LaRon Landry, Carlos Rogers inactive again

By Jason Reid

Listed as inactive again Sunday, strong safety LaRon Landry and cornerback Carlos Rogers could be headed to the season-ending injured reserve list soon.

Landry, sidelined by an Achilles' tendon injury, has not played since the Week 10 blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The fourth-year player sat out practice during the week as the Redskins prepared to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at FedEx Field.

Slowed by a hamstring injury, Rogers missed the Week 11 victory over the Tennessee Titans. In his return to the lineup the following week against the Minnesota Vikings, Rogers injured his other hamstring. He also sat out last week's blowout loss to the New York Giants.

The Redskins do not expect to make the playoffs this season, so it does not seem to make sense for Landry and Rogers to return. Landry is having a Pro Bowl-caliber year and Rogers, despite his ongoing inability to produce interceptions, has been strong in coverage.

It appears that Coach Mike Shanahan would view Landry and Rogers as players who could help the team in the future. If the former No. 1 draft picks went on season-ending injured reserve during the week, they would miss the final three games against the Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars and Giants.

Phillip Buchanon will start in place of Rogers at cornerback and Reed Doughty will replace Landry at safety.

On Sunday, the Redskins also listed rookie wide receiver Terrence Austin as inactive. Austin is among the players Shanahan is expected to look at closely as he tries to determine who should return in 2011 and beyond.

Running back Andre Brown, offensive lineman Erik Cook, (who was signed Saturday from the practice squad), guard Derrick Dockery and defensive lineman Jeremy Jarmon also are inactive. Again, the team listed John Beck as the third quarterback.

Truth be told, I'd druther see John Beck given a shot as we all know what Rex G is and is not.

John Beck as had some playing time in the league, so let's see if he can manage an offense that been lackluster all season.

And again: I've been off the McNabb bandwagon since week 3, and it appears the Shanahans have joined me in assessing Donnie McNabb as a literally finished product.

McNabb's best stretch was right after he signed his extension--and that was a short stretch.

We'll be drafting our quarterback of the future next Spring--maybe he'll be the guy who got that big trophy last night.

Not surprised after that two turnover stinker last week. I don't think I've ever seen a rookie fumble a ball so badly.

Moe - I watched the CSN pregame show and McLovin's expression standing next to Kyle said it all.

I noticed that last week, every third down both Mc and Cooley looked dejected and lost.

The results were evident.

Posted by: DikShuttle | December 12, 2010 1:01 PM | Report abuse

That fumble was horrific

Posted by: chrislarry | December 12, 2010 1:01 PM | Report abuse

Career high in INTs for Donovan.

Wow - McNabb playin' hopscotch again.

Posted by: DikShuttle | December 12, 2010 1:12 PM | Report abuse

Peeps complain about our playcalling...

TWO 3rd and ones against our TERRIBLE run D and the Bucs throw?

Posted by: Diesel44 | December 12, 2010 1:19 PM | Report abuse

going away with no points not a good sign .......need better red zone production Ala REX ? we are in trouble unless we ride the Torain.

Posted by: ThrowItToMyTeam | December 12, 2010 1:21 PM | Report abuse

I just have to wonder what the he!! is going on in McNabbs brain. Third and short. He drops back, no pressure, Cooley breaks open in the flat. No INT risk. He steps up and throws it in the dirt 4 yards in front of him.

What is he targeting when he throws? Or does his brain just go blank and throws it in a direction?

WTF?

Posted by: edvar | December 12, 2010 1:22 PM | Report abuse

McNabb is in trouble. Can't miss the throw to Cooley. He threw without setting his feet I think. With Grossman splitting reps this past Friday and the game plan looking like run first, ball control passes, he's goota play better or he'll be pulled.

Torain already over 100 in the first quarter.

How many games could we have won with him?

someone contact ellias sports people, when was the last time a RB had 100+ but team scored zero points..

Posted by: chrislarry | December 12, 2010 1:26 PM | Report abuse

Hmm, what up with that McNabb guy, does he really want to Rex thrown into this pass rush. Move them Feet....

Posted by: ThrowItToMyTeam | December 12, 2010 1:27 PM | Report abuse

Really disappointed with Moore this year...but McNabb...really looking like wasted draft choices...dude stopped to drives by himself, though field goal should have been made.

Grossman is a TO machine but McNabb has be awful. I have a feeling we'll see Grossman sooner than later and we'll have this weeks drama.

I think McNabb deserves to be on a short leash, just wish we had a better option on the bench.

Posted by: Diesel44 | December 12, 2010 1:28 PM | Report abuse

sorry 100+ in a quarter...

Why was'nt that intentional grounding ?

Posted by: ThrowItToMyTeam | December 12, 2010 1:30 PM | Report abuse

So it looks like the defense shows up today, but the offense doesn't finish drives.

Perfect set-up for another heartbreaker.

Don't act surprised he's good on a sloppy field. His name is To-RAIN. *(Sorry)

Posted by: fan-o-matic | December 12, 2010 1:33 PM | Report abuse

Skins look good between the 20s. Let's see if they can finish this drive with some points.

May take Diesel's prediction of the D and Banks scoring the only points.

Posted by: TWISI | December 12, 2010 1:44 PM | Report abuse

Gano needs to get cut. I've given him too much slack. Now, it's unacceptable.

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | December 12, 2010 1:44 PM | Report abuse

Looks like the Offense is going to need some big time help scoring from the D and ST.

Posted by: kerzon417 | December 12, 2010 1:44 PM | Report abuse

Played for a FG?

10 misses on the season for Gano.

Grossman will start the 3rd Qtr.

Gano is Gaone.

Posted by: SammyT1 | December 12, 2010 1:46 PM | Report abuse

If the 'Skins ever score a TD, they have to go for two points because Gano is out of it. Did anyone split snaps with Gano this week?

Posted by: beep-beep | December 12, 2010 1:46 PM | Report abuse

HORRIBLE playcalling there...no playaction after they way we have run? F Nepotism.

Posted by: will_ga | December 12, 2010 1:49 PM | Report abuse

Dangello can't make the tackle , but he popped that ball out from behind, Now go for the endzone on the first play to # 13 then run the rest of the game ......

Posted by: ThrowItToMyTeam | December 12, 2010 1:49 PM | Report abuse

F Nepotism.

Posted by: chrislarry | December 12, 2010 1:47 PM

F'ing nepotism would be a form of incest. Legal only in seven southern states.

Posted by: beep-beep | December 12, 2010 1:50 PM | Report abuse

Is there a scarier non tackling sight then to see 23 and 31 trying to combine for a tackle.

Nice play by Hall otherwise Blunt would still be running.

Posted by: Diesel44 | December 12, 2010 1:51 PM | Report abuse

The defense is back playing inspired football. Tampa will play 8 man boxes now. Time for McNabb to step up.

Posted by: TWISI | December 12, 2010 1:51 PM | Report abuse

Now go for the endzone on the first play to # 13 ......

Posted by: ThrowItToMyTeam | December 12, 2010 1:49 PM

Not happening. McNabb would underthrow him.

Posted by: beep-beep | December 12, 2010 1:53 PM | Report abuse

PLAYACTION ON first and goal...sheesh!

Posted by: chrislarry | December 12, 2010 1:54 PM | Report abuse

Kyle needs to call more short passes. Don't give Donovan the opportunity to throw an INT.

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | December 12, 2010 1:54 PM | Report abuse

Wow, Gibbs sitting there watching this.

Is it still the 1st Qtr? Just give the ball to Torain so he has 200+ before half time.

Prevent TB from responding to our 7 points. (Was our extra point almost a miss????)

Posted by: DeployedFan | December 12, 2010 2:03 PM | Report abuse

Is it just me, or is Kyle just not ready for prime time? Granted, McLovin' has had this knock on him for a long time....

Posted by: DikShuttle | December 12, 2010 2:17 PM | Report abuse

if it becomes 4th and goal, go for it

Posted by: kingpenn1 | December 12, 2010 2:18 PM | Report abuse

Gano is ga-gone.

Posted by: tmkelley | December 12, 2010 4:03 PM | Report abuse

Gano didn't lose the game...he wasn't the one who dropped passes on defense that should have been caught...he didn't throw short passes in front of the receivers...

Why didn't the team run the ball in the second half like they did in the first????

When something is working you don't stop until the other team stops you....Kyle Shanahan is not a very good offensive coordinator...
