Levi Jones and RB signed; Alridge, Mason released

The Redskins have released running backs Anthony Alridge and Marcus Mason and have signed offensive lineman Levi Jones and running back Quinton Ganther.

Both Jones and Ganther were at Redskins Park today working out for coaches and team officials. Both are expected to be at practice tomorrow.

The team also released Glenn Pakulak, who punted in place of Hunter Smith the last two games, and re-signed Renaldo Wynn.

Dear Mrs. Campbell..
your beef is with Boswell, I provided the link and the TD per attempt stats from his article... I dont wish to clip and paste a complete article in the same newspaper it appeared in, when I can just provide a link.

So, with your logic, Boswell is a "hater", too. Opps.. so is Zorn since he benched him. And so is Moss, Kelly, and other WRs for letting him overthrow them repeatedly.. Lots of haters...

JC is in LAST PLACE in TDs per attempt of all active NFL QB's that have 900 or more attempts.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Providing the full stat makes for interesting discussion and provides a quality post. But you know why you don't bother to try and make a better argument. Because your a hater, and you dont actually want to bother with context or anything, you're to busy busting a **** over someone slamming a guy you hate already.

This is what NFL.COM has to say about Ganther:

Running back Quinton Ganther is a downhill runner who packs substantial power in his 5-foot-9 frame. He is versatile enough to contribute as a featured tailback or a fullback. In his first two years with the Titans, he spent the majority of his time on the team’s practice squad (on active roster Sept. 16-30, 2006 and Oct. 20-Nov. 5, 2007). Then, in 2008, he spent his first full season on the club’s 53-man roster, contributing nine carries for 61 yards and six receptions for 43 yards in 13 games. In pre-draft workouts, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds and bench pressed 430 pounds. He was selected with the Titans’ third pick of the seventh round (compensatory selection, 246th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Dude, you need to just accept that you are not smart enough to cut and past quotes from an article. Accept it about your self and move on.

My beef is not even with bashing JC17, the point that Boswell made was a very good one the stat line has some validity. My beef is with a person who is not smart enough to quote Boswell's argument.

Posted by: alex35332 | October 20, 2009 4:35 PM | Report abuse

Not a fan of cutting Alridge either, still think we need a guy with his skill set, outside of moss we have zero speed on offense.

There's no way Levi Jones play worse than Heyer did last week at LT. Too many plays saw the DE fly past Heyer.

My bet is that Heyer is on the bench now and that Mike Williams will stick at RT.

Like I said on the last post, they should have done this about 4 weeks ago. It will probably take Levi 2 to 3 games to get his legs back into game shape.

Too little, too late.

And damn, the front office just can't seem to quit Renaldo Wynn. I could have done without him and kept Mason or Aldridge.

I think they might have been holding out for info on Samuels' condition to take action. Not that they shouldn't have addressed the OL depth in the offseason to begin with.

Absolutely ditto on the first. On the second, I think that RB should be the second pick (after using the first pick on the guy who SHOULD be the best available offensive tackle). I'm saying Skins pick somewhere in btwn the #4 and #8 slot.

After this next Monday night, the season should be a lot less stressful on the players given the pressure of having to win is over ... the playoffs become out of reach after Monday.

[It occured to me that the ONLY redeeming football thing about Sunday was that the Giants got destroyed and that the Eagles lost to OAKLAND. Also, F Dallas.]

Fantastic! Vinny finally got off his butt and did something! I wonder if Snyder had to threaten to bring in "an extra set of eyes" to help him with finding offensive linemen...

I think Sherm Lewis can work with these guys. I don't know if Levi Jones will end up being their starting left tackle but I suspect he would be an upgrade after he learns the system and builds rapport with Dockery. The one bad thing about this signing is this almost certainly means that Samuels is done for the season.

As for the running back, I like what I read. He seems like a combination of Mason and Aldridge. Let's hope he gets an opportunity to show why they signed him...

That being said, Levi Jones seemed to have been a solid tackle for the Bengals (was the 10th overall pick in 2002). TWISI was right: we should've made this move earlier, but of course, Snyderratto is an idiot to recognize the problem in the first place. My concern though is that Jones often played injured (will he hold up), and he was released by the Bengals back in May so what kind of shape is he in?

Don't think about it too much or your head might explode. My guess is Vinny was blindfolded, and reached into a hat filled with a list of FA running backs written on little pieces of paper...after Google searching the name to make sure that Ganther actually did play in the NFL at one point, he decided to sign him...after doing this, Vinny and Danny, while flipping through the Guinness Book of World Records, notice that they will set a new record by re-signing Reynaldo Wynn for the 157th time...

Posted by: jcnjcnj | October 20, 2009 2:20 PM |

You forgot to mention that the Giants did this again for the last game of 2006. Put Kevin Gilbride in charge of play calling and the Giants won the game and just make it to the playoffs where they proceeded to lose. Which team did they beat with their new play caller? The Skins of course.

So it took 6 weeks of awful tackle play and a potential career-ending injury to Samuels before they signed a legit NFL-starting caliber tackle? Jones has been available since the preseason and should have been signed during training camp so he could learn the offense....now he'll be starting by the week after the bye.

Cerrato should be fired for his negligence in not rebuilding the O-line during the offseason through the draft and free agency knowing it was such huge weakness. Now to save face, he signs a player who is better than any of the healthy OT's on our roster....pathetic mismanagement.

I caught the tail end of a great old Clint Eastwood movie the other day, "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and got a kick out of the following quote from Clint's character, which I think some Redskins, especially the newly starting offensive linemen, might take to heart:

"Now remember, when things look bad and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. 'Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That's just the way it is."

Jones is probably too late and given the teams that passed on him, we'll see if it's also too little. At 2-4, we need to go 8-2 to get to the playoffs.

This move needed to happen when R Thomas went down and they decided to try BMW at RG.

I agree with those who think this also means the report is in on Samuels and he's headed for IR -- and that is what finally tipped mgmt to get another body.

smart enough to spell "paste".

And I didnt paste the whole article because it would of been too cruel to JC. It unfavorably compares him to ALL QBs in the history of the NFL that have more than 900 attempts...not just the actives.
Interesting that Boz's article is one month old yet, it appears more prescient than ever.

Jim Fassel did just that and took the Giants to the Super Bowl in 2000..the lost to the Ravens but still changing play callers mid-season can work...you just have to let it and stop crying over something that hasn't happen yet...just let it work...

Posted by: GasFace | October 20, 2009 4:51 PM

Really? In 2000 the Giants hired someone mid-season who had been out of football for 5 years (and had been calling bingo) and handed over playcalling responsibilities to them?

Oh wait, no, that's not how it happened - playcalling was taken over by someone who had been on the staff already all season long.

What's the difference, you may ask? How about (1) bingo, (2) familiarity with plays/playbook/personnel, (3) meals on wheels, and (4) WTF, if you can't tell this situation with the Redskins is different (and unprecedented) then you need to check and make sure you are still breathing.

Boswell's Touchdown Passes Per Pass Attempt is stupid. Ranking QB's that way is wrong for a couple of reasons.

First, he's making a lot of fuss about numbers which are very close to being the same. It's like saying that a .350 hitter is much, much better than a guy who hits 345.

Second, Campbell vary rarely gets a TD where the receiver makes a play to get into the end zone.

Finally, it's a stupid statistic because it assumes that all you have to do is throw TD's.

Using Boswell's logic, Shaun Alexander ( 1 TD every 21.87 rushes) is a better running back than Jim Brown (1 TD every 22.25 rushes).

The most frustrating aspect in all of this mess is that the FO always seems to be behind in what needs to be done. Jones should of been signed in the off season to back up at the tackle positions. Skins -- I'm not arguing that JC is a franchise QB. What I'm saying is that Boswell's statistic says more about the Redskins offense than it does about Campbell. Over the same period of time, how many TD's per play did the running game generate, for example?

The system the league uses is about the best you could come up with, and using that JC is an average QB. He's not a franchise guy, nor is he awful. An average QB playing on an awful offense.

My contention is that unless you get the real JC playing QB, anybody else back there is going to be about the same.

Getting another QB is way down the list or priorities, which in order are OL, RB, WR, QB

I love you Poopy. Love, love, love, love. This one post exemplifies most perfectly what I wrote yesterday, and what I believe bears repeating:

No, my issue with Barno is the dripping sanctimony with which he confronts those who lack his passion and conviction. Rather than debate on the merits of an argument, he casts doubt about the loyalty of others, thus positioning his own loyalty as superior and, therefore, Barno, himself, as superior to the rest of us. The way he writes, it's not about him being right and you being wrong, it's all about him being better than you because his affection is so much more meaningful.

It's quite okay for Barno to be wrong about the Redskins. It's not okay for Barno to be a sanctimonious jerk.

Vic, I've said it before and I'll say it again. You're a bumbling dimwit who knows nothing about the sport of football. Jason Campbell has been a fine quarterback in his first 2 full seasons as a starter, leading the NFL in fewest INTs last year and steadily improving his QB rating, his completion percentage, and leadership.

Campbell is primed for a breakout season and a good bet to go to the Pro Bowl in January.

The eighties Redskins came close. That team featured blocking specialist Donny Warren at tight end and a plethora of H-back's who also blocked. They were often in 2 wide receiver sets. Art Monk was quite the proficient blocker. Riggins was particularly adept at blocking ... unfortunately that is all George Allen had him doing when he came from the Jets.

*** Piling on with Poopy...an exchange I had with Barno on the Bog... ***

Redskins don't have the most talented team in the NFL, but they are without a doubt in my mind in the top 10 in terms of talent.

We have pro bowl talent across the board. Samuels is a 7 time pro bowler. Cooley is a 2 time pro bowler. Portis, Moss, Sellers, Albright...all pro bowlers. And that's just the offense!

Defensively, we have 2 time pro bowler D'Angelo Hall, 2 time first team all pro Albert Haynesworth, and a plethora of guys I think most of us can agree have pro bowl "potential." This list includes Orakpo, Fletcher, McIntosh, Rogers, Landry, and Griffin.

That's 8 pro bowlers and 14 guys with pro bowl potential. I'd say that puts us in the top 10 in talent, no question. (and I'm not even including Jason Cambpell, who if he keep his turnovers down, is and will continue to put up pro bowl numbers this year).

Posted by: Barno1 | October 6, 2009 3:59 PM | Report abuse

The Pro Bowl, Barno? You mean the popularity contest? The thing where the fans get 1/3 of the vote, and the marketing guys on the Redskins created a "Vote the Redskins ticket" to stuff the ballot box?
Yes, the Pro Bowl...a great way to judge the talent level.

Posted by: 4-12 | October 6, 2009 4:13 PM | Report abuse

4-12, you mean the same popularity contest that has kept London Fletcher out of the pro bowl his entire career? That popularity contest?

LFB was the only member of that defense worthy of being included in the Popularity Bowl.

You're more than welcome to buy into the "On paper, we've got the most talent" crudola that Portis and others spew. I'll go with what my eyes see, week in, week out, season after season...they're not a very good team.

I kind of figgered they would lose more than their share in the beginning mostly because of the OL and because Zorn is essentially doing Snyderato's bidding offensively. I mean Marcus Mason? Alridge? Instead of more OL?

At this point I figured Zorn would circle the wagons get back to basics come with some offensive lineman from around the league and try to get things back on track ... he does have a reasonable defense.

But I knew that Snyder (Snidely Owl) would completely lose it, the diminutive Dr. Jeckyl would again become the horrific and very newsworthy Mr. Hyde and throw the team into a dead spin. Whilst most in the organization try to hide to keep Hyde's finger from pointing to them. Without Joe Gibbs to keep Snyderato reined in you had to expect this would happen eventually? Now didn't you?

I wish I could find that quote from Vinny where he brags about having acquired the most former number one picks. Doesnt matter they have been cut by their original team...just that he can brag about acquiring them.
If anyone can find that quote.. I'll set them up with a date with Barno.

Wait, another former first round draft pick?! Sweet!

Hey Vinny, I think Erasmus James, Ryan Leaf, and heck, even Sam Bowie are still available!

Barno Double Speak (Given all we've read about Barno and how "real" 'Skins fans should be.......)
-----------------------------------

A lot of gamblers out there who teased the Skins spread down to -3 and wanted a score. I know because that's why I booed, and not because of our performance. And yes, kneeling was the right thing to do, but tell that to someone who put $ on the game.

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and daughter Suri reunited with John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston -- plus over 4000 other Scientologists -- at a massive party in England on Oct. 16, Usmagazine.com has confirmed.

The stars were surprise guests at the 25th anniversary of the International Association of Scientologists held at Saint Hill Manor in East Grinsted, West Sussex. During nearly two hours of speeches, Cruise, 47, briefly addressed the rapturous, fist-pumping crowd: "Because we never took our eyes off the ultimate prize, we stand where we are today," he intoned, witnesses tells Us. "We are in this together!"

Chia, there it is again... given all the inarguable, provable reasons to despise Dan Snyder, I don't see the need to paint him as a presumed Scientologist. What does that buy you?

The starSJKing association with Tom Cruise alone is such an embarrassment -- such an obvious attempt for Snyder to be a Hollywood player -- that I don't need to believe Cruise has recruited the Snyders into this quacktastic pyramid scheme of a "religion" founded by a third-rate science fiction writer.

I mean, more power to you, brother, if pushing this Snyder-as-Scientologist idea gets you going. But again, I think we have enough prima facie evidence of Snyder's awfulness not to have reach for something like this...

Posted by: Barno1 | October 6, 2009 6:41 PM

Wow, just...wow.

Isn't "disappear when you're proven wrong" exactly what Barno1 has done? What a loser.

For the record, I thought the Redskins would win 10-11 games this season (even though I didn't advertise like Barno1). I was wrong, and I blame the front office for having a lack of coherent and consistent organizational philosophy for building a strong 53 person team. Just, you know, for the record, since all this is apparently getting recorded and will thrown back in my face later.

Sounds like a smart move getting Levi Jones, as we desperately need experienced O linemen, especially a battle tested L Tackle.

Why do we keep re-signing Renaldo Wynn? What a waste of a roster spot. We need more O linemen. Wynn's been inactive every week he's been on our roster, plus Jeremy Jarmon beat him out of a roster spot weeks ago.

Take your chances on Wynn being unsigned if you need him in a emergency situation - no one signed him the previous 2 times we realeased him. We need more O linemen with experience, not an inactive D End to take up a valuable roster spot.

Barno's predictions:

12 wins total (including playoffs)
NFC East Division Title
Home Playoff Games at Fed Ex
Jason Campbell's first Pro Bowl
Laron Landry's first Pro Bowl
London Fletcher's first Pro Bowl
Randy Thomas's first Pro Bowl

And the rest of the pro bowlers:

Hanseworth
Samuels
Cooley
Portis
Moss
Sellers

And the phrase "Can you believe they wanted to trade Campbell?" is uttered approximately 639,317,103 times throughout the season.

This week's FFUpdate

In a weekend that rivaled real NFL games for thrills, the Hamster league fantasied their guts out.

Ina clash of titans, first place Suzanne's Trippin Billies (6-0) rolled over 2nd place Dealer (4-2). Dealer had the odds against him with many players out on a BYE week, but when the score was 100-8 at the end of Sunday afternoon, well, the writing was on the wall, the floor, the ceiling, the driveway ... With Shaub, Hines Ward and MJD all scoring 25 points or more, the final score was 144-36. Suzanne at 6-0, has a 2 game lead over 3 teams.

Zornskins (3-3) clashed with my Salmon (4-2) team, using his iggles and Seahwaks. Well, those birds much have been nesting because they didn't show up Sunday, resulting in a surprisingly easy win, 124-61, behind Thomas Jones' 36.

The RealSkins (3-3) faced the 1 win, BYE week riddled Alpa Chino team and the result was an upset special. Alpa (2-4) rode 31 from Drew Brees and 25 from the Packer defense to a 110-57 win. Hasselback and the Vikings defense both scored negative points on the day for the Realskins.

In a battle of 2-3 teams looking to get to .500, the Coproliths (3-3, and what's a Coprolith?) took care of cL's Bombers (2-4) with an impressive 118-71 win. While Randy Moss had a huge game with 32, it was balanced scoring that carried the day, as only Copro's kicker failed to get into double digits.

The formerly winless KoolAid Kids (1-5) knocked off E Funk, 83-43. Funk (3-3) had 3 starters get shut out, while Brady led the Kids with 39. Its worth noting that KoolAid had a staggering 109 points sitting on his bench!!

The Stweengs (4-2) trailed by SFSkin's Butz (1-5) team by 2 points, heading into Monday Night. It all rode on LT's shoulders and LT came through, resulting in a 53-45 final. Fortunately for the Stweengs, Butz had left 77 points sitting on her bench.

Over in the FF Peeps league, it remained closely packed.

Redcoat continued to impress as his Fins (5-1) continue to lead the league. His 98-69 win over Tampa (3-3) was led by DeAngelo Williams 30 and AP's 17.

With 4 teams at 4-2, however, Redcoat took a huge step, giving up Peyton Manning for Adrian Peterson. He now has the #1, #3 and #9 RBs. Wow!!

The Skulls (2-4) took a 17 point lead over 4-12 (2-4) into Monday night and held on to win 84-78. MJD's 34 led the way for Skulls.

Alex's Zombies (4-2) overcame the Steers (1-5) by a score of 108-71. It was all about the QBs and it was unexpected. Brees' 31 came against a highly rated jints defense, while Hasselback had a horrid -5 against the bottom ranked Cardinal pass defense.

The Dunsmore family of Houston had a good weekend, with both the Jackalopes and Buffaloes winning.

The Jackalopes (4-2) took care of Nate (2-4), 98-46. Nate had 5 players with byes this week, then started 3 others who played and failed to score.

The Buffaloes (4-2) trampled the Shaft (2-4), 132-54. The Buffs got a huge contribution from Randy Moss, and unexpectedly large contributions from the Tampa defense and Owen Daniels.

My Futaleufu (4-2) team overcame Future (3-3) in a close contest. Brady had 39 for Future, but Thomas Jones countered with 32 for Futa. A 1 point game going into Monday night opened up a bit with the final score was 104-93.

Same thing going on in Philadelphia and other places. Without a line it doesn't matter who you throw into the backfield. And that would include the quarterback.

After the bye if Jones can play they may have a legit left tackle again. But he is injury prone. He's strong, very smart, and arrogant. In other words Haynesworth at left tackle. We'll have to see how that works.

Ok, Levi Jones over Runyan. Neither is going to play this week but Runyan knows the Eagles offense as well as Andy Reid. I would have signed him and tried to get any insider information for the defense as I could since our only hope of winning is for the defense to play out of its mind.

More preseason predictions from Barno1:
---------------------------------------

I'm back and ready to roll for 2009. Have there been any more Barno imposters on here lately? Rest assured this is the OG Barno here. Been on my usual off season hiatus from the Redskins Insider board but now that training camp is about to begin, I think it's a great time to rejoin the discussion.

First thoughts on this blog entry: Wow, Jason Reid used 1077 words and somehow did not report a single new piece of information. Guess it still beats Jason La Canfora, who when there wasn't any news to report he would simply make the stuff up.

2009 predictions: 11-5 and a division title.

Campbell makes his first pro bowl after a monster year. The phrase "can you believe they almost traded him" is uttered approximately 3 trillion times throughout the course of the season.

Malcolm Kelly shocks the world and becomes reliable number 2 receiver, allowing Randle El to move back to his natural spot in the slot, and freeing up Moss and Cooley from double teams as they both make the pro bowl again.

The D ranks number one overall in the NFL, after posting 50+ sacks.

And, most importantly, home playoff games at Fed Ex....

I cannot wait.

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | October 20, 2009 8:08 PM | Report abuse

Barno on Etan Thomas:
------------------

Etan's biggest problem in life (other than his heart condition) is the fact that he's a race-hustling bigot. He believes all members of a particular racial group should think alike, and spews venom at those that dare not conform to his vision of how they should think. Words like "uncle tom" are just as vile as other racial epithets, but guys like Etan either don't understand that or don't care.

He's a disturbed human being, as evidenced by his writings over the years. And it's just sad that the PC media over the years has treated him as if he is some bastion of nobility and intellect. The guy is a bigot, and should be treated as such.

Well, Pooper, you've done it: I have swung all the way over to Barno outrage fatigue, a place I never thought I'd reach. Kudos.

For a few recent weeks I sniped away at Barno like a terrier at his heels up here and on the Bog. I posted some snarky garbage in response to almost everything he posted. I couldn't even put my finger on what set me off, and when he asked me to stop, I apologized and stopped.

What I didn't realize at the time but am almost sure of now is that I was subconsciously seeking revenge for his relentless and absurd campaign against Jason La Canfora. But I couldn't accomplish over a few weeks what you've accomplished in one brilliant afternoon, exposing this creep of a bully of a troll for what he is.

The saddest part is, I wish everything Barno predicted had come true. I wish I'd been wrong and he'd been right about the Skins this season. But the way he made those predictions, the way he pontificated up here, the way he talked down to just about everyone in this conversation, just killed me. That's probably what set me off like Dr. Bruce Banner.

What I'm sayin' is, I love you, Poop.

I don't have the blog cred here that most do, but he did own up to being completely wrong, and now, he is apparently either too despondent or too damaged to post.

He needs a bursting bowl of delicious apathy to get past the ignomy of being a true believer way past the time most sane observers and even perma- deluded optimists gave up the ghost that this team as constituted by the prostitute in chief is anything other than a steaming pile of dung.

As I've said, the problem with Barno isn't that he's a shameless homer. There's actually nothing at all wrong with that.

The problem with Barno is that he would question the loyalty of anyone who disagreed with him, as if he were the sole arbiter of what it meant to be a real fan. He embarked on a completely ludicrous vendetta against Jason La Canfora and, more recently, Jason Reid. In what he has written up here and elsewhere on teh WashPo, one can only conclude that Barno is a disturbed and paranoid individual who believes all those that disagree with him are somehow, in some way against him.

Those of us who have been subjected to Barno's delirious ranting and bullying since the beginning of this blog relish the comeuppance that Poopy is serving.

At some point it will get old, sure. But let us not ever forget what a complete jerk Barno is. And let us thank Poopy for multi-tasking and proving it without a shadow of a doubt. Actually that should have been a no brainer. No coach that has any sort of allure would take a job mid season. There will be several teams in search of coaches at the end of the year and you get the most money by giving them all a shot. Especially if you play them all against Snyder because then the idiot will give you the moon.

From the future Hall of Famer himself: "...offensive line is the safest way to go when it comes to picking high."

And from Pat Kirwan:
"In [2003-2006], 13 offensive linemen [were] drafted in the first round. [In 2006], they started 192 of 208 games: 92%...for a safe pick, go to the offensive line."

Too little too late. Who cares what Levi Jones does for us from here on out?

At 2-4 with the cupcake portion of our schedule done there is NOTHING to salvage this year. NOTHING. THE SEASON IS OVER.

Vinny wants to pay this guy to try and salvage a few more wins and save his own job.

SCREW Vinny. All these moves right now are just further evidence of his total incompetence.

He went with Heyer and BMW at the outset of the season even though everyone knew they were failures. Lo and behold - they are failures.

And this RB carousel is just ridiculous. We've worked out half a dozen RBs and none of them see the field. Why exactly did we cut Alridge??? What is the direction of this offense??? Why do we keep working out no-name RBs instead of Oline prospects???

As much as I love reading it, and want to contribute, I'll leave the Barno bashing in more capable hands, for now.

For those who missed this following bit of good news, this is an excerpt from yesterday's bog interview of Rich Gannon about the Redskins:

"It's a mess," he said. "And now they're gonna turn to a guy in Sherm Lewis that's been out of football for five years. I mean, he was lured out of retirement to work as a consultant, another set of eyes, was what Vinny Cerrato said. I don't think it's something the coaches wanted. He doesn't even understand the terminology. When I sat down and talked with some of the coaches, they said, 'Listen, this guy's been out of it, we have different terminology, different verbiage.' My sense is the coaches aren't happy about it. And they don't have time, the coaching staff, to stop and to bring Sherm Lewis up to speed. And I think that this is actually going to turn into a disaster for this organization."

Oh, wait! That wasn't good news.

RESPONSE FROM BARNO

All-

I see that Poopy_McPoop has been re-posting many of my comments on here lately. I think it's pretty obvious that Poopy_McPoop is actually Jason La Canfora, and he's finally exacting his revenge on me. Obviously JK. In all seriousness, those quotes are pretty humorous when you put them all together, and I certainly deserve it--as I did the same thing reposting the comments of those who demanded Gary Williams be fired after the Terps made the tourney last March. I do wish someone else had done this other than Poopy, who is universally despised over at the Terrapin Insider for his pointless and often dishonest comments. But someone had to do it, I asked for it.

However, other than the prediction comments he quotes of mine, no context was given and the comments were often cropped by Poopy. This is Poopy's m.o. For instance, in quoting Dan Steinberg on his chat this week, he intentionally deleted Steinberg's kind words including "When a similar (though much less intense) despair was afflicting Terps basketball last winter, Barno repeatedly said that the Terps would be fine and that everyone would love Gary Williams again by April. I think he was right. When national analysts were predicting doom and gloom for the Strasburg negotiations, he repeatedly said that Strasburg would sign for a reasonable number and there was no need for even the slightest nerves, even into the last few hours. He was right there, too." And "the WaPost is better because of Barno." Poopy dishonestly removed those comments when quoting Steinberg's response.

That's the kind of slimy tactic he uses. In addition, there are a few comments Poopy attributes to me that I do not recall writing at all (Eddie Jordan being driven out of town by the media? Can't imagine why I would ever have said that, I never felt that way..but maybe if some context had been given I could see where that came from).

But I am not running away from any of the many comments I wrote about this team. I posted a few times the other day that I was about as wrong as one can get this year about the Redskins. I was wrong in spectacular fashion. I apologized for my relentless idiotic predictions but it obviously didn't satisfy some, and that's their prerogative (btw, PDiddy, this "disturbed jerk" is still interested in donating to your non profit which as I recall aims to promote fatherhood/fight against out of wedlock births--one issue we do agree on. I've asked before if you're willing to post the name of the charity, but if not that's understandable and no big deal).

To be continued...

RESPONSE FROM BARNO PART II

There are other claims I vehemently disagree with, namely that I have a campaign against Jason Reid. While I have on a couple of occasions pointed out some things he's written that I have taken exception to, I have also complimented his reporting on numerous occasions, both on the blog and in email to him. I call it as I see it. He and I have had good back and forths, and he thanked and credited me for calling him out on his Mason preseason comments, and said he dedicated a blog item to explaining his stance on Mason thanks to my writing to him).

As for Jason La Canfora, I'll leave that one alone since he is gone now. I'll just say that I was far from alone in my stance on him.

Last but not least, as for Poop's repeated claims that I am the 2 fake poopies that are on Terp insider, all I can say is you can believe what you want, but that's not my style at all. Someone created a fake Barno account on here a while ago and was posting on Redskins Insider for months pretending to be me (he still pops up from time to time). I have no doubt at least some of resentment by Diddy and some others was built bc of some of the things that were said in that time by the fake Barno, but it's no big deal to me. I just feel those tactics are pretty damn cheap and again, I wouldn't do something like that.

I'm not running away from any of my actual comments, more than anything I am just crushed that the Redskins did not live up to them than anything else. I will always believe that this team could have been a good team had Thomas, and later Samuels, not gone down. But I don't think we'll ever get to find out. But I can take the heat and as I said before, feel free to continue to pile on me--I deserve it--and I expect Poopy and others will.

That's about it. Sorry for the book, there was a lot of ground to cover.
