Shanahan denies Vincent Jackson trade rumor

Updted: 4:18 p.m.: The Chargers failed to trade Jackson, who will miss the next four weeks of the season.

The San Diego Chargers have until 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon to trade Vincent Jackson if the receiver's suspension is to be cut from six games to four. The Redskins have been mentioned as a team that could be interested in Jackson, but according to Coach Mike Shanahan, the team is not pursuing the receiver.

"That's another rumor that comes up, and it's a rumor. There's no credence to it," Shanahan said after practice Wednesday.

Asked if he'd like to the lay the rumor to rest, Shanahan said, "I think I just did."

Even it were some truth to it, especially with the new cloak and dagger atmosphere, would you expect him to say 'Yes, were trying to trade for Vincent Jackson'?

I'm expecting that if VJ is traded here, we'll get a thread on how Shanahan lied to the media, like La Canfora did when Jason Taylor was traded here.

You know, I didn't even realize that there is a whole other blog culture full of characters like us over at Lavar Arrington's blog. Only saw a couple people doubling up over there from here. Wonder if it's like that Seinfeld episode where there were 2 different yet eerily similar groups of people hanging out.

Shanahan apparently has yet to speak with the front office on this...

I suspect that's why they released LJ27... to everyone's apparent surprise... because they needed to clear a roster spot.

The rest of these fifth string backs are only running a smokescreen.

Zorn's pregame advice to Flacco was to "stay medium".

If every player publicly called out another guy for making a mistake, you'd better believe that locker room would turn to hell.

I'm sure LBF has chewed out some of his teammates before (in fact I know he has, in the locker room at halftime of his first game in a Redskins uniform), but he does it in a manner that reflects leadership.

Like Portis, I don't doubt DHall's passion. It's how he channels his passion that ticks people off.

Posted by: psps23 | September 22, 2010 3:53 PM | Report abuse

If I didn't care about winning, I would pray that Haslett let DHall cover the opponent's top wideout. Because humble pie would definitely be on the menu.

And the issue is not DHall wanting to take it on and display bravado. God bless him. The issue is him talking sjk about teammates and placing blame outside of the locker room. That wasn't cool. I don't understand why people don't get that.

I noticed that Zorn is still stopping his QB at the sideline after every series, good or bad, and yapping his ear off. No chance to talk to his receivers, look at the polaroids, decompress...anything. Just 3 solid minutes of Zornspeak and a reminder to stay medium. I will be very interested to see if Cam Cameron keeps him around if Flacco continues to play like he did Sunday.

It's a way you go about everything. They have meetings for defense, meetings for CBs, meetings for the secondary, meetings for the entire team.

You're telling me that Hall couldn't get that sh*t off his chest in any of those forums?

Yeah, he could have, should have. But no. He wanted the media to know... All he was doing was the classic classless jerkoff move: Let me see how I can belittle others while at the same time inflate my own damn ego.

Despite contract terms with more than one team, no Vincent Jackson trade
Posted by Mike Florio on September 22, 2010 4:03 PM ET
The deadline for trading receiver Vincent Jackson has come and gone, and the player remains the property of the Chargers.

Agent Neil Schwartz tells us that he had worked out with more than one team an acceptable contract for Jackson, and that the deal did not get done.

Schwartz blames the lack of a deal on the Chargers' demands.

"Other General Managers, felt that the Chargers were being totally unreasonable," Schwartz told us by phone.

"Archie Manning had it right about this organization," Schwartz said.

Posted by: psps23 | September 22, 2010 4:05 PM | Report abuse

Today's 4pm deadline doesn't matter to anyone except VJ himself. Any team that would be interested in acquiring him still has until the normal trade deadline, which is week 6. So if VJax needs to sit out six games teams just won't trade for him til the deadline to avoid having an inactive WR on their roster. So just because he isn't traded today does not mean he won't be traded.

O, trust me...I get it. My wife was fired in her 1st 90 days at the job last month. Her boss was talking about her saying she didn't know what she was doing, but it was actually their processes have been wrong and the employer never knew how to perform the work correctly in the 1st place, so if someone points that out, the boss would look bad, so she got rid of my wife to keep her job.

And I have been blamed (wrongly) many times over my different jobs, including this one. But you gotta internalize it and use at as motivation to do better. Not b!tch about it. Yeah, it makes you mad, but what can you do about it except for go out and prove any and everyone wrong.....

Beantowngreg's Mouse Placed on IR.

In breaking news, it has been learned that Beantowngreg's mouse was placed on IR earlier this afternoon.

According to Washington Post reporter Mike Wise, the situation looks career-threatening. "Greg's mouse tried to hold up, but the constant refreshing of PFT for the latest news to fake was more than the left mouse button could handle."

Players were visibly shaken as they watched the replay, noting the left button literally snapping in half under the constant barrage of finger taps.

"This is a serious blow to the faking of reports," commented Mike Wise. "Hopefully Beantowngreg's mouse will be back at the start of next season. Without that mouse, I just don't know how Beantowngreg can continue to destroy his credibility."

More details to follow...
