Key stat is the punting stat -- Frosty's showing the new boy how it's done. Competition's been very, very good for Frosty. Vinny's working the phones, trying to get a 7th round pick for Brooks.

Campbell's pick caused me to flashback to last year. He ggot picked throwingg a very similar route to ARE twice last year, includingg the pick in the final 2 minutes at Dallas Our WRs need to comeback hard to the ball on those patterns.

It's time to cut ties with the thought that Jason Campbell will ever be a successful QB in the NFL.

Posted by: Curzon417 | August 28, 2008 8:32 PM | Report abuse

There should be not QB controversy. JC is not a top tier QB but the team can still be successful if the running game is strong, the QB protects the ball, and the defense plays like the Ravens circa 2000.

stats are a bit skewed. I'm not very worried. starting Oline looked better. not great but better.

I saw running lanes; mason isn't on the same level as CP or Betts (love Mason's heart but its true)

We'll be ok. I'm still saying 8-8.

Devin Thomas is a waste of space if he catches the ball we all feel better.

Posted by: alex35332 | August 28, 2008 8:39 PM | Report abuse

I agree about JC. I usually LOL at people yelling to pull the QB - but we need to do a repeat of Gibbs first season, when he let Ramsey start the season, then yanked him after the first series and handed it to Brunell.

With JC, we're not seeing a guy adjusting to new offenses. We're seeing a pattern.

At least we won't be disappointed this year. We know we will suck. 8-8 would be a miracle.

Other than the fact that the team is still called the Washington Redskins, what attachment do we have to this team?
No Gibbs.
An ownwer and "GM" nobody likes.
No true Mr. Redskin.
No history of glory with any of these players.
The Sean Taylor tribute was last year's run into the playoffs.

So who cares if we suck this year?

Only one Redskin has rushed the ball tonight.

If Mason was a lock, wouldn't you be running someone else, to ensure Mason is healthy for the opener?

I'm afraid Skins might be hoping they get trade offer for Mason rather than have to cut him.

Posted by: RedskinRay1 | August 28, 2008 8:45 PM | Report abuse

Let me preface this post. I read this Blog a lot and I have had season tickets since 1966. I am by no ways a expert, but have seen a lot of football. First post. These are my observations, from tonight and from last season:

Campbell will not be a starting Quarterback in this league this time next year. He has to wind up to make a throw and has a slow release. I am definitely not on the Colt bandwagon, but if you watch him he is ready to release the ball from his shoulder on the fifth drop.
Devin Thomas has no burst speed. Bad draft pick. should have been able to evaluate that before the draft.
Tryon is too small and does not have the burst to get to the ball.
Bugel has gone through something that I hope I never have to or wish on anybody, but someone has to put a fire under the O line. On the first play Samuels almost got pushed back intop campbell again.

ENTER OCHO CINCO
Posted by Mike Florio on August 28, 2008, 8:32 p.m. EDT
We first reported a couple of weeks ago that Bengals receiver Chad Johnson had filed paperwork aimed at legally changing his name to Chad Ocho Cinco.

According to our friends at 790 The Ticket in Miami, it’s now official.

Chad Johnson is Chad Ocho Cinco.

But if that’s the case, his team has yet to get the memo. There’s still a Chad Johnson on the roster — and no one named Ocho Cinco (or, as some might prefer, Asso Holo).

Is Campbell retarded? I still don't think we can get a read on anything from this preseason but the comment about we were focused on playing next week. That is some BS. If that was the case Zorn wouldn't have played them at all. The only thing worse than bad qb play is one that starts to make excuses.

A couple of quotes:

Jason Campbell on the offense’s performance:
“We did not come out like the way we wanted to get started. We need to concentrate on one play at a time and finish drives. What we need to do is find a way to get into a rhythm.”

and on the preseason:
“We had a strong start in the preseason. We just need to get back in that mode. We’re looking forward to next week’s game against the Giants.”

Reed Doughty on being one of two regular starters to open the game and intercepting a pass:
“I was just trying to be a leader out there. I was playing with a lot of younger players. I had a chance for one interception and I missed it, but I was able to make the best out of my second opportunity. I am looking forward to the start of the season next week against the New York Giants.”

The Redskins have made a long string of terrible personnel decisions ever since The Danny bought the team, and there is simply no hiding this fact.

These penalties are bad, too. Mental breakdowns and coaching deficiencies. That has to get cleared up.

What I like about Colt is that he gets rid of the football. JC still hasn't learned to sling it. At least Colt gets rid of it.

And the Redskins don't have a Randy Moss or a Tom Brady. I wouldn't be worried about them. But I am worried about the Redskins because they have an unproven QB and a bunch or lilliputian receivers.

Danny and Vinny are getting exactly what they deserve for the ridiculous way they've mismanaged this franchise. I've been a fan since the early 70's but I hope they go 4-12 this year and every year that Danny owns this team. Anybody with half a brain saw what was going to happen with a QB coach suddenly being promoted to head coach after a joke of a search that everybody with credentials turned down. And Zorn didn't even have a full say in picking his own staff. Did anyone really expect a playoff team, or even a winning team, to come out of crap like that? Not bloody likely. Find yourselves a college team for the next dozen years.

4th in the East, I disagree. Were you talking like that when Snyder brought Gibbs back? Or got G Williams to stick around as DC when supposedly he was getting offers from other teams for HC?

What about the great reviews of our draft?

Saying this is all Snyder's fault is lame.

Campbell's INT was the type of play a ggood WR would have caugght. WRs need to figght for the ball. Cooley dropped another completion. Campbell's uggly line came with a some help from his friends.

This is a very interesting post Al...
A good WR would have caught that by extending his arms. It was a well thrown ball...however, I am starting to have some real doubts about Campbell and I have been an ardent supporter. He does not look like any good QB's in this league. He's thinking too much!!!

Look at Gibbs' record the 2nd time around. He was lost; I mean L-O-S-T. Every exec in the league was saying how opposing teams could tell just what play the offense was going to run by the way they lined up. I am off the Horton bandwagon, if I was ever on it. He got blown up on that running play early in the 3rd. Guy was stumbling, he stopped his momentum, the only thing he has against a bigger guy, and fell off of him like a tissue.

Mix is gone. McMullen Stays. Mason is too small, he always falls after first good contact.

Our o line backups are pretty bad.

Boo, thats all I got. Two bottle of red wine to get through this game and its time for night night...

Zornstar, McNair was a pretty good QB. Where did he come from? Because of a stupid young man mistake Colt could not finish at Colorado. No one is calling for him to start, but he does not look confused like JC does. And Collins has not been impressive this preseason. He is what he is a back up QB.

He was a master motivator the 1st time around; not a chance the 2nd time. He had his moment during the crisis, no doubt. But overall, his second stint was a sad chapter in his career. Don't reconstruct his record just to make yourself feel better about this lousy team. Gibbs 1.0: brilliant. Gibss 2.0: a sad, lost old fart who even sicwidit would discriminate against.

The Skins always do this to new quarterbacks. They get a great young quarterback and bench him for a couple years. When they finally play him, he isn't the same. Run down the list - from Heath Shuller to Jason Campbell and now Colt Brennan (Who I think is a more modern and mobile quarterback.)

I am not sure why they do this... Suffer a down year to allow for experience gained. Most other teams in the NFL play their rookie quarterbacks and suffer through some losses and/or injury.
