Jerry Porter, Marques Hagans, Roydell Williams among WRs in Redskins' minicamp

Updated at 3:28 p.m.

Not everyone participating in the Redskins' first offseason minicamp is under contract with the team. At least three wide receivers took part in the three-day camp as a tryout for a permanent position with the team, including Jerry Porter, a former second-round draft pick and nine-year veteran.

"There's a lot of talent around here," Porter said after Sunday's practice. "I've seen the offense from afar before. It's definitely an offense I'd like to be a part of."

Porter was originally drafted by the Raiders in 2000 when Washington General Manager Bruce Allen was in the Oakland front office. He had nearly 4,000 receiving yards there from 2000-07. His departure from Oakland was not without controversy as he was suspended during his final season for his behavior.

In 2008, Porter signed with the Jaguars but began the season injured and started only six games, catching just 11 passes. He was released following the season.

Porter is a Washington native who attended Coolidge High and played college ball at West Virginia. He said he's not certain what the Redskins' plans are for him.
"I don't know," he said. "I have no clue."

The team also invited receiver Marques Hagans to minicamp. Hagans has bounced around a bit and finished the 2008 season on the Redskins' practice squad. He was with the team through training camp last year before being released.

Roydell Williams, a fourth-round draft pick in 2005 who played with the Titans from 2005-2007, was the third wide receiver in minicamp.

I hope Obama makes a turn towards the right, a-la Clinton. If he wishes to be re-elected, he must. Clinton cut taxes and was much more moderate than most give him credit for. The two parties intend to divide us and most are their willing puppets. I am a fiscal conservative, therefore the two major parties offer no choice for me.
Check out the pork on all bills democrat or republican. If it doesn't awaken you and make you sick, you're part of the problem!

Porter may do well here...People from D.C. tend to be wild as f*** and tend to profit from some discipline , aka Shanahan..

You have to wonder if it's Terrell Owens.

Ooooops!: I forgot who our starting quarterback is now.

In any event, we do need a fifth receiver, and do have some options.

I'd like to use F Davis as a fifth receiver.

This opens up a roster spot would allow the team to carry three quarterbacks (a rookie and Rex)and a special teamer/hybrid-type player who can play some offense/defense as well.

The skins--as usual--are reaching

If you guys learned how to draft--you wouldn't be going through this.

Sorry-but all our guys are young-so we don't have any old guys to help you out

1965skinsfan,
Check your facts. Obama has already LOWERED TAXES and reduced spending!

95% of working Americans received a tax CUT from the Obama administration.
Americans paid less taxes this year than any year in the past 60 years!

"Pork" spending is also at the lowest level it has been in decades.

If you insist upon making political statements on a SPROTS blog, at least make accurate statements.
Otherwise, I suggest you take your garbage to a Tea Party or Fox News blog where you can be with the rest of the like minded simpletons on the far right.

Sign Porter for the vet minimum and give him a shot during training camp.

Wow....keep drinking the Obama Admin talking points. While it is true that there was that MGW credit, let's be honest, he's done the same stuff bush has fiscally, he's cut some taxes and increased spending by a but load, only eventually the little tax cut we got this year will be offset by the tax increases caused by the expiration of the Bush era Tax Cuts, ObamaCare, Cap and Tax, etc. Oh and if you are a smoker he already raised taxes on you as I recall. Plus if you aren't in a union and you have whatever they define as a "cadillac" plan your going to be taxed there too.
