Redskins pick up draft picks in trade with Miami

Updated at 1:40 p.m.

The Redskins have traded their fifth-round pick -- the 163rd overall -- to the Miami Dolphins and picked up two picks in return.

Washington now holds the No. 174 in the sixth round and the 219th in the seventh. The first pick is the one the Redskins originally gave to Miami as part of the 2008 trade for Jason Taylor.

With that 163rd pick from Washington, the Dolphins selected Georgia safety Reshad Jones, who had 11 interceptions in three seasons for the Bulldogs.

Washington entered the draft with only four picks, fewer than any other team. The Jason Campbell trade brought in a future pick -- reportedly in 2012, not '11 -- but this pick at least helps them to build a deeper draft class.

ISO RB Dwyer/Georgia Tech for this next pick.

Posted by: dcsween | April 24, 2010 1:41 PM | Report abuse

#219 gets pretty close to Mr. Irrelevant. Dolphins probably figured they couldn't get much with it so deeked the Skins for their 5th. For all the news the Skins made pre-draft, it was a boring draft.

Guess we'll see just how deep this draft really is, eh?

Although I don't think we got enough for JC, at least this Front Office is getting picks for the future, rather than giving them away like the old!

By now we have learned that no NFL name is used more to garner hits or interest in a player than the REDSKINS name...

RE JC: Should have made it a conditional pick for next year if there is a draft.

I think they were prepared to let him walk , so anything is better than nothing. Water under the bridge now.

RE Fins: Did we get back the exact same pick we gave up for Taylor?

Hear, hear.

You need to swoon over everything they do; otherwise you're not a real fan.

Heck, three weeks ago the same folks were saying we couldn't question their moves because the draft was going to fix things.

Well, did this draft fix things?

Yeah, it's not all or even mostly their fault. They inherited an awful team with lots of holes.

It's a 3-year rebuilding process. But some of these moves make you scratch you head.

About the TE the 49ers just drafted, not the guy we picked 7 picks earlier:

Mike Mayock, NFL Network
182 -- 49ers -- TE Nate Byham

NFC West, watch out! The 49ers just added the second-best blocking TE in the draft. Byham, from Pitt, is an inline thug who will knock people off the ball and create space for Frank Gore and Anthony Dixon. Mike Singletary and Trent Baalke are making a philosophical statement about who the 49ers will be.

But he will have a serious chip on his shoulder!

OMG they drafted a tight end...it's over..it's all over....the fo sucks again...lets fire everyone...time to rebuild already...drafting a TE just blew any chance or EVER be successful again.

Some of you are wrapped a bit too tight concerning the team

yeah everyone, don't question the moves just shut up b/c the holy trinity of Allen, Shannahan and Synder are infallible.
How crazy are you guys for thinking that we need some Oline, FS and DB help!

Did ever occur to you that maybe just maybe...they have other plans for o line? off season is months from being over. Just because they didn't draft a o line or any other position that you wanted when you wanted it does not mean they are making mistakes.

How do you know that maybe they don't like anyone left at those positions or maybe later in the draft?

First Ive heard we needed safeties and Dbs...

I do trust the FO and I'm NOT going to judge them before they have had a year or two to rebuild the team. It's called patience..which you seem to not have.

i also believe that the the GM and the coaches know 100 times more about the game and what THEY NEED more than any of us. So yeah your right...I do trust the new FO until they show down the road they can't win with there moves. But we won't know that for a few years.

So far I haven't seen any off season moves (except DMc5) that impress me. My OPINION might not mean shti but it is my OPINION.

As far as the FS and DB's are concerned, if you watched the team you root for like i do. You would notice that LL isn't playing in the correct position (SS). Moore is coming along but some back up is needed. We have Horton and Doughty but both are better playing the SS position.
DB's are always needed...

This is a blog, right? We all talk out of our collective arses.

Cook and Capers in the last round, means 3 o-linemen drafted out of 6, not bad and I am sure we will get some UFAs too. Both guys are lighter for linemen, likely dudes that can get out and cut block.
22 (229) Redskins (From Patriots) Cook, Erik C 6'6" 318 New Mexico 2.0 --
24 (231) Redskins (From Eagles through Broncos and Patriots) Capers, Selvish OT 6'4" 308 West Virginia

The Giants just added two great players to their defensive line that was improved last year. Our offensive line can not handle them as it is now. Would someone please tell me why we didn't get Bruce Cambell since he dropped so far. Was he not worth any kind of gamble. He was the fastest, close to strongest, and he is large. We have the weakness on OL. Why not take him or the next rated Tackle available. There is no position on our team which is as important as improving our OL. Jason Pierre-Paul will run around any other Tackle on our team. With Campbells speed he may have been able to stick with him for the next 10-12 years. Every year that the Skins were successful we had an elite OL. We had good to very good WR's,RB's, and QB. When Denver was winning they had great OL's. OL is the differnce between a sack, stuff or first down, TD.

The reviews on Selvish say he is weak, 19 reps at 225, and cant handle speed DE's. We passed on Cambell for him. I'm not in love with B. Cambell, but his stats sure blow away everyone else. He was projected to go to the Raiders in the first round before the draft started. Maybe Flozell Adams, Fanacea or Gaither or Brown in New Orleans is on the wiah list.

Faneca or Brown would be a nice add...don't think Selvish is going to make it unless he is completely immersed in the new weight program. The TE drafted is probably going to be the next Mike Sellers - evidently capable of FB, H-back, etc.
Give these guys (the FO) some time to make this all work. I know we're all excited about the new stuff, but how many times in the last 15 years have we been excited about the new stuff??? Just let it play out.

Good for you, Lisa, you're right.
Another TE when we've already got one of the best..
Vinny Cerrato is looking better all the time..
Allen and Shanahan MUST GO..
