McIntosh inactive after concussion

Updated 8 p.m.

Inside linebacker Rocky McIntosh was among the Redskins' inactive players Sunday night because of the lingering effects of a concussion.

In addition to McIntosh, defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth is inactive for the second time in as many weeks. Haynesworth missed the Week 5 victory over the Green Bay Packers after traveling to Nashville, Tenn., following the death of his younger brother in a motorcycle accident. Haynesworth, given the use of a Redskins private jet, missed practice Wednesday and rejoined the team Thursday.

Former starting left guard Derrick Dockery was also inactive for the second consecutive week. The eight-year veteran, supplanted by Kory Lichtensteiger in Week 3, had never been inactive in his career until Week 5.

Third-string nose guard Anthony Bryant also will sit out. With Haynesworth and Bryant inactive, Maake Kemoeatu is the only active nose guard. Washington is expected to use many dime alignments against the pass-first Colts, and defensive lineman Vonnie Holliday would play the position in nickel and dime packages.

As usual, John Beck is the third quarterback. Running back Clinton Portis, sidelined with a severe groin tear, will miss his second game. Cornerback Kevin Barnes and tight end Logan Paulsen are the other inactives.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Redskins other inactives: cornerback Kevin Barnes, running back Clinton Portis, guard Derrick Dockery, nose tackle Anthony Bryant, tight end Logan Paulsen and defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth. John Beck is the team's third quarterback.

The Redskins will go with only five defensive linemen, though linebacker Andre Carter has been spending a lot more time as a defensive end.

Injured during the Week 5 victory against the Green Bay Packers, McIntosh suffered what the team described as a mild concussion. He sat out the entire week of practice in preparation for Sunday's night's game against the Indianapolis Colts at FedEx Field, and met with a physician Friday in the hope of being medically cleared to play.

On Friday, Coach Mike Shanahan said the five-year veteran would meet with another doctor on Saturday or Sunday. He would be permitted to play only if the second physician cleared him. The doctor apparently did not approve of McIntosh returning one week after the injury.

McIntosh, inside linebacker London Fletcher and cornerback DeAngelo Hall are tied for second on the Redskins with 46 tackles, according to the NFL's game statistics information system. McIntosh has been credited with 28 solo tackles. Strong safety LarRon Landry leads the Redskins with 52 total tackles, including 41 unassisted.

H.B. Blades will start in McIntosh's place.

In the Redskins' first five games, McIntosh played well against the run. Against the Colts' highly effective passing game, the Redskins are expected to use many dime alignments.

I had mixed feelings about the McNabb trade but I have to admit that if Campbell was still the QB that this team would be 0-and-5.

Yeah, they had to make the deal even though the picks are something they really need.

G O O D M O R N I N G RI peeps and sheeps.

Get ready for a healthy dose of the pabrian brothers this week as the Optimism Bus rolls into town.

Following todays loss to the Colts

Us pabrian brothers will be here all week explaining(with impeccable football knowledge may i add) the mistakes of trading away future Superbowl MVP Jason Campbell and trading for McSoup, a washed up never-was. Joining us with a special guest appearance will be ALAN4.(who offers keen insight how if you gave Jason Campbell the perfect team he could win...as if no other QB could do, mind you)

In addition the continuous nitpicking of Mike Shanahans approach will continue with yet another guest appearance from WALTHU19.(folks you must pay attention though because WALTHU19 only shows up toward the end of the thread when everybody has left. Stay tuned to read his ever non-racist posts about Mike ShanaKLAN)

It's gonna be a doozy!

Gotta flip this field. Get a score. We can't fall too far behind in this game.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | October 17, 2010 8:57 PM | Report abuse

Can't be that casual if playing the deep LL. Let's get that gift back.

Posted by: TWISI | October 17, 2010 8:46 PM

More on D Hall, he stood flat footed as PG ran by him. That wasn't a 2 deep.

Posted by: Diesel44 | October 17, 2010 8:52 PM

What I meant was that D Hall can't give a free release on cov 2 and let your guy run right by you.

Need McNabb to be on tonight and the interior OL to be at the very worst average.

AA getting it going.

Posted by: TWISI | October 17, 2010 9:01 PM | Report abuse

McNabb throws the ball WAY TOO LOW. Jesus, can't that be fixed? Maybe aim a tad higher? By the 4th quarter those are in the dirt.

Posted by: No_Punt_Intended | October 17, 2010 9:01 PM | Report abuse

Torain is the real deal. He reminds of a slightly quicker Riggins.

Posted by: NosferatusCoffin | October 17, 2010 9:03 PM | Report abuse

Clinton, Thanks for everything. It was good to know you.

Posted by: beep-beep | October 17, 2010 9:03 PM | Report abuse

What a difference a coach makes.

Posted by: skinpig | October 17, 2010 9:05 PM | Report abuse

Torain sets up his blocks really nicely. Love it. AA with three good plays on that drive. BB stretching the field. Who need draft picks when you can get FA like these.

Posted by: TWISI | October 17, 2010 9:06 PM | Report abuse

I'm riding that Torain lol

Great Drive. Nice balance, If they can continue to run the ball the Play Action will be impossible to stop.

Coverage teams are a beast tonight.

Posted by: TWISI | October 17, 2010 9:09 PM | Report abuse

3 picks dropped.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | October 17, 2010 9:08 PM

That really costs us.

Posted by: beep-beep | October 17, 2010 9:10 PM | Report abuse

Gotta have those. It's real hard to beat Peyton if you keep giving him chances. He's not going to throw too many more of those.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | October 17, 2010 9:11 PM | Report abuse

Buchanon has to go.

WE WILL BECOME A TRUE CONTENDER TONIGHT! Dammit should have 3 f'n picks off Manning! Now that's rare! Lmao THAT BUM OF A QB jason campbell he played like what he is!!! SO GLAD WE FINALLY GOT RID OF THAT POS! HE ISN't A CLASS ACT HE IS A CHUMP! LMAO

Posted by: warriorking1112 | October 17, 2010 9:14 PM | Report abuse

Worse than the non-ints, Manning promptly punishes you if you give him the extra chance.

Posted by: skinpig | October 17, 2010 9:15 PM | Report abuse

that wuz ez

Posted by: sugarstreet | October 17, 2010 9:15 PM | Report abuse

That was waaaaaay too easy.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | October 17, 2010 9:15 PM | Report abuse

That was too easy.

Peyton is working that clock the other way and the Skins DB's have been too loose so that Colts can just run 8 yard outs at will.

Sort of like the Eagles game.

Posted by: NosferatusCoffin | October 17, 2010 9:16 PM | Report abuse

Kareem Moore is really coming up small tonight.

Posted by: beep-beep | October 17, 2010 9:16 PM | Report abuse

Put the 1st TD on DHall

Put the 2nd on KM. Dropped int and blown assignment in the endzone

Posted by: Diesel44 | October 17, 2010 9:17 PM | Report abuse

If we can keep it close till the 2nd half we might have a chance...just keep running the ball!

Posted by: TinyJordan | October 17, 2010 9:18 PM | Report abuse

beepers, y'all

Posted by: stevie_in_gp | October 17, 2010 9:18 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: beep-beep | October 17, 2010 9:20 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: scampbell1975 | October 17, 2010 9:20 PM | Report abuse

BEEPs 2x

Posted by: TWISI | October 17, 2010 9:21 PM | Report abuse

Come on McNabb. This is not the time to get erratic. Gawd!

Posted by: ga8085 | October 17, 2010 9:21 PM | Report abuse

Does Shanahan look like a serial killer? He's got Manson eyes. Fits right in.
