Berry-to-Redskins chatter is just that, source says
I just spoke with a league source and asked about all of this Eric Berry-to-Redskins' chatter. He didn't even take a second to think about it before declaring it a lie. He said the Redskins have floated this Berry talk in order to drum up interest in their No. 4 pick. The theory goes, if teams think Washington is sold on Berry at No. 4, they'll offer the world to the Redskins in order to move up.
It's not a bad play. As we've noted in this space, the Redskins have fewer draft picks than any other team, and no matter how much they like Trent Williams, Russell Okung or even Eric Berry, the best scenario for them might be moving down and adding a second-day pick in the process.
The source thought the Redskins would still be targeting an offensive lineman with that No. 4 pick, even if all the buzz today has centered on Berry.
