This moving tale told by Jason Reid (in his best James Earl Jones voice) made me shed tears of heartfelt joy.

That is exactly what I am talking about, he has had the injury for two years it has not effected him at all, but now it is a major concern.

Posted by: kmdp4 | August 13, 2008 1:22 PM | Report abuse

the problem with the hammies is half the trainig staff and half the athletes. you will find not enought emphasis put on stretching before and after and muscle endurance.
Second usually when it is hot in the summer and early fall alot of athletes take stretching for granted because of the heat, they figure they dont need to warm up as much as they would if the weather was cold, but that is incorrect, you have to warm up the same as you would if it were December, the only thing that would change is the amount of clothes that you would wear.

NM CV

here is a interesting note on Madden 09.

"Brett" is easy to spell. B-r-e-t-t. "Favre", not so easily. But to review: F-a-v-r-e-. Not "Farve". If you're a football fan, you should know that. And if you're EA, you damn well should know that — especially because he's the coverboy! Reader Devon points out that Brett Favre's name is mispelled in the collector's edition menu in Madden 09. That's a pic of it right up there. Well, at least EA didn't put "Brett Favour".

I've been away, so sorry if I missed this chatter if it already happened, but does Mason making the roster mean Rock Cartwright is off? Not even sure that Mason would need to be the KR guy ... I recall that 2-3 of the draft picks returned kicks. If Devin Thomas has been dropping passes (and missing training time for the #3 WR competition), seems like he would be the guy to do KR.

Only if the element 'twit' could be considered to be in a positive state.

Otherwise, the correct term to use is 'anti-twit' emphasizing the equal and opposite nature to the element 'twit'.

This is most simply expressed as:

For f = 1 to infinity

f [dx/dt |t=0, x(0),0] = 0

In the sex life vs. love life continuum, Czarniak might be okay for the short-term (sex life) but Bonita is definitely a long-term (love life) prospect.

Earlier Carlos Rogers was brought up, can someone give me a clue on this guy. I can't fully figure out what we have with him. I've never forgotten that he was a top 10 pick, and for that I personally thinks he's been a near disappointment.
But yet I've read interviews and writeups saying that he had a solid game this and was playing a solid season that. WTF ??? Can someone give me the scoop on this guy. I know that CB is not the most glorious position and that most of the time you get noticed for what you didn't do or how you got burnt by so and so. So with that in mind I've tried to hold my judgement on this guy and be fair. 1st year he's a rook, so you spare him. 2nd year you say he's inexperienced so you put an asterisk by his name. 3rd year I would think OK no B.S. what you see is what you get. Does this mean that what we saw from Week 1 up until the Patriots game is what he have to come to expect from this guy, or is it too early still ? If that's the case do we hold judgement on him for all of 08' because of his injury ? Do we really have to wait until 2009 to know what we got for this 05' top 10 pick ? To me he seems like an enigma. I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks of this guy based on what they have seen in games ?

Posted by: Earl Sugarloaf III | August 13, 2008 2:39 PM | Report abuse

So far, not a top ten pick. But look at the other CB's taken that draft ahead of him.... so I would say he can cover solidly, man to man may be best b/c of his double move propensity... but the D we were running 2 years ago was suited to any, vs last year where it was man to man which suited all, especially with ST back there.

After the morning practice, Favre was saying his arm is fatigued....Given that he's thrown eight intercepts over five gaves (the first one in Atlanta didn't really count), that would seen to bode well for the Skins' secondary.

I believe pac man was the #6 overall pick, and I also think that Anrelle Rolle was taken at #8.

If you look at that draft graphic, you see A Rodgers went right before JC... so if GB hadnt picked AR we may have...the 2nd round CB's from that draft are garbage btw...

Posted by: Zebra | August 13, 2008 2:57 PM | Report abuse

Rolle was a flop as a CB. That is why Arizona is moving him to FS this season.

Posted by: Matt | August 13, 2008 2:57 PM | Report abuse

Kelli Johnson definitely gets my vote even though she's looked extremely mad each time I've seen her in person (Wiz playoffs and HoF this year). She'd be much prettier if she'd smile more.

Posted by: [cc] | August 13, 2008 3:01 PM | Report abuse

So what I'm getting off of this so far is that all the 1st rounders were a flop and all of the 2nd rounders were a flop. Taking Carlos we probably could have easily been worse off in 05' cause it just stunk for CB's that year. Right ?

Posted by: Earl Sugarloaf III | August 13, 2008 3:02 PM | Report abuse

ES3, I think Rogers is a decent corner, but he certainly isn't the difference maker the Skins thought he was when they drafted him. If he would stop dropping all of those interceptions...

Posted by: JinxMan7997 | August 13, 2008 3:04 PM | Report abuse

Oh, and we should've drafted Merriman instead of Rogers. Yes, I'm still beating that dead horse.

Posted by: [cc] | August 13, 2008 3:04 PM | Report abuse

The "Strawberry Shortcake" moniker I believe stemmed from Kelli Johnson's formerly red hair... looks more blonde in that current head shot, but she's a redhead.

Also, she smells like strawberries.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | August 13, 2008 3:06 PM | Report abuse

JinxMan7997,

I definitely remember us desperately needing to draft a CB that year too, I believe we ha just lost Champ the year before and we were hurting for another shut down corner. It's just sometimes I look at that guy and say to myself "man this guy might as well be a 3rd or 4th round draft pick". But from what I have been hearing about 05' draft for CB's it seems like we got what we asked for. I'm gonna hope for the best and cross my fingers that he learns how to use his hands when the ball comes his way.

Posted by: Earl Sugarloaf III | August 13, 2008 3:10 PM | Report abuse

Rolle hurt his knee his rookie season, had a little minor surgery that, lo and behold, revealed more serious damage and missed almost all of the season.

Posted by: Cindy | August 13, 2008 3:11 PM | Report abuse

Hindsight is alway's 20/20 3 years after a draft. Yes, they should have drafted SMerriman, however they didn't, so let it go.

Posted by: Greg | August 13, 2008 3:11 PM | Report abuse

Since Nate is here I'd like to hear what his scouting report is on Carlos Rogers.

Posted by: Earl Sugarloaf III | August 13, 2008 3:12 PM | Report abuse

The great thing is to look at 04 draft with ST. On wiki they highlight orange the probolw player. Mad numbers in that draft, esp 1st round. Then look at the years following... not so hot

Posted by: Zebra | August 13, 2008 3:17 PM | Report abuse

Ha, funny, that's funny, Earl (I love your name, by the way). As if I know anything about fubbal!

So of course here goes nothin': I thought Carlos was finally, finally coming into his own last season as a #2/#3 corner before the injury. I really hope he comes back and plays at or above that level. I don't want to have to rely on anybody behind him on the depth chart for any extended period of time... and I really don't want the Skins to have to play roulette on the cornerback free agent market or (yet again) in the draft next winter.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | August 13, 2008 3:21 PM | Report abuse

Rogers is a decent CB, but not a star. Good enough to start or play a solid role on most teams. The issue with Rogers is injuries. He's lost a lot of playing time, so his development has taken a long time.

As others have pointed out, Rogers rarely makes a pick and his tackling has been a bit hit and miss (pun intended). Bottom line, he hasn't set the league on fire.

He doesn't have much margin for error in his game. This most recent knee surgery is a major crossroads. If he recovers fully, he's a decent CB and will make a contribution. However, CB places a huge premium on speed and quickness. If Rogers is slowed by this injury even a modest amount, he's likely to be a poor CB and may need to be moved to a different position (ie strong safety). Which mean he will likely be gone when his contract expires.

Look beyond Champ and Jansen... there were nuggets of pure (burgundy and) gold throughout that draft: Randy Thomas, Lennie Friedman, David Loverne, Warrick Holdman, Pierson Prioleau, Kenny Wright, Derek "Hokie" Smith, Jeff Hall, Tim Alexander... the mind reels...

The Final 53: Our offense is healthy and stocked with talent. our defense lacks depth and has way too many injured players. Zorn will recognize this and give the defense 26 picks instead of 25. McMullen has looked good, but he's not worth a roster spot. Mix is always injured and can go on IR or the practice squad and no one would sign him. Cartwright is lose in a numbers game.

Man CB's are commanding sooo much dough on the FA market. Hears to hoping Carlos turns it around and recovers well from this injury. Solid CB play is a must !!

Maybe an extra WR for one of the LBs?

Posted by: Cindy | August 13, 2008 3:34 PM | Report abuse

If anyone thinks Rogers was "coming into his own" as a 3rd corner they clearly haven't seen any other team play football. There are few teams in the NFL where Carlos would not be starting. People wake up, he is a good player. He isn't one of the top ten in the NFL but he is, at worst, above average.

Which mean he will likely be gone when his contract expires.

Al Zeke,
Makes me think of Tom Carter ! I'm not sure if it was a contract expiration but he left town and not much was made of it.

TSH,

Like most of your list. I prefer Richardson over Tryon. I think that Tryon can last on the PS and get some development from there. Though I admit that it is still early in preseason to be pushing Richardson.

With the injuries that our WRs have had last year and so far this year, I think that we go with 6 WRs. Can't point to who on your list I would replace, but feel we need 6 WRs to cover injuries.

Posted by: Curzon417 | August 13, 2008 3:39 PM | Report abuse

Skins need a 54-man roster. Six WRs would seem to be a necessity with the Zorn offense....that's why I'm looking at LB.

"Strawberry Shortcake is a reference to the Comcast Sportsnet Skins beat reporter Kelli Johnson."

Thanks Zebra! Oddly enough, I've seen those people. Direct tv channel 629 shows a training camp show that splits time on the Redskins and Ravens at 6:30 and 10:30. At 11:00 there is a Redskins show but the tv gods are cruel & and as soon as it comes on my screen goes blank and says ha..ha... not allowed in your area!

Weird GA, they show trainng camp daily but not Redskins nation??? oh well, Larry michaels is the host of skins nation and is a douche... I only watch for images of practice and player interviews

Hi I'm skippy and I have a mental plate in my head and I really really love lemon Meringue Pie.

Skippy has just be infirmed with the fat that Jason Taylor has Planter’s Fartitis, which are an infatuation of the heel bone of the foot where it is attacked by the bottom of the ark. Skippy’s third cousin, twice removed (once forcibly) is a prodiatribist doctor, which is a doctor who specializes in the foots and other extremists.

Here was Skippy’s third cousin, twice removed (once forcibly) medical opinion. He prefers to remain anomynous because he doesn't want to be identified due to lawsuits and bounty hunters and a blonde named Shirley.

“Planter’s Fartitis can be caused or worsened when a previously injured footbone is used for dancing purposes. I have treated a number of tap and ballroom dancers with the condition, and one elephantine ballerina who really should go into another line of work. I mean this woman is a tub. Guys who had to lift her in her Pas de deux would blow out their elbow or strain their back just trying to get that wide load off the ground. You can’t train to be a Prima Ballerina at McDonald’s, you know? Furthermore…what was the question?”

Anyway, Skippy hopes this helped clear things down about the Planter's Fartitis..

Fondly,

Skippy

Funny how they praise the FO in that article for not having a big name splash. Do they know that we were offering a lot for Chad Johnson??? I still don't know why the Bengals turned that down but thank god they did!

idk truth, how nice would we look with 85 ARE and Moss as the starting WR's with Mix McMullen and or Trash as backups?

We might have looked for OL or LB depth with two of the 3 2nd round picks...

The Miz, I think we're in agreement... I just don't think Carlos will ever be the "#1 corner" on this team (and I don't mean "shut down corner" which is meaningless now, I just mean the best corner on the team) but I don't mean that in a way that denigrates his talent.

I DO believe he was establishing himself as a starter, and I stick by the term "#2-#3 corner" because both the #2 and #3 guys have to be GOOD for a D to work nowadays.

And I felt Carlos and Smoot were right there behind Springs. I counted on those three dudes and trusted them in nickel packages, and I hope that's what we see all season long.

Getting into real Captain Obvious territory here ("I hope our top three cornerbacks play all season long, and play well!") so I'll take a breather...

Cindy, I was thinking just like you as far as WR/LB.

Barno, I will gladly eat my words if Jansen steps it up. Though I am willing to state my fears and opinions from time to time. It puts me out for attack or correction, but that is no different than many on here. As opposed to those who just attack...

Love Skippy!!

***RI FANTASY POST***

Anyone think we should promote/relegate a few teams from Coat's fantasy league to Nate's, creating two sane leagues of 12 teams each? Do we even have the technology to do this, or would the universe plunge into chaos if we even dared attempt it?

***End Fantasy Post***

Posted by: SMACK | August 13, 2008 4:12 PM | Report abuse

I will say this, Barno has been right on every prediction I've seen of his. If memory serves, he posted a comment saying we'd still make the playoffs after that excruciating loss against Buffalo, when we were 5-7. I believe he also said the Giants would beat the Pats in the super bowl...how many of you gave the G-man a chance??

Give the grumpy ole guy his due, he has been right many times on here before.

curzon, i actually am borderline agreeing with you about tryon/Richardson. Infact, I just started a thread about that on extremeskins.com earlier this afternoon. For now, I'm about 50/50 on Tryon v Richardson but if Tryon has another poor week and Richardson continues to shine, i'm going to lean towards Richardson.

I understand the argument for 6 receivers, but I really think McMullen will still be available if something happens to one of our WRs and theres no way any team takes Mix from our PS to their active roster - he's simply been too unimpressive. If Kelly isnt 100% better by the 53-man roster deadline, I actually think we IR him and McMullen takes his place. I'm not worried about depth at receiver since we have Davis on the roster too. I can certainly see situations where Davis and Cooley are on the field and one of them lines up as a WR.

In the end, the only place I would take a spot from to make room for a 6th receiver is DE and I could see putting Jackson on the PS... but then again, he has been really impressive and I dont trust that he would last there. In the end, I'd rather have Jackson on our roster than McMullen if I had to choose.

My living room. Direct tv's NFL Sunday Ticket is worth every penny! Each week we have a houseful wearing burgundy & gold cheering and/or screaming at the tv. All we need is pizza from Marios and it would be like home again!

I had no idea there were Redskins bars in Atlanta. Where are they?

TSH, I just don't see them keeping someone like Geisenger over Rock Cartwright.

Barno, I also don't understand all the negativity against Jansen. Did Colts or Bills dominate our starting OL? Did people forget that top two back ups at tackle, Heyer and Wade, are currently injured? Reinhart is a very good rookie and can play tackle, but I would rather not see any rookie mistakes at the tackle position. I simply don't want to see JC carted off the field as happened last year after we lost Jansen and Thomas.

Cheyene's Grill in the Peachtree Battle shopping center off of Peachtree Rd. a couple blocks away from Piedmont Hospital.

And the Bucket Shop right across the street from Lenox Mall off of Lenox Rd.
Google the names and you should get the address. Hope to see you at one of em' it's a lot of fun about 15-20 people show up at both bars.

Hey, J.R.

Have you actually played the game?

Now, while plantar fascitiis is a MAJOR issue for DB's and [sometimes]LB's {backpedal pass-coverage thing}, for a mostly forward charging lineman, plantar fascitiis is just a RELATIVELY minor annoyance that one simply plays through by PURE adrenaline.

Quit being such an un-informed nay-sayer!

Signed, TJ
