Offensive Line Takes a Hit with Thomas Injury

A major concern for the Washington Redskins entering this season was the health of its offensive line - an area in which the Redskins have little proven depth.

On Sunday afternoon that unit took a hit, losing starting right guard Randy Thomas to a right triceps injury in the second quarter.

Thomas left the game with the injury early in the quarter and did not return. He was replaced in the lineup by third-year guard Will Montgomery (Centreville/Virginia Tech).
Entering the season, Thomas' healthy was cause for concern for an offensive line that tailed off late last season as they wore down and struggled with injuries.

Thomas, 33, had two offseason surgeries - one for a neck injury and the other on his knee - and the Redskins were cautious with Thomas in the preseason and training camp in hopes of keeping him fresh.

Thomas tore his left triceps in 2007 and missed 10 games with the injury before returning late in the season. He then re-injured the triceps and was placed on injured reserve.

Washington did not draft any offensive linemen early in the draft this offseason and entered the contest with just seven active linemen. Montgomery and tackle Mike Williams were the only reserves, while 2008 third-round pick Chad Rinehart was inactive along with rookie Edwin Williams and third-year lineman D'Anthony Batiste.

If this team were a band, they'd be "Jason & The Almosts". This is truly pathetic.

Offensive coach who doesn't know how to call plays, and a defensive coach that believes in "Bend but don't win" philosophy = Another non-playoff Redskins team!

Dear Mr. Synder: Screw You!

Just got home from the gym...didn't even bother to watch the game. 9-7 against the Rams...sheesh, I should have stayed home on this beautiful Sunday to watch this magnificant showing by the Redskins.

What a joke we are...thanks Danny...you've made my wife a happy person...I no longer HAVE to watch the Skins play...

Congratulations Danny...you horrible excuse for a general manager. Watching you and your giant ego get its azz kicked every Sunday, trying to compete with ACTUALLY KNOWLEDGEABLE front offices is the only thing I am enjoying about your reign of terror.

Keep passing up on OL you joke.

Skins got what they desered when they didn't draft a lineman with their No. 1 this year...it was only a matter of time before Thomas or Samuels went down with a serious injury. My guess is that Thomas tore his right triceps and is done for the season. I shudder at the though of Chad Rhinehart starting at RG againt the NFC East teams.

Thanks Vinny for the great personnel moves and Danny for your continued great ownership of the team.

Lack of depth on the OL is the team's weakness. If you're hating on Campbell, you didn't watch the game or understand what you were seeing. If Sellers doesn't drop that perfectly thrown pass, they go up 10-0, and get that elusive TD. Campbell looked good, and I liked his poise. If he didn't have anyone open, he ran effectively. If the OL paves the way for the running game better, especially in the red zone, things would have looked a lot differently today.

Week 8 Odds of the coach being...

3-2 Bill Cowher
3-1 Mike Shanahan
5-1 John Gruden

50-1 Jim Zorn
