Haslett: Vick means 'everything changes'

When Philadelphia Coach Andy Reid changed his mind and decided to stick with Michael Vick as the team's starting quarterback instead of turning back to Kevin Kolb, a lot also changed for the Redskins. As in their whole defensive game plan for Sunday's NFC East matchup at Lincoln Financial Field.

"We changed everything on this one," defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said. "This isn't one we worked on in the offseason. We did a lot of different things for it and when they changed the quarterback, obviously everything changes."

Obviously, Vick is among the most elusive quarterbacks in NFL history. The three-time Pro Bowler causes fits for opposing defenses when the pocket collapses and he improvises, but focusing on containing Vick in the pocket could lead to other problems for the Redskins, Haslett said.

When Haslett was the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, the first time he faced Vick, who was the Atlanta Falcons, Haslett told players, "Make sure you contain him. And I had guys going half speed looking at him," he said. "So, I think there's a fine line between going to get him and being smart and not.

"One thing the defensive linemen have to know is that they can never lose him in their eyesight. If they lose him in their eyesight then you're wrong and you need to get back into eyesight with him. Whether you're up the field, you're spinning or whatever, you've got to make sure you have him in your eyesight all the time."

Good! Because the stuff you worked on in the preseason is getting this team mauled. Change it, please!

Landry should be the shadow this week against Vick! IF he just connects on one of his vicious hits on someone other than his team mates, then it will all be worth it.

J Reid,
rehashing old stories will earn you a boogerface. aside from the quote:we changed everything we did in the offseason, this story is on its' third tour.. we know how McNabb feels, we know about Vick, defensive struggles, offensive woes, haynesworth big mouth and silverbacks' toe what we don't know is what Shanny ain't tellin you and until that changes maybe you should just post some cheerleaders' pics. for us, okay? thanks, you're a guy!!!

I smell a huge game for Cooley.

We weekend offensive coordinators take a moment to agree.

Not mentioned in all the "Here's How to Stop Mike Vick" chatta is that best defense is a ball control offense.

And that's how CC and FD could have strong games.

The skins have gone 'two tight' to minimize rush/blitz pressure at the edges of their offensive line.

The Eagles like to use 'A' gap pressure (double linebacker blitzes at guard center gaps), so the tight end delay or 'pop' pass, slants, boot/roll out, and sprint draw action should open up the field.

The Eagles D is a 'feast or famine' style, so picking it apart with dink and dunk type passing should create more than a few long drive and keep Vick off the field.

And keeping him off the field is the best way to defend him.

"Give the man a little credit for looking at models of success like the Steelers & Patriots etc. & trying to fix something that has indeed been broken.....That being said, our D still sucks!"

Yeah, it looks like the great re-building so many people want has begun with Mighty Mike Shanahan forcing an offensive/defensive style on the roster, then cutting/adding players in the upcoming off-seasons who can execute it properly.

So things will suck now.

Hopefully, they won't suck later.

@gimmesummoe,
are you kiddin me? give that man more than a lil space to work with. I hope he builds a Dynasty here. at the same time the Easdt is mighty weak at least thus far, and it can be ours to take with alil more focus and alot more discipline.

scamp- pabrain is literally to stupid to insult.

Posted by: Diesel44

Much as I hate to get involved in pizzing contests between practicing morons, just wanted to point out that Pabrain may be "too stupid to insult" but the fact Diesel44 wrote "to stupid to insult" puts him in that category, too. Or as he might write "that category, two."

Yeah, I know typos shouldn't count. But they are fair game when they show the insulter is dumber than the insultee.

I wanted to thank you for taking the time to make me aware of my egregious to instead of too mistake.

For an old codger such as yourself to take what very little time you have left and create awareness to this epidemic is really something special.
