RB Clinton Portis remains excused from OTAs. Coach Jim Zorn said he is very comfortable with Portis being away right now and that "it's the right thing for him to do." Zorn said it is not a medical emergency situation or anything of that nature, but is more of a "celebration."
DT Cornelius Griffin was also excused, but Griffin is expected back soon. Portis could miss a few more days.
Zorn said he still has not had any contact with absent CB Shawn Springs and at this point just expects to see him for the start of training camp. "People will try to use this against (Springs), but I'm not going to use it against him at all," Zorn said.
The Redskins are showering up now and then all heading to a nearby movie theatre for a special advance screening of the latest Will Smith vehicle, "Hancock." There are three buses and the requisite police escort awaiting the team - I thought that was more of a Gibbs thing but I guess it lives on - and you can probably guess who is doing the catering (as an aside did I mention how succulent those Five Guys burgers were at the Nats game the other night? Man, that is a tasty burger. Best in town).
Other than that it was a pretty standard OTA practice. The heat was an issue but thankfully there was a fairly steady breeze that kept you from wanting to blow your brains out.
Okay, three more OTAs left - Tues through Thurs- then it's time to shut 'er down for a while.
