expected to play a bigger role, a person familiar with the plan said. After being active in four games his rookie season, the former Maryland standout has been active in three games this season.

Cornerback Byron Westbrook, a standout on special teams, has more experience than Barnes, and nickel cornerback Phillip Buchanon has started many games during his nine-year career. But defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, Redskins employees say, is interested in evaluating Barnes, who has impressed him at times during practice since the offseason.

Ouch, this will hurt. Should be fun up here during the game.

Will be nice to see what some of these young guys can do - TA, KB and more BB on O since we already know what he can do in the kicking game.

Be nice to see James as well.

With or without them, they will lose.

I was already concerned about the Defense but I am more concerned over Landry missing than Rogers

Posted by: PardenMiSwage | November 20, 2010 7:39 PM | Report abuse

Most teams will play the young guys because they want to develope the future of the team. The skins are being FORCE to play the young players, which is a reflection of the "young players" slow development over the years.

Although somewhat true, I don't care why they are playing them, as long as they are playing them. The guys that have been out there haven't shown a whole lot. It's time for guys like Barnes and Austin to get a shot.

Speedy new rooks, missing DBs, Chris Johnson.... all signs point to a high-scoring shootout.

Unfortunately, we've won low-scoring scrums and not the high scoring affairs.

The young'uns are definitely going to have to step up tomorrow. We're going to see some young guys (OL, WR, DBs) auditioning for NFL jobs tomorrow.

I'm definately all for letting the young guys play. At this point, the chances of making the playoffs are mighty slim. It's time now to take a look at guys like Austin, Banks, Barnes, and J. Davis and see if there is a chance that they can be the future of the team. If they shine, that's one less thing to worry about in the offseason. If not, it's better to know sooner so the front office can better chart a course for next year.

The only shot they have is to harass Vince Young into turnovers and score early to put Tennesse on it's heels i don't see that happening i'll be watching Jason Campbell and the Raiders against the Steelers. I don't think i've disliked any Redskin coach as much as i dislike Mike Shannahan and his son but the real culprit is Dan Synder who has basically ruined this franchise, THEY WILL NEVER WIN ANYTHING AS LONG AS SYNDER OWNS THIS TEAM!

Can the Titans drop a 60burger on us or will they top out at 59? How many runs over 30 yards will C. Johnson have? Can the Redskin's offense keep up with the Titans? Who will cover Randy Moss? Will Haney play his ass off or will he rest it? Too many questions but the one question that may be answered already is who wins this one?

When will Shanahan get his next four victories? Will he even get the chance?

For some unknown reason I think skins will pull this one off and win. Don't ask me why. Just a hunch. Cuz it totally looks like the coaching staff is waving a white flag but there is a lot of pride on this team. So we shall see.

I don't think Lickenthedicken is going anywhere.

Shanahan drafted him in the 4th round in 2008, and he played all 16 games for the Broncs.

He was released and bounced around in 2009 before Shanny brought him back here and is starting him again.

Shanahan obviously sees something in him, and right now he's beating Dock out of his starting Guard position even though Lickendude is a Center.

Who knows? Maybe McNabb got benched for complaining about Lickenturnstile's blocking.... but Shanny obviously likes him, and wants him to start.

The skins are as hopeless as I've seen them ever. They are old, their record is who they are (6 wins maybe this year), their coach is old, their draft picks cupboard is bare. This coaching regime will last about 2 years maybe 3 till another restart. It will be a least 5 years out when we can get a contender - a team destined for the playoffs again from week one - that's if they play their cards right. But we keep repeating the same thing over and over expecting different results. Crap, Norv with all his flaws finally got it right after YEARS and richie rich blew that up. Not saying norv was the ultimate answer but i will say shotty would have had this team turned around and in year 3 would have been a perennial playoff team. Which is a heck of alot better than what we're stuck with.

I'm glad that YOU can come to that conclusion after 9 games. Me? I'll wait at least another season. People like YOU are the reason this team has been as bad as they have been. No patience. Even after, in the same paragraph, you attempt to preach patience you aren't willing to give THIS coach a chance. Why would we think you would want to give ANY coach a chance? Your hindsight is 20-20 but your vision is blind.

As for reed, well we know what he brings. I'm just looking for serviceable and hope we'll be ok. If we can stop CJ from completely going off, there's a chance.

This game is big, considering giants and eagles both lost to tenn. Would be a great pick up of a game in the standings.

Yeah, I don't automatically count us out, either. Even with Landry and Rogers out. I like going with the youts, too. It's about time, I'd say.

Let's start throwing these youngins in and see what happens. I still want to see what our rookie Center can do. Is Will Montgomery any better than he was? We gow'na find out!

Let's hope Doughty plays well (always in position to NOT make a play), Barnes makes us hope Rogers stays out, and Randy Moss doesn't know the offense yet.

I look for our D to make a statement. Statement being: "Hey, MFers, we don't F'king SUCK. GOT IT?"

Hopefully that will be enough.

(But, yeah, I'll be checking in on the Raiderskins, too. They're pretty fun to watch. It certainly doesn't hurt as bad when they lose and when they win, you're just shocked. Try it. It's really not bad. Who knew Rock Cartwright was a closet kick blocker for the last decade?!)

Hopefully the Titans will use schemes that will allow Haslett to use the 3-4 effectively.

The players make the defensive scheme work, not what the offense presents.

The titans feature excellent offensive/defensive line play.

A healthy TENN Titans team is one of the better teams in the league with no question.

V Young is playing hurt, K Collins is hurt, and the very good Kenny Britt is not playing either.

R Moss is a shell of what he used to be.

The titans do have a decent tight end to worry about in Bo Scaife.

Chris Johnson will put on a dominating performance.

We see him gettin' 150+ today against a redskin front-7 that just doesn't play sound football technique against the run--no matter the scheme.

The outcome?: We can win this game, plain and simple.

Redskins 28

Titans 17

The storyline will be that the 'proud' veteran redskin team bounces back from the MNF beatdown to save face on the Volunteer State.

Landry and Rogers weren't hurt that badly
that they couldn't practice last week and play today; they were both disciplined for
their MNF play and lack of character. Our
Coach is making a point to the rest of the
team. A point, and a wake-up call, that needed to be made too. Glad that they both didn't travel with the rest of the team too (very telling that).

Our Coach is making a point to the rest of the team.

I thought that's what the summertime conditioning drill thingy and the not-playing-even-though-your're-returning-from- a-funeral with AH was about--making a point to the team.

Plus: given the recent national tv 59 point spanking, any coach would cross a line with his team if he went all high-handed and moral on it while it licks its wounds.

Maybe the players are just hurt, and we, spending abit too much time reading between the lines.

Not that that's a bad thing.

Thank you for your expert opinion, Dr. Deployed. Can we assume you've examined them personally before you offered your medical assessment?

I think Redskins Insider must be home to the best doctors in America. Some have examined Brandon Banks and pronounced that he was not fit to play last Monday, and now Dr. Fan has examined Rodgers and Landry and pronounced them fit to play today. If they play, they're not fit. If they don't play they are fit.

Redskins will have 3 RBs active today: Portis, Keiland WIlliams, and Chad Simpson. Anderson Russell will start at Safety in place of Landry. Wow, what happened to Reed Doughty?

"This team is fundamentally flawed. Wrong scheme, wrong personnel, wrong coaches, wrong owner."

Pot calling the kettle black?

This mentality is what makes the Redskins a fundamentally flawed team.

The scheme is fine, the coaches are fine, the owner (*gasp*) is fine, the personnel is flawed. That's expected. We were a 4-12 team transitioning to a new offense and defense merely 9 months ago.

Have some patience people. Rome was not built in a day.

Redskins @ Titans Pros/Cons List
from HogsHaven

Pro: Titans are 2nd worst passing team in NFL.

Cons: LaRon Landry and Carlos Rogers did not make the trip to Nashville. Kevin Barnes will see some action.

Pro: Titans ranks 31st in Time of Possession 26:05 (WAS 27th 28:24)

Con: Redskins defense ranks 32nd in NFL giving up 5.0 yards a carry.

Pro: Titans are 6th most penalized offense in NFL (WAS #10) and 2nd most penalized defense in NFL (WAS #9)

Con: Redskins defense ranks 32nd in rushes 40+ yards. Titans tied for first rushing 40+ with 4.

Pro: Titans pass defense ranked 25th.

Con: Redskins are coming off short week. Were off on Tuesday and did not practice in pads on Wednesday to further help players recover.

Pro: Center Eugene Amano is a weak link. The Eagles defenders were consistently pushing him backwards. This is a good game to let Haynesworth loose every play.

Con:Titans rank 3rd in NFL with 27 sacks, and with our OLine, that's a big problem.

Pro: Brandon Banks will see some looks on the offense. Expect screens and plays that can get him ball in space (ie- not the middle of the field).

Con: Titans 12-0 their last 12 games vs NFC. Already swept the other 3 NFC East teams this year.

Con: Roydell Williams is now ahead of Galloway on the depth chart. I list this as a con because they both suck equally.

Redskins are giving up a 28th ranked 25 sacks. Artis Hicks may not play. Will Montgomery would start in place.

LaRon Landry and Carlos Rogers did not make the trip to Nashville. Kevin Barnes will see some action.
