Late Scratches

Safety Reed Doughty, a 2006 draft pick battling for a roster spot, was a late scratch after having to undergo tests for a dilated pupil.

Cornerback Ade Jimoh practiced all week but missed the game with an illness.

Rreceiver James Thrash, who practiced as well, was out with an abdominal strain.

Also, looks like Joe Salave'a will start this game after Kedric Golston started the last one. Coaches want to get a look at Big Joe and Cornelius Griffin together again with both healthy.

Oh, and if you only looked at the crowd here you'd think this was a home game for the Steelers. Lot of black and yellow all over the place.

Thrash as a scratch? Doesn't help sort out the #2 receiver, does it?

dilated pupil.

What could have caused that?

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 7:49 PM | Report abuse

Yeah right like I need help!!!!

No worries she has been dreading the skins crocs all summer

Posted by: chris larry | August 18, 2007 7:50 PM | Report abuse

Dialated Pupil? Given Doughty's chances of making the team, I can understand his missing the game to try out a rap group.

Posted by: LH | August 18, 2007 7:51 PM | Report abuse

For good reason CL. Tell here I have the hammer if she needs it. lol

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 7:51 PM | Report abuse

On the other hand, we'll be here for you if it doesn't work out. And she and I and hit the bars on Ladies' Night!

I've caught typoitis.

From a thread or two ago...Wilbon was standing by to write Vick Friday, so he couldn't do the Skins column. Maybe this week.

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 7:54 PM | Report abuse

Pittsburgh fans always travel well....but then why don't they go to their own home games????

Posted by: chris larry | August 18, 2007 7:57 PM | Report abuse

Sam Huff is incomprehensible. His ramblings are annoying. Who came up with the bright idea that ex-athletes are somehow qualified to announce games?

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | August 18, 2007 7:58 PM | Report abuse

They have the world's worst mascot now, new this season: Steely McBeam. Kornheiser sez it sounds like a porn name.

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 7:59 PM | Report abuse

Damn, game is blacked out on Fox Sports Pittsburgh as well.

Posted by: P Diddy | August 18, 2007 8:06 PM | Report abuse

L. Betts behind left guard on the first play....stuffed.

UGH is this game ever kicking off!

Posted by: chris larry | August 18, 2007 8:10 PM | Report abuse

Anyone know if you can listen to the game online?

Posted by: Dante | August 18, 2007 8:10 PM | Report abuse

Maybe they can sign Steely when he becomes a free agent.

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 8:10 PM | Report abuse

Go to redskins.com and follow the links for Triple X ESPN Radio.

Posted by: P Diddy | August 18, 2007 8:11 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | August 18, 2007 8:11 PM | Report abuse

OK JC take a deep breath and slow it down.

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 8:11 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 8:13 PM | Report abuse

CL...there is about a 2 minute delay from the radio broadcast to the real game, which I am following live on NFL.com.

Posted by: gatorskinz2000 | August 18, 2007 8:14 PM | Report abuse

Fortunately, I can remember because I'm supersmart, but if I get to BMGO, it's gonna be tough to keep track.

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 8:15 PM | Report abuse

Are you freakin' kidding me, I get setup at the bar and am even trying to make do with the Pittsburgh pre-game show and then as the Chargers v. Rams; Seahawks vs. Packers come on I get a blank screen...

What's the deal? I think that all preseason games should be televised to spots that have every sports package under the sun. What is the sense of blacking them out...

Oh, well at least PDiddy and I are in the same boat.

And are you serious second snap from the line and JC fumbles...ARGH!!!

The only thing worse about seeing that type of offense is not seeing it...

Posted by: Stumptown Chris | August 18, 2007 8:15 PM | Report abuse

Listening now thanks P Diddy

Posted by: Dante | August 18, 2007 8:16 PM | Report abuse

Remember I told you guys last year that JC is a baller. Man I am loving this.

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 8:16 PM | Report abuse

But they're driving nicely, Stumptown. It's going to be okay. Besides, that boat you're on with Diddy, it's a yacht.

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 8:17 PM | Report abuse

Stumptown, I'm dying on the inside without my live 'Skins fix. I have to either watch Norv or Magnum PI. Oh, the horror...

Posted by: P Diddy | August 18, 2007 8:17 PM | Report abuse

Seems that the line is doing a good job

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 8:17 PM | Report abuse

Chris,

He followed it immediately with a pass for a 1st down.

They're actually moving the ball a little bit, and the line looks better (so far, anyway) than they did at this point last week.

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | August 18, 2007 8:19 PM | Report abuse

Thanks JustMe. I was about to ask Cyn Cyty how they look.

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 8:20 PM | Report abuse

JC was sacked on third down...back in the shotgun....Steelers blitzed. But Frost punted to the 8.

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 8:21 PM | Report abuse

All things considered not a horrible opening drive...

Posted by: chris larry | August 18, 2007 8:21 PM | Report abuse

Cyn did the bring the house on the last play or the line just broke down?

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 8:21 PM | Report abuse

Sack....punt...shank. (lucky roll).

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | August 18, 2007 8:21 PM | Report abuse

Steelers @ 20 1st down

Posted by: gatorskinz2000 | August 18, 2007 8:22 PM | Report abuse

Well, two things...

1. Pre-season games are the exclusive broadcast rights of local television stations (unless they're one of the handful of nationally televised games). I do not understand why the local stations won't let their games be broadcast on DirecTV, but I'll bet there's either a really stupid reason or an FCC rule behind it. Pre-season games are a big revenue soruce for local stations.

2. Regular season games will never be broadcast over the Internets domestically so long as DirecTV has exclusive rights for NFL Sunday Ticket. DirecTV's biggest subscriber bump always occurs in August and September, thanks to the NFL.

PDiddy:

Would you please bring the Cristal back to the stern of the boat? Thanks!

Posted by: Stumptown Chris | August 18, 2007 8:24 PM | Report abuse

OK Reaper time to bring the wood. Is L2 in the starting line up?

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 8:24 PM | Report abuse

I know Diddy, but what I don't understand is why DirectTV has such a strangle hold on NFL games. You would think the NFL would want more latitude in broadcasting options.

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | August 18, 2007 8:24 PM | Report abuse

F Direct TV...

Posted by: chris larry | August 18, 2007 8:25 PM | Report abuse

Steelers gotta punt

Posted by: gatorskinz2000 | August 18, 2007 8:25 PM | Report abuse

Rogers nearly intercepted Rogers; on the next play, a pass, Springs snuffed it after about a three-yard gain. Punt.

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 8:25 PM | Report abuse

Sure thing. Shall I bring the Beluga Caviar as well? We're grilling up some prawns on this end.

Posted by: P Diddy | August 18, 2007 8:26 PM | Report abuse

Rogers on a tackle for a lost. Remember you heard it from my mouth. Rogers will have a good year.

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 8:26 PM | Report abuse

You can have the Cristal, BTW. I'm a Dom guy. :-)

Posted by: P Diddy | August 18, 2007 8:27 PM | Report abuse

Springs and Rogers seem to be playing solid from what I am hearing.

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | August 18, 2007 8:27 PM | Report abuse

The D looks kinda good. I'm starting to feel better about this team.

Posted by: JustMe | August 18, 2007 8:27 PM | Report abuse

Skins 1st and 10 on the 21. Betts for 3.

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 8:28 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: gatorskinz2000 | August 18, 2007 8:29 PM | Report abuse

Cyn City, any reason why C. Griffin out again?

Posted by: chris larry | August 18, 2007 8:29 PM | Report abuse

Don't post so quick Cyn. We have a delay on the net. I guess it's time for to order my L2 jersey. We got to get the run game going.

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 8:29 PM | Report abuse

Corners are tackling and around receivers. D liine actually get up field and put Rothlisberger on the ground.

O-line, schmo line. Skins are going 10-6. D is going to win at least two games.

Posted by: LH | August 18, 2007 8:29 PM | Report abuse

3rd & 5. Pitt blitzed a linebacker from the edge. Campbell got the ball to Cooley for a 1st donw.

Posted by: JustMe | August 18, 2007 8:29 PM | Report abuse

missed a play...sheesh. second and five. cooley catches a pass for the first down...looks like it went for six. betts carries to the 35.
this is like covering a high school game and doing my own play-by-play.

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 8:30 PM | Report abuse

BTW, the reason DirecTV has exclusivity with the NFL? They pay the NFL $700M annually. The first Sunday Ticket contract way back when was $120M annually.

Further research into DirecTV LLC's SEC filings will show you why $700M is chump change to DirecTV given how much revenue the Sunday Ticket subscriber generates for the business.

Posted by: P Diddy | August 18, 2007 8:30 PM | Report abuse

the delay is killin me

Posted by: chris larry | August 18, 2007 8:30 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: chris larry | August 18, 2007 8:33 PM | Report abuse

This looked bad, but he is walking off the field. Polamalu was blitzing, hit him low and bent him backward....flag on the play.
JC is walking, but limping a little.
Collins in.

NooooooO!!!!! OMG Noooooo!!!

*crying*

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | August 18, 2007 8:34 PM | Report abuse

Todd Collins is in the game.

JC was just getting into a really good rhythm. He had hit Cooley in the middle of the field for another 1st down.

Posted by: JustMe | August 18, 2007 8:34 PM | Report abuse

Damn it all to heck!!!!!!! He was just starting to rev!

I hope this is nothing

Posted by: chris larry | August 18, 2007 8:35 PM | Report abuse

Alright, I can't take this anymore: JC fumbles, JC gets taken down...

I can't ride the roller coaster, which is the Skins, with blinders on--not that seeing it makes that big of a difference.

So for that reason I'm signing off...

over and out.

Posted by: Stumptown Chris | August 18, 2007 8:35 PM | Report abuse

See this is what happens when you start some shmuck on the o-line, your QB goes down.

Heyer sucks.

I blame the coaches on this one, not the Steeler player.

Posted by: Ray | August 18, 2007 8:35 PM | Report abuse

Is this where we once again cue the argument for how absurd the preseason actually is?

Posted by: P Diddy | August 18, 2007 8:35 PM | Report abuse

I hope he didnt do anything serious to that knee. He still could have tore something.

Cooley rippin it up though

Posted by: gatorskinz2000 | August 18, 2007 8:35 PM | Report abuse

If JC is alright hell with playing him for the rest of pre season. FFFFFFFFFFFFFF. Cyn can I hit someone witht he hammer. FFFFFFFFFFFF

Posted by: jm220 | August 18, 2007 8:36 PM | Report abuse

Collins hit Cooley by the sideline in the w/ Ryan Clark coming on a blitz. Nice play. 1st down.

Then, he follows it w/ a stupid damn pass into traffic.

Posted by: JustMe | August 18, 2007 8:36 PM | Report abuse

He's walking into the locker room now. Theismann's diagnosis is that it might be a sprain.

Posted by: Cindy | August 18, 2007 8:36 PM | Report abuse

Steelers/Chargers: Marc Bulger is an impressive little QB...

Posted by: P Diddy | August 18, 2007 8:36 PM | Report abuse

Any reports on Campbell from Cindy or JLC would be greatly appreciated. Let's stop playing games with our O-Line, huh? I'm listening on internet radio and Sonny, Sam and Larry seemed to think it was a clean enough hit by the Pittsburgh defender. The coaches need to do everything in their power to protect their franchise QB.

Rocky McIntosh is a straight baller. Firing Dale Lindsey was the best thing they could have done or that kid would still be sitting on the bench.

Pittsburgh can't move the ball at all. LOL

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | August 18, 2007 8:50 PM | Report abuse

littery,

I was thinking the same thing. I'd hate to see JC's season end before it can even begin fooling w/ them and this makeshift line. It looks better than it was, but it's not like the end of last season's by any stretch of the imagination.

For those wanting to see skins games online, DirecTV will "broadcast" games online to SundayTicket subscribers with SuperFan package. It is pricey - $350 total, but to me it is worth every penny.
