Meet Mrs. Spags
Jasno and JReid continue to work the phones, but I wanted to share this little tidbit from the D.C Sports Bog and our pals at the Newark Star-Ledger.

That's completely uncalled for, Burgundy. You know those rating systems are flawed. They don't take in account houses that have... uh... more than two television sets... and other things of that nature.

Fair to say that we stopped ourselves in that game. As I recall it was a combination of conservative play calling and inept execution that let that lead get away from us.

True, but their LBs did say he had called out our play(s) on that 3rd and 4th downs. Not that it was hard to call out, I did the same before we ran them.

It is my understanding that Bram spoke one on one with Snyder at the Monk/Green Presser yesterday and is planning to talk about that conversation on Redskins Radio today. Dan Snyder will not be giving an interview live on the radio...it will simply be Bram talking about their conversation. He did mention that they talked about Gregg Williams.

When you consider the drop-off from Gibbs 1.0 to Gibbs 2.0, how weak do you project that a Gibbs 3.0 would be?
Danny won't mess with Mrs. Spags. The protocol is that Mrs. Danny would ride around with Mrs. Spags in a limo and show her neighborhoods and private schools. Danny and Spags would be in Danny's Oval Office, smoking cigars. Danny may offer him some shares in Six Flags and Johnny Rocket's.

How the mind of a typical Redskins fan works
First- The Giants just won the Super Bowl.
Second- Mr. Spags was in charge of the Giants D
Third- Mr. Spags was also in charge of the Giants D that stopped the Redskins on 2nd and goal from the 1 yard line in week 3.
Forth- Mrs. Spags is likable.
This is all the information the Monday Morning Quarterbacks known as "Redskins fans" need to know.
It's unreal to read some of your comments. It really, really is.

An email from a friend to look at cap shti
****************************
PCin OZ explains What I think should happen
Those players released after June 1, 2008 will nett us cap savings in 2008 that we could'nt use on acquiring players at that time of the offseason but will leave us with a carried forward dead cap problem in 2009. So we manipulate contracts to add loophole LTBE incentives for 2008 to "use up" all that space (but will never be earned), and when they go unearned will result in our cap number for 2009 being adjusted upwards with the associated cap credits. This would help offset those dead cap carryovers.
Release/Trade Pre-June 1 2008
Daniels
Washington
Griffin
Springs
Thrash
savings = $10.2m
together with guaranteeing the roster bonuses would get us comfortably under the cap, to allow for drafting rookies and signing a few young upcoming FA's with cap friendly deals in 2008
Release/Trade Post June 1 2008
Lloyd
Jansen
savings in 2008 = $7.4m
dead cap hit in 2009 = $12.1
LTBE incentive loophole = $7.4m resulting in cap credit in 2009
2009
Gaurantee the roster bonuses again
By doing all this - and using the current roster of players as the basis - we would be nearly $20m under the NFL non-adjusted cap going into the 2009 offseason, and after the $7.4m in cap credits from 2008 adjusts our cap number upwards, we could be close to $27.4m under. The contracts of any FA's we would sign in 2008 - including our own - would bring this number down as would rookie signings in 2008.
While those numbers are somewhat artificial because of the number of players its based on, its still a nice base from which to build a winning team over a long period of time...............and with current high priced players like Portis, Samuels, Thomas. Moss, Randle El and Carter still on the roster and not having to play cap contorsion every year.

If Spags is offered this job/accepts, it is because of his ambition and because of the money. What really good coordinator would take this job 1-working for Vin-Dan and 2-their staff is already pre-selected?
Also, if he accepts he has an incredibly full plate of stuff to learn coming in the door (players, his staff-in-place, cap, policies, free agent selects and the 2008 draft), a little more than defensive schemes.
Posted by: n6797p | February 6, 2008 2:13 PM | Report abuse
Barno, normally I would agree with you. However, there really aren't many "good" HC candidates out there... certainly no one even half the "caliber" as Joe Gibbs. The only available guy out there who I would love to have here is Marty... that's just not going to happen.
None of the candidates we know about thus far really impress me. They are all mediocre and i won't expect much from any of them.

The logic behind most Barno posts:
I hate it if it's:
1. Written by JLa.
2. A post which agrees with even 10% of what JLa posted.
3. It disagrees with any point Barno has made.

Posted by: chrislarry | February 6, 2008 2:21 PM | Report abuse
Z, thanks for posting that, and while I would be all in favor of some of those moves, Lloyd, Thrash, I'm not sure that the team could do them without certain repercussions. Washington, Griffin, and Springs, while older, started for the majority of the season, and would be hard to replace all three in one year. I think what might be more feasible would be pursueing getting them to re-work their contracts, if they were agreeable to it.
What do I know though...

The logic behind Snyder-bashing posts:
I hate it if it's:
1. An idea or action of Dan Snyder
2. A coaching search that isn't over after two days
3. Anything he has ever done
Seriously, for all of the grief you guys give Barno over his JLa bashing, you sure do bash Snyder constantly in the same exact manner.

Zebraskins, I'm guessing your just trying to make friends among the Faithful by throwing out there the "pre-June 1 cuts" of Washington, Griffin, and Springs.
[That said, I anticipate the same thing ... that the guys hired in March 2004, esp. the good ones, have reached the unaffordable parts of their contract tenure here.]

Well, if we paid Jason thousands of dollars to read his column (get the parallel here?), and it was generally less than average, maybe people would look at Jason and Snyder (or some guy that's obsessed with defending him) similarly.
Good try, though, I know it was hard to come up with that.

Nate,
I'm as happy as they come. Great job. Great fam. Great woman. And lots of free time. And, in case you haven't noticed it yet, I'm one of those people who could not possibly care less what others think of me. Life is way too short. And thus I like to think I speak my mind freely and without inhibition.
But, it's become plainly evident that I lost you as a barno fan recently. I could be totally wrong about why I think that is, but my instinct tells me it was right around the time I started making my political beliefs on certain issues known on this blog, i.e. the Rooney Rule/Affirmative Action etc. (Let me take a wild guess: You are not a conservative Republican) And if that is indeed the case, that is unfortunate.
