Moss: 'That's Clinton'

Jason La Canfora reports:

Wide receiver Santana Moss, one of Clinton Portis' close friends, weighed in on Clinton Portis vs. Jim Zorn.

He said that it's essentially Poirtis's nature to "express himself" as he sees fit.
"That's Clinton," Moss said. Like other players, Moss said, "at the end of the day we've got to move on." He wasn't surprised at the flare-up, saying that, with the team on a 1-4 streak and mired in offensive problems, "you have to expect there's going to be some things said."

He said that it's essentially Bill Clintons nature to "expose himself" as he sees fit.
"That's Bill Clinton," Moss said. Like other players, Moss said, "at the end of the day we've got to move on into the pool of jello." He wasn't surprised at the flare-up in Bills pants, saying that, when the former president is streaking and mired in a pool of jello covered fat chicks, "you have to expect there's going to be some things said and some things not said about sexual relations, with that woman."

If I remember correctly in the beginning of the season when Portis had problems with our offensive line he then when on to become the leagues leading rusher. I can see him turning this aggression into 200 yards this week.

Posted by: Aaronh81 | December 10, 2008 2:09 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, Zorn has everything he needs to run a good offense.

Oh, except for those FIVE GUYS that make the holes for the backs, and keep the qb off the ground.

Yup, everything he needs. Funny how so many people talk about "building" but as soon as it gets rough they want dump what's been started and start over again.

F'in hilarious.

Posted by: craig2 | December 10, 2008 1:57 PM | Report abuse

well by my figuring up until two weeks ago we had the league's leading rusher, we have a probable 1000 yard receiver in Moss, and a top 5 in the league TE, and a decent strong armed mobile QB, there are a lot of teams doing well with a lot less. Can our oline line straight up and mash people? No, but they have their strengths, if we you did things like roll the pocket, a lot of shotgun, and a slant or hot route now and then instead of 5 step drops all the time.

Everything with the Skins in DC that is remotely significant gets blown out of proportion.... DC is Skins crazy and the fanatic passion drives the panic! You have to take it all with a grain of salt.

BOTTOMLINE: This team needs to win and silence all of the BS and talking heads that are trashing this team now that they've struggled mightily these last few weeks.

Prediction: If this makeshift O-Line can be half decent on Sunday, CP will put this team on his back once again... If not, aww man, this team might now win again this year.

NOTE: Heyer can't be a big 320 pound wussy anymore. MAN the F up and hit them hard as sh1t in the mouth when they call a run play... Buges needs to drive these guys hard this week! THIS IS IT!

So here's the deal: If Atlanta beats Tampa Bay on Sunday, the two wild cards will be the Bucs and Falcons.

That's not mathematical, just the likelihood based on remaining schedules.

If Atlanta loses on Sunday, however, then the second wild card could go to the Falcons, Cowboys, Eagles, or Redskins.

The Bears don't really factor into the wild card picture because they're going to win the North, even though they're a game back from the Vikings right now. The Bears will finish 3-0, while the Vikings will finish 0-3 (or 1-2 if the Gints pull their starters early in the finale).

There you go.

was that his plan with Jansen too? Insult a popular leader of a franchise you just took over by not even telling him that he's benched before he finds out from the media.....yeah he's a master schemer that Zorny, maybe next he'll leave a backup center on an island against a premier pass rusher, or use his final challenge for the game to maybe save 4 yards with 8 minutes to go in a one score game and possibly lose a timeout as well or maybe he'll keep using Randel El on punt returns despite having a pro bowler (Hall) or another great returner in cartwright, you're so right, have faith in Zorny he's a mastermind.

Posted by: bigfish761 | December 10, 2008 2:01 PM | Report abuse

Actually just over two seasons. He was the then youngest coach in a Super Bowl game in 1995.

From Wikipedia:

"In Cowher’s 15 seasons, the Steelers captured eight division titles, earned ten postseason playoff berths, played in 21 playoff games, advanced to six AFC Championship games and made two Super Bowl appearances. He is one of only six coaches in NFL history to claim at least seven division titles."

Why do you think the Danny would NOT want to go for that coaching record if it were available?

Zorn calls quick slants all the time, just like every other west coast coach. They don't always work, possibly because teams see it coming, possibly because they know the Redskins would rather throw short than protect for a deep throw.

Fans like you (and others) blame the coach or one particular skill player. After all, it's easier to imagine that just changing one person will make things better. Sadly, the truth is the Redskins' lines are too old and/or untalented to hold up over a 16-game schedule at this point.

This is what happens when you build a team from the skill positions inward rather than from the lines outward.

Zorn, Campbell, Portis and even Jansen aren't to blame for that. They just try to do the best they can do with what they have. The real blame falls on Cerrato. A well-run front office would have drafted multiple replacements for their aging linemen BEFORE they started to look like they were getting over the hill. A good FO would have already figured out what they were going to do when Portis suddenly got old fast (which is what happens to RBs with a lot of mileage), rather than extending him for too long.

Sad but true. The lines need an overhaul, and the FO needs to start anticipating rather than constantly reacting on the fly. Until that happens (and until fans become realistic), expect more disappointment.

OMG, do not lump me in with the fans that believe that changing JC or Jansen will fix everything, and if there has been anybody on here that has beaten people over the head with the suckeness of our front office its me! However, that doesn't change the fact that Zorn isn't doing the best he can with what he has, continually call 3 receiver 5 step drop plays with this line and receiving core is suicide. There has been little to no creativity and the few times there have been they've worked well yet not gone back to, ARE reverses have all been positive plays to cooley, thomas reverse for a TD, there has been no wildcat no direct snap to CP if ever there was a team better set up for it with now two successful division I college QB's on the roster (Hagans) its us. With our line and issues, ARE ought to have a run throw option play 4 or 5 times a game, not once every 4 or 5 games. Zorn has not adjusted his system or his stubbornness and has mishandled his players, that doesn't mean anybody else would have this team with 11 wins right now, but doesn't get him off the hook either.

From the Redskins blog:

“It happens,” Randle El said. “It’s part of the league, you know? You get a guy, you get a coach, flip a coin. It’s going to happen. And when it happens, you just hope they get it taken care of, and I know they got it taken care of.”

Asked what kind of distraction it would present, Randle El was blunt. “It won’t be one. We have too many leaders on the team, from Z-man’s standpoint he’s not going to allow the distraction, and Clinton — Clinton understands how important it is for us to get focused for this week.”

Convinced by Randle El’s persuasive words, the assembled media pack dropped the subject and started asking questions about Cincinnati starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Okay, not really — the questions about PortisGate kept right on rolling.

Jason Campbell’s take on the subject was similarly blunt — “It’s only a distraction if guys let it be,” he said — but he did reveal that the team captains had led a players-only meeting this morning, and that Coach Zorn had also spoken to the team.

This was exciting news — a players-only meeting about the Clinton Portis issue! — right up until London Fletcher clarified something. “Our players-only meeting wasn’t about Clinton’s comments,” he said. Then, after being told that most of the media was in the process of following that line of questioning, he made a general announcement: “That wasn’t what our players-only meeting was about.”

“Our meeting was about us and what we need to do as far as winning on Sunday,” he said. “State of the team, and how we’re just not where we need to be. Where we’re at in our season, where we need to be, and how we’re going to accomplish what we need to accomplish.”

“It’s about each man taking ownership of what he needs to take ownership of,” Fletcher continued, “and each man believing in what we’re doing as a team, going out there practicing as a team, preparing as a team, playing together on Sundays as a team, and we feel like we can get it done.”

actually Sween, Forrest was very good ... and very lucky ... to win that game. A lot of small things broke just wrong for me (an RB gaining 99 yards, a FG that hit the upright, a WR stopped on the 1 yard line).

I had DeAngelo Williams, he had westbrook. In total yards, westbrook had 11 more the Williams and they both had 2 TDs, but westbrook had 3 more FF points because of the way the yards were distributed.

by mishandled I'm referring to the now multiple media mishaps with Portis and Jansen and always blaming execution instead of taking responsibility. execution is fine and good, but the other team gets paid too, sometimes they are better than you and force you to not execute, in which case its time to get creative and tricky. If you can't line up one on one with your personnel and just beat somebody (which we obviously can't) then you need to play to your strengths as much as possible and keep the other team off-balance. What team has looked off-balance against us this entire year we lost to the rams, struggled against Detroit, Seattle, and the Browns!

romo against NY D or matt ryan against TB D (in a dome)??

Normally you'd think is a no brainer, but consider this. Romo last week: 6 pts. Ryan: 26 pts

help...

rc, you have it backwards. Why would Cowher want to come here??

I think he would be promised complete control. Does he get it? I dunno.

And Al, Zeke? You need to get over losing that fantasy matchup, it happens to everyone some time you know!!

Depends on what his choices are. Cleveland? San Francisco? Detroit? Seattle? There will be a lot of jobs open this year, but if this one were open it's likely to be the most attractive and would certainly pay better than the others.

rc, I think the team needs to stay the course with Zorn.

Cowher has a good gig going for himself with cbs...low stress, etc..

** Somewhat related FF Post **

Sorry RC. I thought I had it for you. Antonio "FrigginFrackin" Bryant? Who knew?!
Now you're relegated to the Archuleta Bracket.

Zorn just needs to learn this one little sentence for his pressers to avoid ever again having this problem:

"Every single swingin' soul is fighting his guts out up here."

And don't forget "everybody is super smart"!

AisforAdam, for me the no-brainer is Ryan. Romo and his receivers have been way inconsistent from week-to-week and the Giants should be on a snort after getting prison shower stalled against Philly at home.
