Reid and Maese assess the Redskins' draft needs

They're rarely in the office, even more rarely unattached to their Blackberrys, so it seemed like the ideal time to get Jason Reid and Rick Maese to analyze the Redskins' needs and their options in the NFL draft.

You really don't pay attention to anything do you? For the hundreth time, per the CBA, a player can't get an extention until a year has passed since his last contract negotiation. Please understand this and stop asking the same question over and over again.

"Ben should go to the Raiders"

Presently, I'm a redskins fan who admires the Rooney family.

Whereas most pro teams talk character, they live it.

They hire a young black coach to back up the idea that the Rooney Rule is something they believe in.

They trade the guy who caught the winning catch in the Super Bowl for nothing just because they don't want a druggie on their team.

They float their 'superstar' pervert quarterback for a trade as his character isn't exactly Terry Bradshawish, but more Homer Simpsonish than anything.

To the stillers, character counts, and they mean it.

And the fact they are willing to move talent that got them rings is proof.

And that makes this Keystone Stater jealous--and proud.

Posted by: MistaMoe | April 21, 2010 12:38 PM | Report abuse

Reid on Skins trading AH.
"Although the team denies it, we've reported it"...so that makes it so.

If that's how it works, "Jasno Reid is a fat bald cutting and pasting loser". Now Reid may deny it, but I am saying it...so that makes it so...one source said.

Okay, so morality aside, PIT getting rid of Worthlesberger is a huge mistake.

Colon Cowherd was spouting off about this and I agree. How often are you going to come across a 2 time SB winning QB that is so young. They stepped in it drafting him and it would be a bad business move to get rid of him for an unknown.

Maybe 2 proven players, but for draft picks. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I understand.

But when you have the legacy, rings, and image that goes with a professional sports franchise with six world titles, you're better off erring on the side of morality.

Otherwise, how do you expect parents to pay to come to games where guys they feel are losers are playing?

Too, poor player image is one of the biggest issues some league's, like the NBA, has.

If you are going to dismiss Vick, Jones, and others for poor character, then Ben and Santonio should go right out the door, too.

Playing pro ball isn't a right, it's a privilege, after all.

The entire city is up in arms and wants him gone, save the small percentage of mostly young guys who don't think he did anything wrong in the first place.

While i think the Rooneys would ship him regardless, the fan base being behind the "dump the loser" move doesn't hurt.

What is interesting to me is that a team would give up a top ten for him... yeah his talent is worth that, but he is damaged goods.

Williams and Okung could be excellent pros. Berry and Suh could be the best at their positions. Would you pass on a transcendent Lawrence Taylor or Ed Reed for a, say, excellent Joe Jacoby? We can get decent, proven O-linemen in trades by dangling Cooley, Haynesworth, Landry, Campbell and/or trading next year's 3rd/4th/5th picks, etc.). If you have the chance to grab a HOF, game-changing player (and will have to devote a significant chunk of your cap to paying him), you take him, then shore up your holes through trades. Everyone knows that the o-line is our Achilles heel, but it is rare that one drafts at the top and you have to shoot for franchise-making players when you do, not merely plug holes.

Tudor electric was great. Had one of those from the 40's, too. Not so sure an adroid app of those would work, tho... lol.

...it may be a bit like the 'fart' app.

"However, I do completely believe they are looking into trading him (BR#7)."

Here's the argument: how much value is there for a young two time Super Bowl winner who, if he screws up again, might get super suspended?

Worst, how do you sell season tickets after the trade?: you market Ben's, ahhh, ability to be a role model for sex addicts every where?

Is he worth the rams' 1st pick or the bills 9th pick?

Or is he not worth the trouble at all?

Or do you very publicly confront him, send him to rehab, make him confess, make him agree to in some way be a solid citizen who avoids clubs, bars, discos, and, alcohol.

You dangle him in trade chatta to give him the feeling that, "Hey, this game is a business, pal," then send him the Tiger Woods route of rehab and confessional and a major financial contribution to family and women's groups.

The final move let's you keep a valuable player who's been sent a serious warning from the league and the team.

After that, if he Big Ben screws up and f!ck his final chance, that's his fault.

And the pun is intended.

I could see the Skins trade taking place. The one thought I had is why trade back up to grab Williams. If the Skins stay put, they could still land either of the top the three OT or maybe look at Dan Williams and move AH for multiple picks if that's the plan.

Maybe they don't like Bulaga.

>>But when you have the legacy, rings, and image that goes with a professional sports franchise with six world titles, you're better off erring on the side of morality.>>

- I Agree with a minor caveat, 2 of the 6 and the most recent were with the guy you are ready to cast off for draft picks that you will spend more money on than what you are currently paying the incumbent idiot QB. Not to mention the length of time that passed between the 4th and 5th SB which only came once worthlisberger was drafted. These types of players do not come around that often.

>>Otherwise, how do you expect parents to pay to come to games where guys they feel are losers are playing?>>

- Unfortunately the public in general has ADD when it comes to this stuff as well as everything else we deem news worthy. This is the big thing, by the time next week roles around the talk will center around the draft and other football related issues not having to do with worthlisberger. Look at Tiger Woods. Huge story right, but who the heck even remembers what it was he did to make everyone hate him. The next idiot stepped up and took that spotlight. Someone will for worthlisberger also, and fans will continue to buy tickets and eventually jersey’s (but to a lesser extent).

>>Too, poor player image is one of the biggest issues some leagues, like the NBA, has.>>

- I agree, but BB has not changed that much in its popularity as far as I know.

>>If you are going to dismiss Vick, Jones, and others for poor character, then Ben and Santonio should go right out the door, too.>>

- I agree, but my point is what good is it doing other than satisfying the ownerships feeling of doing the right thing. We all know it’s the right thing, but in the end Worthlisberger will still get paid maybe win a SB, and if he is not an A$$ like Jones rebuild his image somewhat with time etc…The Rooney’s, the Steelers and ultimately the city will have lost the potential to reclaim another SB title in a reasonable amount of time by setting the franchise back at the most important position on the field so they can feel like they did the right thing.

>>Playing pro ball isn't a right, it's a privilege, after all.>>

- I Agree.

I just think it is a dumb move for them to get rid of this jacka$$

Thinking about that trade with the rams we had yesterday. I think the skins make out like bandits in that one. We only gave up minor pick position for a player.

Its nice to be on the Denver side of a Baily-Portis trade.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And you don't think Ben knows this? MistaMaroon. You think Ben needs a false trade rumor to set him straight? Oi
You'd think we are living in the 13th century to see how gullible some people really are. I bet you believe in God, too.

Detroit is cheap and prob doesn't want to pay for a top 5 pick....SO......

lets deal AH and Portis (their RB Kevin Smith is hurting after an ACL tear) for their 2nd pick overall pick (and get them to throw in a 2nd or 3rd rounder as well)

We take Suh and then either Okung/Williams.

bam!

So, since Detroit is so cheap, of course they'll be willing to pay 6.4 mil guarranteed to an aging, declining RB coming off of a season-ending injury. And since AH apparently couldn't even get us a 33-year old QB in return and other teams have reportedly been offering 2nd and 3rd round picks for him, of course Detroit will give us their number 2 overall pick, because they're morons. I want some of what you're drinking.

Wasn't Big Ben fined for writing PFJ (Play For Jesus) on his cleats? Any word on what he scrawled on his exposed junk while he prowled that nightclub?

Let's get this frickin' draft over. I'm tired of guessing, and reading other guesses, and the bickering over who's right and wrong. Just do it, and then start from there with the rest of FA and camp. GO REDSKINS.

Shanahan and Allen don't say much, which is probably a good thing, but I don't think its too hard to read them, and they just don't seem very excited about using a #1 pick to draft a tackle. Like many, perhaps most Skins fans, I hope we end up with Okung. I'm not sure why they seem reluctant to draft an O lineman. Does Shanny simply think he can "coach up" Heyer and Mike Williams into solid NFL players?

Wish the Skins would've waited on the Donovan trade, now that Ben is available we could've bagged him instead, he may be a scum bag, but he wins Superbowls.

the major difference between vick and roethlisberger is vick is black and was involved in dog fighting(a blood sport that whites brought here from europe along with bull fighting, and other types of warring be it people or animals)which he learned growing up and blindly following other peoples traditions and ways.roethlisberger rapes a black girl, guards that are with him allow it to happen NO charges against him by so-called white officials(whites can do NO wrong according to yourselves)..exactly like dred scott case a negro has NO rights that a white man is bound to respect 1857-to this day same situation exist. black robes, white so-called justice.
