Fletcher Wearing a Walking Boot

London Fletcher had to leave the game last night and went to the locker room for some medical attention, but was not listed on the injury report. Well, he's got a walking boot on his left foot today, so I'm guessing he's going to have to show up on the injured list in one capacity or another.

Fletcher said he will be back in the building in a bit, when we should get a chance to chat with him and find out exactly what the problem is. With H.B. Blades already filling in for Marcus Washington on the strong side, and the Skins already very thin at linebacker to begin with, losing Fletcher for any amount of time would be significant (I'd have to think they stand Jason Taylor up at LB a ton and use Blades at middle linebacker should Fletcher miss any time).

Fletcher, 34, is a warrior, and it would take something significant to keep him out, especially with the NFC-leading Giants ahead. Fletcher has played 171 straight games, the second-longest streak for any NFL linebakcer (Derrick Brooks has played 219 in a row).

... "When we run the ball, we win," fullback Mike Sellers said today during a brief stop at a quiet Redskins Park. "Statistically, you look at it, we run the ball we win. No matter what, that's what this team is." ...

Sellers needs to get with the program. The Owner was very clear ... when they play physical, they win.

I'd be shocked if Fletch doesn't go. The man is made of steel. That Giant offense put up 37 yesterday despite not having their best WR and RB, so going without our best defender is not an option...

Nate,
We need a first person accomment (account+comment) from the game.

I imagined you, zilla, and diddy in a booth.
I had you figured for play by play, zilla doing analysis and pdiddy regaling us with stories of his battles in the trenches (so to speak).

Maybe WaPo can set up a live stream next time.

I'm hoping fletch will run instead of roll. I think he can roll pretty well already.
Blades can roll even better; since he's as wide as he is tall, it's like having a team bowling ball.

A point from this weekend that stood out to me, we were playing the 29th ranked defense in the league, and out of all the winning teams on Sunday we had the second lowest point total of any victorious team, only Houston with 16 points had less. I understand that we all that matters is winning and I am very happy we won, but I really hope Kelly works into this offense and quickly, cause right now its CP with a little bit of Moss sprinkled in and that's it.

Beantown, is it safe to discuss Thomas' bust status yet given that the second Kelly got healthy Thomas only got on the field as a special teamer, he's now 5th on the depth chart...?

Posted by: zjfr2 | November 24, 2008 12:57 PM | Report abuse

I agree zjfr.

Cooley made a few big plays, but single-handedly killed a drive by dropping a ball on one play and on the very next play let his man slide all the way across the line of scrimmage to make the tackle.

Moss's 15 yard penalty... I had a hard time explaining that one to my 6 year old.

I won't talk about some of the pass protection. As is the OL, so goes the Redskins. It has less to do with whether they run or pass and more to do how we do along the line.

I'm not sure everyone is seeing clearly. Worrying about "stud linebackers" in the draft. Receivers. I don't think the receiver problem is going to be resolved. Matt Sinclair is still out there on IR and he is a middle linebacker type.

In the "here and now" as eckart tolle or oprah might say .. ~smiles~ The next game is where we see how smart pulling the trigger on D'Angelo Hall was. And why they need to resign him for next year and later. I think that now is the time to move Shawn Springs to safety. Bring Landry closer to line and stud linebacking ... and put Hall back there with Carlos Rogers. That I think might make this defense the best in the league even with the injuries ... with that kind of one-on-one press coverage now blitzing Eli Manning becomes an option on every play. Run blitzing by Landry.

Championships are won on defense first. Yes, the offense must score some points. But they just don't seem to have the personnel. And there is the equivalent of a D'Angelo Hall out there at receiver they could pick up. There was in Roy Williams but Dallas got him instead.

I think other than Santana Moss, Cooley, and Thrash there will be lots of changes in the wide receiver corps next year. Lots of changes.

The only change that will happen is Thrash will be gone. Moss, ARE, Kelly, and Thomas are here for good, and on TEs, Cooley and Davis are here for good. Thrash and Yoder are the 2 expendable pieces. You will not see many changes at all to the WR/TE core.

Not unless he wins the MVP. The TOUGHEST running back the franchise EVER HAD DID WIN THE MVP. His name was Larry Brown.

Are you kidding? They just spent three second round picks on pass catchers, other than maybe signing a cheap veteran they better not spend any more time, picks, or money on freaking receivers and start spending money and picks on our lines and linebackers. This team is eroding at its core and that needs to be fixed, JC is a potential perennial pro-bowler and they need to get the personnel in here that can protect him. We constantly put the cart before the horse, if JC has Tony Romo/Eli Manning type time to make decisions I guarantee you we wouldn't be saying squadush about trying to find another receiver, it all starts with the lines!

We haven't given up over 25 points this year.

17 points
6 points
10 points

In our losses, our D has given up :

16 points
19 points
23 points
14 points

These stats can't be new to yall. The O sucks, period. I don't know why, we have a very solid QB, a great RB, a pretty good FB, a Pro-Bowl caliber WR (surroudned by all-around average at best WR's). Oh wait, I DO know why. Cause we got a buncha old farts on the O line that can't block for crap.

Rocket science, it is not. Even without a drafting a stud LB next year, our D will be pretty darn good.

when anylizing wheither the offense or defense is to "blame" for the whoes of a team, I always use the 21 point rule. If the d allows more than 21 points in a game then they are the problem, and if the offense scores less than 21 the same assumption is applied. 20-17, we won but the offense and in particularly the pass blocking is the reason for the sub par performance. On average a team gets 12-15 possesions during a NFL game, scoring 3 touchdowns is not too much to expect.

We run basic standings in the post, listing teams alphabetically. The NFL runs the standings based on conference record, hence the Skins are ahead.

then why were we listed ahead of the "boys" before the second game??????

The defense is not "to blame". However, if this team is going to beat the Giants this weekend, it is the defense that needs to step up. Their offense can be shut down. Manning can be flustered into stupid mistakes. Our secondary can stay with their receivers. But we will not win if our run defense plays the way they did against Seattle.

The defense isn't "to blame", but they are counted on to step up in big situations.

thank you cindy! for the official word. not a big deal guys. like nate says it's not like nfl is gonna give it to D and ignore the tie breakers...just cuz times are hard, economy is in depression and people need a distraction and what better distraction than to see the girls lose again in the first round of the play-offs and to and romo crying afterwards and doughboy looking like he's about to melt and jerry jones choking doughboy on the sidelines...

I can't understand why we don't use the play action following a good first down run by Portis to freeze the D and get the ball down the field. You have to take those shots or the D will never respect you ability to do so. Use our strengths to change things up and confuse a defense....keep them off balance and honest.

I really don't care. I just thought it was interesting and mildly annoying. Kind of like how you cant get through 15 seconds of a national pre-game show without the discussion turning to the cowboys even if there is no legitimate reason. I don't care, but I can't help but notice it. If I was a more casual fan and just watched the games every Sunday (as many do) I would believe the Skins needed help to catch Dallas, when they really just need to take care of their own business.

Not to make a big deal out of this but if this is true then why do you have Tampa Bay ahead of Carolina same record and last time I checked C comes before T in the alphabet.

We did use play action, after the run game worked, probably about 5 to 6 times

I think Cindy would agree, however, that if we see a side-bar in the Post titled "Wild Card Standings" or "Playoff Picture" with a line separating the teams that are "in" from the teams that are "out" the Post will likely take the time to make sure the correct teams are above and below the line.
