McCardell For Stoutmire/Santana Hurting (UPDATED)

Looked like Omar was saying his goodbyes in the locker room this morning and the players are all assuming Keenan McCardell will be signed. (Found out that Omar was informed he is being released, but that if he's available and any safeties get hurt, he would be re-signed. they like him a lot but he's caught in a numbers crunch.

Guess that will be announced before practice, which starts late today (4:30 ish). But it is done.

MCCardell just walked inside Redskins Park. Looked like he was coming back from taking his physical.

Also, Santana Moss was far less than certain that his groin injury would be healed in time for Sunday's game and was unsure when he would return to practice.

That sucks for santana. Hope Santana heals fast. We're gonna need him in a shoot out this sunday.
Best of luck Omar, you'll probably be back. So don't go far.

Jason--great to have you back. How well will McCardell know the offense by the weekend and when will he be ready to play?

Posted by: PSUAsh | October 1, 2007 12:00 PM | Report abuse

Any chance the Redskins will change their name? How about throwing it back all together.

A)Washington Braves
B)Deep burgandy uniforms with spear on the helment, with a modernized look... and most important...

WINNING!

I suggest the name change because it is offensive and it may be some voodoo like curse on them. If not the Braves, than how about The Washington Powhatans? The Powhatans were settled in the mid-atlantic states. (VA, DC, MD, maybe some PA and NC)

PS- This isn't an ethics call or anything just a suggestion. We could have burgandy hats or black, with the letter B with the spear kind of going through the B. As far as uniforms the burgandy, gold, and white should stay the same, but an alternate uniform should be created with burgandy, gold and black

gibbs wants to cut lloyd SO BADLY that it hurts, but his hands are tied by the cap hit that would create. yes, by his own poor decision making, but he wants that d-bag out of the locker room in the worst way.

From the vaults of RI...

"Ok, for kicks and giggles, what do you arm-chair GM's think that Tampa Bay is going to give us for Ladell. I'm guessing at LEAST a 2nd round pick right?"

Posted by: Greg(Boston) | October 1, 2007 11:57 AM

I was thinking maybe a 2nd round pick and Ronde barber. Is that possible?

Posted by: SkinsRealist | October 1, 2007 12:06 PM | Report abuse

From last post

Bigfish, the question I have is why did you pick Tampa Bay as a trade partner? They don't need Ladell Betts. Both of TB's back up RBs have more yards than Betts on the same number of carries and the rookie Graham has three TDs.

Posted by: LH | October 1, 2007 12:04 PM

Posted by: Anonymous | October 1, 2007 12:07 PM | Report abuse

Portis has rushed 48 times for 227 yards -- a 4.7-yard average -- and has scored three touchdowns. Betts has just 82 yards on 30 carries -- a scant 2.7 average -- and no scores. Despite his slow start, there has been no running back controversy, only dashed hopes that the running game would pick up where it left off.

"It is different," Betts said. "It's a little bit of an adjustment period. I probably didn't realize how much of an adjustment period it would be. The biggest difference for me is coming off the bench as opposed to getting all the carries like I did at the end of the season. I don't have the same type of rhythm that I did when you run a play over and over and you start to figure out what somebody's doing. I'm coming in off the bench kind of cold sometimes, and it's a little bit different feel."

Running Backs need consistency... Bigfish, this says it all. You are correct.

Greg - It would have to be a conditional deal like we did to get Duckett. Based on performance and whether or not they make it to the play-offs, etc. If we would have went to the play-offs last year and Denver didn't then we would owe them a 1st round pick right now.

Lloyd won't be benched until Santana's healthy and McCardell learns the offense, which will be a few weeks. They haven't even gotten Caldwell in yet.

It's not the Rback!

If the guys getting hit 3 yds behind the line of scrimmage, that's not the back's fault.

I don't think a Betts or Portis debate is really the issue here - trades and pix is!

Was he walking gingerly or something? What exactly does the physical comprise, anyway?

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | October 1, 2007 12:13 PM | Report abuse

So you want to trade Betts for a conditional pick, and have ZERO going on behind Portis in the event that he gets hurt???

Why, just makes ZERO sense.

Posted by: Greg(Boston) | October 1, 2007 12:14 PM | Report abuse

Sir Realist, I am in favor of changing the team's mascot, but I think it's safe to say that we will not be picking any name already in use by a division rival of one of the other DC teams. Ergo, a solid NO on 'Braves.' And no on Phillies, Thrashers, and Heat.

I think if it happens, we'll move to something generic like 'Warriors,' which will let us keep everything else pretty much the same. No time soon, though...

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | October 1, 2007 12:17 PM | Report abuse

I think you've got more chance of trading Betts to Carolina for Steve Smith right now than sending him to Tampa. And I don't think you have any chance of doing THAT by the way.

"What would it take to put you in this slightly used front 7 today Sir?"

Posted by: Redcoat | October 1, 2007 12:20 PM | Report abuse

Greg - I never said I wanted to trade him for a conditional pick. But if the Bucs came knocking with a sweet deal (comparable to a Shanahan raping Snyder deal) then I wouldn't be mad at the FO for making it happen. We shouldn't be shopping him around but if the phone call comes in from Tampa we should listen.

Posted by: JoeyV | October 1, 2007 12:20 PM | Report abuse

Greg, I think the original supposition was to have Mason move up from the practice squad.... not exactly nothin', but definitely a gamble on some level.

I do believe that Portis would respond positively, however. While Portis is a team guy, he definitely likes to play!

Without Moss, we will definitely lose to the Lions. I believe the Skin's should claim health conditions and move Gibb's to a ceremonial Team President position, thereby getting a current coach and saving face by keeping him with the organization.

Last year they picked up TJ Duckett
This year it's McCardell.....

What is McCardell going to give the Redskins? He can not play special teams and McCardell can't stretch the field. What does a possession receiver bring to this offense? NADA - NADDA thing. Just another knee-jerk reaction by a coaching staff that has yet to see a free agent they didn't want to sign...

Instead of McCradell make Brandon Lloyd run crossing patterns and posts until he pukes. Or, make Zellers a tight end and give him the damn ball three of four time a game.

The Redskins love has-beens!!!!

greg, marcus mason is a better back than ladell betts. the only reason he's lasted this long in the nfl is because he was a second round pick.

yes, that's right. 1000 yard rushers are dime a dozen these days. i couldn't tell explain the aberation that was last year's 8 game span. but he is not a "interchangeable" back with portis. also greg, you can't have 2 "starters" at every position. especially not the way this team is built (through free agency).

and it is possible that marcus mason will pick up the slack. and rock cartwright has too in the past.

50 backs in this league are better than betts. 2.7 a carry and he's making excuses? whatevah!

Yeah but what's going on with Caldwell? I can't believe McCardell is closer to being in game shape than Caldwell (should be) at this point.

And who says this has to be a shoot out? We just have to play 4 quarters (as the Bears proved yesterday).

Ooops, ok if Maroney is offically out, then his back-up is Morris right? Sammy Morris? Or Kevin Faulk? They're not great but they get the job done. All of this running back talk between Portis/Betts and with teams moving to the two-back feature brings me to ask, is the RB position the easiest to learn on offense? Maybe on both sides of the ball with the exception of D-linemen?

Posted by: SkinsRealist | October 1, 2007 12:37 PM | Report abuse

Skirt - I tend to think it has more to do with learning Al's 700 page playbook than it does with either Caldwell or McCardell being in game shape.

Posted by: bigfish | October 1, 2007 12:38 PM | Report abuse

We don't have any backs over 30 on our roster, Blaylock was the only one and he is on IR. And the Bucs aren't going to call, they like Earnest Graham and were thinking of giving him more carries anyway. However, this offseason, we absolutely should trade Portis, he is a great back, but he is already sliding health wise and he is set to make $10 mil. next season. Get a 2nd for him and move on, there are a ton of good backs coming out this year.

maroney is officially questionable. that's a fantasy ballers nightmare though

Posted by: Anonymous | October 1, 2007 12:41 PM | Report abuse

And btw, Betts is not a feature back. He had a good stretch last year and that is it, prior to that he was an injury prone 3rd down back at best. He has the physical skills but he fumbles a lot and he doesn't have the vision a feature back needs. He's a hit the hole downhill runner but he misses cutback lanes and pounds it in even if there's nothing there way too often.

9/9 NY GIANTS W 45-35
9/16 @ Miami W 37-20

I think Betts is done being a 'compliment' back. He is a back-up and a good one. When he gets the reps, he gets on a roll.

But he is not a feature back, CP is. So I would hope that after the bye the coaches will realize that CP is ready for 30 plus carries. Betts can still spell CP when he is tired, but they should not put betts in for a series just b/c.

And Betts is a good pass catcher, better than CP, but we should have a vertical enough passing attack to not need to dink and dunk with the RB's. If the coaching staff thinks they are missing a serious opportunity to expolit that part of the passing game, might as well put Brunell back in.

Posted by: Zebra | October 1, 2007 12:54 PM | Report abuse

Thanks Greg. Ronnie's 450 yds from scrimmage and 4 TDs in the last two weeks has led us triumphantly to... oh, er 0-4.

If only we could play ourselves for one week.

Presumably there must be SOME benefit that McCardell could offer in your offense before next year, when I believe he becomes eligible to join AARP, so why the long faces guys?

Here must be with you for a reason!!

Posted by: Redcoat | October 1, 2007 12:55 PM | Report abuse

why not give lloyd another chance? from what i can see, he's only on the field 10-15 times per game, and when he is, it's either a running play or pass to moss or ARE. let's give him a real chance at being a go-to-guy until santana heals.
cutting him off is stupid now. he obviously knows the offense better than caldwell and mccardell.
Lloyd hasn't had a starting role in almost 8 games, so it isn't completely fair to bash him, even though his lack of ANY production has to be frustrating to even the biggest b.lloyd enthusiasts.
b.lloyd in the starting lineup will all but guarantee he will have quite a few balls thrown towards him. against a sub-par Detroit secondary, it could be what he needs to build his confidence.
Also, Detroit has NEVER won at DC, so from a psychological perspective, we already have the upper hand. let's take some chances already.
after all, what's the worst that can happen? he won't catch any balls? umm...i guess i'll take my chances.

Posted by: skinz2007 | October 1, 2007 12:55 PM | Report abuse

Bigfish, here is why it makes no sense

There is NOTHING behing Betts, in the event that you trade him, and Portis misses time with injury. Cartwright isn't going to get it done, and as much as Dealer likes Marcus Mason, he's got the same career stats as I do during the regular season.

If you think the passing game is struggling, wait till Rock Cartwright is your starting running back. They've played 3 games this year, how about the smallest amount of perspective.

Posted by: Greg(Boston) | October 1, 2007 12:56 PM | Report abuse

I agree Zebra. I would like to see CP get more carries as well. I guess that's what sparked my whole idea to try to trade him which probably can't happen anyway because of the cap. He is a good back-up but I'm ready to see CP take the bulk of the carries.

Posted by: bigfish | October 1, 2007 12:59 PM | Report abuse

Guys as much as it pains me to say this... oh well F-it...

The Dallas Cowboys appear to be the truth this year. These guys are playing to WIN and not to LOOSE. They don't have a bend but don't break mentality. Tony Romo will become the 4th or 5th richest QB in the league behind P. Manning, Brady, Palmer, and (Not really sure about this guy) Vick. Instead of a mid 90's Favre, isn't he more like an early to mid 90's Steve Young. Or someone you may know really well, Mark Brunell. The AFC championship appearing Mark Brunell, of course. Never will, not about to give to Cowboys the hand job of the millienium, but with Romo, TO, Witten, Barber III, Crayton?, a healthy Glenn, J. Jones (who may not be resigned this offseason, hmmm?)not saying they are, but can draw some comparsions, especially with some position players, to the 94' 49ers with, Young, Rice, Watters, Floyd, Jones, Taylor.

I'm not ready to anoint Romo to Owens, Young to Rice, or Manning to Harrison for that matter, I'm just saying.

To the poster who earlier said Earnest Graham of the Bucs was a rookie, he's actually a 4th yr pro out of Fla. Career long special teamer before getting in and making some good runs this year. One of those preseason delights that never won over the coaches confidence to get regular season carries....til now.

Bigfish, you trade a declining Portis and his huge contract, and you get one of the many great RB's in the draft this year for less money and the same productivity. Do I think Portis is better than Betts absolutely, but I don't think his health will ever allow him to be the 30 carry a game back he used to be and it makes no sense to pay $10 mil a year to a 15 carry back. If they insist on platooning Betts with somebody then get somebody younger cheaper who won't get hurt or cause all the stupidity that Portis does. More than likely (some are juniors) top available backs this draft.

McFadden
Slaton
Choice
Hart
Rice

There are a lot of great backs that we could get in the second round. If Portis isn't our feature back anymore (which is obvious) we shouldn't be paying him like it, trade him getting younger and the same production, he's racked up a lot of carries already and seems to be injured a lot.

You can only play the team's on the schedule so I'm real sorry that our 4-0 start is not impressive enough for the high standards of redskins fans.

By the way, New England has beaten teams with a combined 3 wins also so why is not one questioning them?

Also, if there redskins were off to a 4-0 start even by beating the dolphins, rams, falcons and bills all of the clowns on here would be claiming they are on their way to the Super Bowl.

Dallas has scored far more points than any team in the NFL and they have been playing without 3 of their best players until yesterday(Terry Glenn, Greg Ellis and Terrance Newman)

Believe me, the Dallas Cowboys cannot wait for week 8 either when we will embarrass the redskins

You losers need to worry about your own team and not what the Cowboys are doing because those 3 teams are on very different levels. Enjoy watching Dallas playing in another Super Bowl in a few months

And here is why Tampa is not going to be calling for Betts:

Pittman and Graham finished Sunday with 138 of Tampa Bay's 189 yards rushing.

Why would we gash our depth at RB? Just silly...

And I'm not saying to do it now, I want him for the whole season, this team has a shot in a weak NFC and I want Portis and Betts for the season. But in the off season, it time to look at that contract vs. the production from it, even Portis has said if he doesn't have a huge year, he is probably gone because of his cap number next season.....

"...I'm convinced that the whole tendonitis thing was an excuse to keep him out of preseason."

Posted by: bigfish | October 1, 2007 12:45 PM

Agreed 100%! CP looks at guys like LT and Alexander and puts himself in that categorey. He acknowledged himself, of course, other than the (R) Tiki Barber, Shaun Alexander, and LT who has gained more yards since 2001. Those guys play seldom in the preseason, LT refuses to play. I'm with biggs on this one.

why not give lloyd another chance?

he obviously knows the offense better than caldwell and mccardell.

after all, what's the worst that can happen? he won't catch any balls? umm...i guess i'll take my chances.

Posted by: skinz2007 | October 1, 2007 12:55 PM

Skinz--Lloyd gets another chance, every day, in practice. If he can't get it done there, why should the coaches put him on the field? The coaches don't want the man to fail, but he has consistently let them and his teammates down. They can't trust him, and for good reason.

It isn't about knowing the offense. It's about making plays, and everyone saw what Lloyd did when they threw him the ball, in the end zone, in the Miami game. He let up on the play, let the defender take it away from him, and then wouldn't chase the man after the interception. So, he can do -- and has done -- much worse than drop the ball.

Posted by: talent evaluator | October 1, 2007 1:10 PM | Report abuse

Bigfish, no I don't have it in my mind that he'll get hurt. What I have in my mind, is that if you have a less tired Portis in the 4th quarter of games, because Betts was able to spell him, and do it effectively, then we're a better team.

E in VB - I'm torn over the Mets finish this year. I'm trying to move on as quickly as possible. Here's to building a better group of pitchers next year while still holding on to the core group of hitters that we have (Reyes, Wright, Alou, Beltran, Castillo, Milledge especially)

Do you think they'll make any changes in management or GM?

Posted by: bigfish | October 1, 2007 1:12 PM | Report abuse

Lol, you think that Gibbs faked an injury to the media because why? He wasn't scared of the media when he doggedly stuck to Mark Brunel, he has never been scared to say this is what I'm doing, so if he didn't want to play CP then he would have just said we're being careful and sitting him....he said the exact opposite, that he believes everyone needs to get some reps and that he felt like if he was 100% he'd have played him some. CP's knee isn't 100% and he's said so himself already since the start of the season. And he doesn't look great, he looks OK, he fumbled in the Gints game, he's dropped several passes a couple in each game so far, and he doesn't look anywhere near as explosive on those stretch plays he loves so much.

Posted by: Jack | October 1, 2007 1:13 PM | Report abuse

The problem we have here is that Gibbs is over his head running a two back system. Its an art that you have to master and we can see from the NY game that Gibbs has yet to master this aspect. I love Gibbs but I think this should be his last year. Only now has he discovered that buying up free agents in the off season doesnt work. YOU HAVE TO BUILD THROUGH THE DRAFT. All the successful teams have built through the draft and not just the first rounders but deep into the second day. We end up releasing our second day picks. They cant evaluate players and instead of drafting linemen both D and O we need up drafting TEs and LBs which are a dime a dozen. So we are now in a situation where we are thin on the O-line and cannot cause any pressure on our D-line. And you guys are talking about trading away a RB that could start for any team in the NFL?

Posted by: BeefrioGrant | October 1, 2007 1:16 PM | Report abuse

McCardell is a done deal.

Posted by: Cindy | October 1, 2007 1:16 PM | Report abuse

Here's the reality people...The Skins are a flawed team, just like many others in the league. Look at the Eagles, Chargers and Saints...Any real NFL person will tell you this is about injuries and playing your best football down the stretch. The Redskins injuries are mounting. I don't care what team you are, you can't lose two of your starting lineman and still be as productive. Jason Campbell is a young quarterback with great upside, and he's playing well enough to win us games. When we made the playoffs in 2005, we played our best football in November and December and, although, nicked up, we had few season-ending injuries. We must beat the Lions on Sunday.

Posted by: sicwidit | October 1, 2007 1:18 PM | Report abuse

Greg - I agree but the problem is that Betts has not been able to effectively come off the bench and perform. Like I said, he is a good backup and I realize there have only been 3 games so far but the "two headed monster" thing isn't looking as appealing as I thought it would. I would just like to see CP get more carries. Of course keeping Betts is the safe thing to do but if we were to be offered a great deal (see the Shanahan comment from earlier) then we should listen because his trade value is probably at its highest right now. But as some people are saying, the cap prevents us from being able to do anything so it's probably not worth debating right now.

"...you think that Gibbs faked an injury to the media because why?

Posted by: Jack | October 1, 2007 01:13 PM

Other than Brunell, Joe Gibbs adores Clinton Portis. The amount of carries Portis had in his first two years earned the upmost respect from Gibbs. So Clinton knowing that Gibbs has got his back goes to JJG and asks if he can sit out preseason, get a little more healthy, and be rady for week 1. Gibbs worried that it may cause tension in the locker room, asks him to carry the ball a total of 16 times in the four preseason games. Clinton reminds Gibbs he was hurt on the damn near the first play from scimmage in the first preseason game last summer, Gibbs acknowledging the facts decides to have Clinton "Jake" an injury allowing him to be fresh for opening day.

Some may say BS! Lol, you maybe right. Look it may not be to this degree but, this is the kind of stuff that goes on in locker rooms and practice facilities around the league.

a win sunday will give us a much better outlook on the rest of the season.
3-1 through the first quarter would be awesome.

looking ahead, the next 4 games are:
@ GB
vs. Arizona
@ NE
@ NYJ

tough stretch, but if we can go 2-2 in those games ( W AZ & NYJ), 5-3 at midpoint would be excellent.
The second half isn't gonna get any easier. 2 games against the cowpukes, at NYG, @ TB, and home games agianst Chi, Minn, Phi, and Buffalo.
the worst of those 8 opponents are the Bills, and even THAT's not a gimmie....
with the NFC looking pretty crappy, a 9-7 record will probably get a Wild Card berth.

Bigfish, -

I don't think they will make any changes in management or GM position? I actually think those guys did their jobs fairly well. I don't see how you can blaim Randolph for this collapse. The players just straight choked. David Wright carried this team from an offensive standpoint and Beltran finally came on again the last 6 wks of the season. Reyes flailed the last month and the Bullpen (which was supposed to be a big strength of ours) just got hammered. It seemed like it was always something different each game. Poor Starting Pitching, Poor Hitting, Bad out of the Bullpen or too many Errors.... We definitely could use some better younger pitchers in the Front Five and the bullpen. You can't count on Pedro, Glavine, El Duque... They are getting to old and I questioned the strategy there... They are great if they can stay healthy and can be lights out at times, but let's face it... They are not the future and how long do we hold on...

That Kazmir trade by Steve Phillips a few years back was just awful... I still can't let that one go... I think Omar has done pretty well so far and we shall see what he focuses on this offseason.

The Future of the Mets that we need to build around...

Bats:
Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Milledge, Castillo, Endy Chavez

Pitchers:
Maine, Perez, Heilman,

Hopefully: Carlos Gomez, Joe Smith, Pelfrey, Humber... Shawn Green?

Questions: Delgado, Alou, Pedro, Glavine, LoDuca (Although to his credit, he's been banged up all season and I like him)...

I have no problems keeping some of the older guys around that can help us, but lets not sacrifice the future and the younger guys chance to grow and improve.

We need to keep drafting smart and relying on the Farm system to keep developing good young talent! Nothing wrong with smart acquisitions too... (Free Agent or Prudent Trades)

Re-evaluating my pre-season Skins W-L picks. Packers, Lions, Cards, Bucks all were in the W category...but may have to change a couple of those. Had a split with the Cowgirls, wondering if that's now an L sweep.

On the bright side, Bears was an L, switching to now to a W.

Despite the NFL's new scheduling policy, this season for the Skins may end up actually being one of the more difficult ones in the NFL.

Skins should be giving one back 25 carries a game, the other about 10. Portis should get the 25 carries about 11 games and Betts should get 25 carries the other 5 games. Because runners do get into a flow during a game, you don't want it to be even each game. But 25 carries a game is too much for either Portis or Betts to do every game for 16 games. So feature Portis most games and feature Betts 4-5 times a year.

From the Lions blog...

"I am enjoying this season so far, even though it is a scary thought that any team can come out and exploit the team like the Eagles did...In my opinion all it takes is stopping the Lions offense a couple straight times, a somewhat competant QB and a speedy receiver to beat the Lions. Look at Washington...with those speedy guys, I think it could very well be another Kevin Curtis like ambush against this secondary. Our defensive line absolutley NEEDS to perform at the highest level in order for us to pull out this 4-1 start. Still I am giving our Lions the benefit of the doubt...I am really impressed with whites play, Redding and Rogers are still just unstoppable together and Im even a little impressed with "Palimba". Not to mention both Cody and Devries looked decent Sunday. Lets hope Gibbs doesnt max protect, if we can get campbell to have happy feet we can exploit him.

GO LIONS"

RambleOn,

Yeah first thing to realize is that "ease of schedule" only affects 2 games. You play 4 AFC teams, 4 non divisional NFC teams then 6 divisional opponents planned out years in advance.

The 15th and 16th games are those teams that are closest to your record the prior year and in this day-and-age the previous years record means very little.

Wow, and all before I had a chance to chime back in.

I know trading Portishead would be a huge cap hit, and I do love the guy's heart, but I just have a bad felling that we've seen his best days. I know Betts is older, but there's more tread on the tires, to use a horrible cliche.

I got in big trouble in the offseason for mentioning this up here and I know I will incur the wrath of the more football savvy, but my intuition tells me that if they were going to trade an RB it would be CP.

OK, now we can officially agree to disagree.

Another comment from the Lions blog. This guy thinks more of the Redskins than some of us do. I don't see them running the ball on us though.

"jason campbell has a very accurate arm and throws a nice deep ball with 2 speedy recievers. they have given every team fits. portis is a very good rb that will give our LB a run for their money. key to stopping him is before he gets going. their secondary is all top 10 draft picks. very aggressive style and tenacious. i think we will need to use a lot of play action on them to keep taylor and landry up in the box to be able to go over their head. i can see us actually running the ball on them with woody and scott having a good game. our safties need to play great for us to win.."

Posted by: bigfish | October 1, 2007 2:46 PM | Report abuse

the 15th and 16th games are picked according to what place you finish in your division, right? so since the skins finished in 4th place, they play the 4th place team in both the NFC South and NFC West...which happens to be the Bucs and Cardinals....so we really got shafted.

according to the scheduling, we were supposed to get the easiest two games...but the Cowboys get the crappy Saints and the lackluster Seahawks. I'll trade for those two games in a heartbeat.

I freakin hate teh Bucs...it's almost like they're a division opponent. i hate how we play them every year, and EVEN WORSE, i hate how it's always ON THE ROAD.

NFL needs to fix that crap.

HALL WANTS OUT

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports that Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall asked for a trade in the wake of last week's blowup with coach Bobby Petrino.

"He's going to play out the season and see what happens," a source close to Hall told Cole. "He's not happy, but he'll calm down and see how things are . . . I would expect some teams will be asking about him, but the Falcons said they won't trade him."

On Sunday, Jay Glazer of FOX reported that G.M. Rich McKay said that Hall won't be traded this season. "We're trying to get better, not worse," McKay told Glazer.

Hall was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2004 draft, and is signed through 2008. He was benched for a portion of Sunday's game against the Texans. His replacement, rookie Chris Houston, was beaten for a touchdown pass."

Any interest in FA for next year? I've always thought he was kind of over rated myself.

:-)

Any predictions for tonight's game? I have a dinner thing and can't watch, but will definitely TiVo it. I think Cincinatti could surprise folks tonight. Ocho Cinco on national TV...I wonder what he's going to come up with tonight. I love that guy.

On another note, pretty stoked to catch the next episode of "Journeyman". It's a remarkably silly show, but kinda neat in a "Quantum Leap" sort of way. I'm very curious where they take this show...

They've had one decent win against the Bears, we have had one good win, we just dropped one we shouldn't have, ya'll will too.

How was I crying? by saying the Cowboys aren't that good? Sorry they're not......They haven't had an impressive win yet. Detroit beat the Bears, nough said, Tampa beat the Rams, Oakland beat Miami, and the Gints have shown they aren't as bad as everyone thought they were but they're hardly a powerhouse and they scored 35 on the road on you.

RB - Hall is still under his rookie deal. It does scare me to think that Danny would throw money at him in free agency. And to think of how much $$ that would be considering the Clements deal this year.

The Giants almost had more sacks last night than we had all of last year. Repeat, the Giants alm... ah nevermind.

It's amazing when you look at a game like last night, where the defensive line single-handedly wins a game for a team, that our coaching staff decides to 'stand pat' with our aging line this year. A strong D line means everything on the defense, especially with helping your coverage guys...

Oh well, maybe next year...

P.S. Who thinks this is what the Skins "want list" looks like for next off-season?

1. 6th string WR
2. 7th string WR, must be under 6 foot and over 35 years old

Hey i have just been reading through what everyone has been saying and AL at somewhere around 2:37 made a great comment. We should have Portis featured for around 11 games and Betts the other 5. This would keep teams off balance as to who's running, keep them healthy, and let them get into their own rhythm in the game. Didn't know if anyone else said anything, but that was a real nice thought on Al's part.

My hatred for Dallas & Philly are well established. I'm on a campain to drum up Gints hatred! Let's go Skins Fans!

In all the recent games against the Gints, it's always come down to whether the skins had the heart to overcome the difficulties. I think a healthy hatred of the hue of Blue should do that for us - for the team.

My picks, here on out:

Lions W

Packers W (they'll be due for a loss after going 5-0, once they trounce da Bears)

Cardinals W (one of the most inconsistent teams in the NFC)

Patriots L (they already know our moves)

Jets W (they suck)

Eagles L (payback time)

Cowboys W (suck it, Romo!)

Buccaneers W (they should collapse by now)

Bills W (eh)

Bears W (why not?)

Giants W (revenge!)

Vikings W (yep.)

Cowboys W (hoorah)

I'm convinced that at least 2-3 of those Ws will actually be losses, but the kool-aid is strong over here. At this rate, we'd be 13-3; I'm much closer to believing 10-6.

Lions W (coming off a bye and after their win last week)

Packers L (the bears get off the schnide vs a division foe)

Cardinals W (one of the most inconsistent teams in the NFC)

Patriots L (they already know our moves)

Jets W (they suck)

Eagles W (full self destruction by this point)

Cowboys W (suck it, Romo!)

Buccaneers L (we just always lose to them)

Bills W (eh)

Bears W (why not?)

Giants W (revenge!)

Vikings L (b/c we do crazy S like that)

Cowboys W (hoorah)

So 11 - 5. Split with the boys 10 - 6, sweep by the boys 9 - 7. Of course I'll never let on what I really think is going to happen b/c no matter what Im saying we win both. I just have to.

So as go our game sagaint the boys so go we. 5-1 in division, 4 -2 or 3-3

McCardell doesn't have to be able to run - he is strictly a "move the chains" type of receiver. He has great hands, so all he has to do is run to the 1st down marker, turn around, and then catch the ball. Deep WRs take the CBs downfield, so LBs and Safeties have to try and make plays. Go back and watch film on the 91 Skins with Art Monk. Same kind of thing - and it improves the running lanes as well. (McCardell can also be the WR coach when he retires.)

Simple stuff.
