London Fletcher is having another standout season

By Jason Reid

Inside linebacker London Fletcher, the Redskins' defensive captain, has been everything the team has hoped for since owner Daniel Snyder lured him from the Buffalo Bills before the 2007 season with a contract that included a $10.5 million signing bonus.

The 13-year veteran made his first Pro Bowl appearance after the 2009 season and has been steady again this season despite switching from his familiar role as a 4-3 middle linebacker to a 3-4 inside linebacker. Fletcher has been credited with 72 tackles, including 46 unassisted, 1 1/2 sacks, five passes defensed and two forced fumbles, helping the Redskins tie for the NFL lead in takeaways through the first eight games.

As the Redskins continue preparations to play host to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, Fletcher again will be a big part of the defensive game plan.

"I feel I'm playing a pretty high level," Fletcher said. "I feel I'm doing things to help us win football games."

The Redskins still have eight games remaining on their schedule, and Fletcher, 35, is under contract for the 2011 season for the same financial terms as this season: $4.9 million with a $100,000 workout bonus. The money, however, is not currently guaranteed.

Fletcher believes in the new direction of the organization under Coach Mike Shanahan and is a big supporter of defensive coordinator Jim Haslett. Fletcher definitely would prefer to remain with the Redskins way beyond next season.

"One thing Coach Shanahan talked about is that guys that play well for him, he's gonna take care of 'em," Fletcher said. "I think I've played well for him, so we'll see what happens."

Oh, my bad, I misinterpreted your post.

And I'm more of a boxers and briefs man myself, but glad to see you have such a vivid and fruity imagination. You have a promising career ahead of you as a gay porn director.

I'm glad you owned up to your mistake like a man and didn't follow it up with some lame comment which would indicate you took homophobic exception to the phrase 'got your panties in a bunch'.

Way to go, Phyliss

All well and good, I guess, but am thinking Danny, Ol' Shanny, and the accountants in the Redskins front office are not thinking much beyond the end of the current season -- and the push into CBA discussions that will likely result in a lock out or walk out next year.

Hence, we seem to be seeing a very deliberate and consistent effort to limit their commitments and liabilities and no movement whatsoever to signing McNabb, Fletcher, Moss or anyone else to any guaranteed money in 2011 or beyond.

Also noted: "One thing Coach Shanahan talked about is that guys that play well for him, he's gonna take care of 'em," Fletcher said. "I think I've played well for him, so we'll see what happens."

Not that anyone would ever have any reason whatsoever to doubt so much as a single syllable coming from the coach's mouth. It's not like he's taken the art of lying to a whole new level or anything, is it?

look for shanny to sign Kory Lichs to a 5 year 30-35 million dollar deal in the near future.....he's playing very, very well...

If Lichenstinger is still on the sqaud next year, you'll never hear Heyer's name again up here....there's someone worse to talk about...

It seems like about half the team will be a free agent next year....Any website have an updated list?

LBF has been a great addition to this team. I think he still has two more seasons in him. However, here's hoping that Riley becomes a factor sooner than later.

I missed the Rak post. As good as Rak is, it's a shame that the other OLB doesn't produce much pressure on the QB. Love Alexander, here's hoping he has one more transition left in him to ILB where his size should play to his advantage.

London "Broil" Fletcher is on the All-Food NFL team along with:

Julius Peppers
Jared Mayo
Raphael Cherry
Stephan Curry
Jack Hamm
Cleo Lemon
Sydney Rice
Glenn Coffee
Ken Coffee
Jared Cook
Dallas Baker
Chad Mustard

Don't forget to use the proper Vince Wilfork.

You can wash all that down with a Sam Adams, Chris Draft or Teddy Bruschi.

Just don't eat that all at once or you'll get Harry Colon.

Dude, palease. You threw out the first shot, so don't try that crap. If you take a swing, be prepared to get hit back. Don't ball up like a little punk and try to act like you're the mature one and didn't instigate this. You could have made your point without adding your little panty comment initially.

That's okay. You just demonstrated your sub-4th-grade level of creativity. That said, I am glad that I inspired you to come up with a roster of your own.

You're welcome dooshbag.

PS - At least I know what number Art Monk was Norman Einstein.

Yeah, too bad our Inside LB corps can't be more solid for the future! Is McIntosh gonna get signed? How long will Fletcher play, and do we have his replacement on the roster already???

Posted by: monk811 | November 11, 2010 10:27 AM
I am hoping that Rocky will be re-signed. He is flourishing at inside LB. Remember also that we have Robert Henson on IR. He was looking prety good during the preseason. If he pans out, he could be a solid contributer for a long time. And let's not forget Perry Riley, another rookie who could develop into a solid inside LB. He was a finalist for the 2008 Butkus Award, so there's a lot of potential there too.
