Redskins sign DB Macho Harris

By Jason Reid

Former Virginia Tech defensive back Macho Harris has signed with the Redskins, a person familiar with the situation said Tuesday.

The Redskins brought in Harris, a fifth-round draft pick of Philadelphia's in 2009, in an effort to bolster a secondary weakened by injuries. Harris fills the roster spot opened Monday when the Redskins assigned rookie safety Anderson Russell to the season-ending injured reserve list.

Russell suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the first quarter of Sunday's 19-16 overtime victory against the Tennessee Titans. Strong safety LaRon Landry (Achilles' tendon) did not accompany the team on the trip and is not expected to play this week against the Minnesota Vikings.

Harris, whom Philadelphia released Sept. 4, played cornerback for four seasons at Virginia Tech, but the Eagles converted him to safety. As a rookie, Harris played in 15 games, starting eight, and was credited with 41 tackles, 38 of them unassisted.

After Philadelphia moved him back to corner during the summer, Harris failed to make the team out of training camp.

Devin Thomas has been cut by the Panthers....poor Devin.

Sorry if someone has already mentioned this...

Holy sh_t J-Reid this is an amazing post I was not aware that the Skins signed Macho Harris.

Great job breaking this story keep up the good work.

OK, I was kidding about the breaking news part.

One thing about the eagles having so many draft picks is that sometimes they have to cut decent players to keep the new young players.

My only concern with Macho is that he was available since Sept and no teams signed him.

True but he isn't costing us anything so if he stinks he will be gone, but if he works out it will be a steal.

Hey DickShuttle-

Laron Landry was in a walking boot today, so he won't be playing on Sunday.

Man that Shanahan fellow is really sending a message by "benching" Landry.

No, Diesel, you're just underestimating what an SOB Shanny can be when you're in his doghouse. He's forcing Landry to wear a walking boot. shanahan insiders say that the next level of punishment is chastity belt.

Devin Thomas to Coach Shanahan: I've learned my lesson coach, I'll never do another video again. I promise to be 30 mins early for all meetings and will not sleep in during meetings. I will study tapes of Jerry Rice and will extra extra hard during practice and I'll stay after practice to be the best WR on the team. When you say jump, I'll say how high. I just want another chance coach.....please!!!

Mebbe I was wrong about this. I can see it now, two cougars, Demi and Courteney, on top of mesa somewhere out West:

Courteney to Demi: Goddamit Demi, quit pawing that 18 yr old boy and come over here and help me with these rabbit ears. I'm trying to tune in the Boise State/Nevada game.

Demi comes over and looks at what Courteney is doing.

Demi to Courteney: You feckin moron. Them rabbit ears is never going to work. You got them off road kill. You have to get them off a live rabbit if you want to watch live TV.

I guess the Panthers just don't want a big-play receiver who can do everything, either.

Seriously, I have a feeling DThomas will eventually mature and cotribute somewhere. He's got all the physical tools, so the problem has to be between his ears.

Devin Thomas needs Josh McDaniels. How he ever got Brandon Lloyd to play like he has this year is amazing.

There is hope for Devin, but who has the time to wait three years for him to "mature".

The following is the first mention of the Macho Harris signing on RI:

Per Rich Campbell on Twitter (and DHall) Redskins have signed Macho Harris

So I stand by my statement that Reid's "a person familiar with the situation" could have been the RI posters that began posting about Harris 2 hours ago.

Brandon Lloyd also comes to mind. he was worse than awful here but look at him now.

You know Dan Reeves coached Horseface and got to the SB 3 Xs but didn't win it. Subsequent, Iron Mike and Horseface won the SB, 2 Xs to be excact. Dan Reeves also coached Dog Killer and got to the playoffs with him but never made it to the SB, much less win it. Subsequent, Pigman and Dog Killer now have a good chance to win a SB and make Reeves the answer to a SB trivia question - "Who coached 2 QBs to the playoffs but never won a SB with them only to have other coaches come along later and win it with them?"

Bad example. Brandon Lloyd had already established himself as a legitimate NFL receiver in San Francisco. Devin Thomas hasn't done diddly on two NFL teams, now in his third season.

Mike Williams over in Seattle is another. Some of these players don't get it until late in their 20s.

To be honest, Vick is another. These guys are great athletes that get by on natural abilities and never really learn how to prepare at the NFL level or learn in their late 20s.

MACHO MACHO Maaaaan...

*repeat*

And on the subject of Devin Thomas... Sure, he can do it. I'm not so sure he really WANTS to.

I'm afraid the guy thinks he's really a "Star," as in "Entertainer," as in "Performer" and "Budding R&B Artist."

Just my guess. It DOES seem to make sense of things, though. I think, if that's his case, he's making a mistake, but who wouldn't trade 2 a days in August for sipping champagne, talking about the next video with Beyonce?

I mean, different strokes.

Oh those shocking losses happen all the time. Ask Michigan, who lost to Little Sisters of the Poor last year. But you're right, they are certainly down years for those two conferences. The Big East particularly has been raided for coaches--which explains it somewhat.

The reason people dont' watch the west is the time diff. The PAC plays soem pretty good ball.

Of course, after the Monday night beat down and all the injuries, this by PFT's Rosenthal...I’m picking the Vikings because it’s just wrong for this Redskins team to hit 6-5 and Washington is more banged up than ever.

Rosenthal’s pick: Vikings 22, Redskins 16.

In other words...we're garbage even without the injuries...Hmm

CrimeScene, all of those MWC and WAC teams not named, Nevada, Boise State and TCU are surefire world beaters. Yes, they all have defenses and offense ranked in the bottom 50 in the nation. Add to that 2 of those teams that BSU, Nevada, and TCU get to beat up on get to stay in ESPN bottom ten for the entire year. (New Mexico and New Mexico State), but yes give Boise State, TCU and Nevada the right get beat by 40 against Oregon, Auburn, and LSU.
