Packers suffer a string of injuries

Sunday's game wasn't the only big loss for the Packers. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion late in the contest, and his status for next week is uncertain.

Details were scarce following the game. Rodgers was not made available to reporters. Of the injury, Packers Coach Mike McCarthy said only, "I think it was the one at the end of the game."

The Packers' final offensive play came less than three minutes into the overtime period. Rodgers threw an interception to LaRon Landry. On the play, Redskins' defensive end Jeremy Jarmon appeared to apply the pressure up the middle and might have bumped heads with Rodgers.

Rodgers was the last name on a long list of Green Bay casualties Sunday. Earlier in the game, Green Bay lost its top two tight ends, Jermichael Finley and Donald Lee, plus linebacker Clay Matthews and defensive tackle Ryan Pickett.

"I thought, as a whole, our football team was positive the way they fought through the injuries," McCarthy said.

Matthews seemed to think the cramping in his hamstring won't be a long-term problem.
"I don't think it's very bad at all considering what I've been through," said Matthews, who had 1 1/2 sacks Sunday and leads the league with 8 1/2. "I don't look to be out that long. I think, if anything, it is just a pull right now. We are going to be smart because we don't need another four-week setback."

Jarmon hit him cleanly ..The shot stunned him , causing him to call foul..Skins will need to be able to platoon players like Jarmon into the lineup, with the Colts next week, and no letup in severity of schedule for the rest of the year with the rise of Chicago, Tampa Bay, the Jaguars , etc., plus the usual NFC East suspects, Titans, etc... One game over .500 should get them into the playoffs..But, man, the ignorance of not shoring up the offensive line with a sched like this should be a double lesson to any lingering Cerrato dingleberry thoughts of not doing so to the FO...

as a matter of fact, it was really good body control and awareness not to get a penalty there. AND it was still hard enough to ring Rodgers' bell.

Mark Clayton out for year, but Rams don't want Devin Thomas
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 10, 2010 10:12 PM ET
The Rams have lost their top receiver for the season. Again.

Mark Clayton told reporters after Sunday's loss to the Lions that he will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. It's uncertain what his injury is. Clayton was only acquired from Baltimore to replace Donnie Avery, who tore his ACL at the end of the preseason.

St. Louis could use a wideout, which immediately led to speculation the team could be interested in recent Redskins cut Devin Thomas. Rams G.M. Billy Devaney, however, says that's not going to happen, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Laurent Robinson, Danny Amendola, and Brandon Gibson are Sam Bradford's top three wideouts now. Amendola had 12 grabs against the Lions for 95 yards.

Freakin A.

If the Skins keep knocking people out of games, then heck yeah we've got a chance to do something this season.

I don't know that GB's injuries were any more devastating than us losing our 2 starting tackles and having Anthony Armstrong working out cramps on the sideline in between plays.

Nice to see the zebras finally deciding to throw some flags in OT. I guess once they decided to get Woodson's sac off their nose, they could start seeing all the PI/holding more clearly.

Lorenzo Alexander is a beast.

'Girls lose...again...to go to 1-3....

...which makes Redskins Nation 2-0 on the day.

Sweet.

scamp- DT can't play. It's as simple as that, I said it in 2008 when they drafted him.

How about AA today and Moss having a career year...Although our WRs are so bad that CWood was on Cooley for most of the game.

Which only goes to show what a disapointment DT was and how anyone that is crying should STFU.

Our win notwithstanding, I like how the packers have built their passing attack around athletic tight ends and sturdy wide receivers who aren't fast, but have excellent hands.

AA has stepped up to where the big news this week might be him being named starter over JGalloway.

And the other news has to be someone explaining RWilliams' role in the offense.

Any word as to why DT was released yesterday and not Monday? I have not seen anything on that.

As the Skins' O was playing flat in the first half, I was thinking that perhaps players were dismayed, or bothered, or surprised by the DT move which lead to poor play.

Mcnabb looked below average in this game. Low and high throws all day.

Williams does play teams but does it poorly. I'd look for them to cut him this week and bring up Austin from the practice squad.

He's too small to help on team's coverage but offers more as a WR.

Need to get Davis more looks as a hybrid TE/WR even though he contributes on teams.

Having said that, I couldn't be more thrilled at how well he is playing in the new system. (although I can't remember if I wanted him cut or just benched and slapped around for being a knuckle head... doesn't matter I suppose)

Yeah, he is, CL.

Scamp, if you don't know who AMTTS is, then you just. Don't. Know.

(And my last post was about Carr [not] coming in. Bush league of me not to refresh before posting.)

And while we're at it how about some love for the unsung scout who screamed in the background as the REDSKINS announced their third round selection (KEVIN BARNES) two years ago, "NO, NO, damn it, GREG TOLER."

Don't blame the scouting department for missing on BARNES. BTW my man from tiny ST.PAUL'S COLLEGE and D.C. is having a hellova sophomore season for the ARIZONA CARDINALS

Through four games so far this season at left CB:

30 tackles, 3 assists, total 33;
1.0 sacks, 10 yards in losses;
2 passes defensed; 0 int.;
2 forced fumbles, 1 recovered fumble.

Wish we had him instead of KEVIN BARNES. And evidently at least one person in the REDSKINS scouting department does too.

BTW, where is KEVIN 'BLOW 'UM UP' BARNES?

Man that ball hit him right between the 2's too. Dude really needs to see an eye doctor.

As a MD grad and someone who played there I questioned that pick when it happened.

He won't be on the team next year.

Two butt-ugly wins in a row. It's a beautiful thing.

Couldn'tt pick a much worse week to have two starting OT's dinged--as next the 'skins go against the best DE combo, probably, in the NFL.

Can you say "Two tight end offense?"

DAMNED good win today sports fans.

Now if my ATLANTA BRAVES could just keep people who have some talent on the field and off the injury lists, we might win this WORLD SERIES thing.

BANKS IS WAYYYYYYYYYYY BETTER THAN DT RETURNING! ALMOST EVERY RETURN IT FEELS LIKE HE IS GONNA SCORE! I think he could be like Moss in the passing game if he can get on the field!!

WTF is roydell williams on the field for all i see from him is mistakes!!! Wish somehow we could have made the trade for Randy Moss but maybe that trade fell thru and dt got cut lol jk

I love how this team hits and hurts other teams!!!
This TEAM will continue to "gel" into the systems and get better as the season moves along! HTTR!!!!

Rodgers got dinged on an earlier play... during regulation. He was clearly dazed but made his way to the sideline. Now the Packers are trying to play it off like it was his last play... because as we all know a concussion means yer done for the day.

Jarmon's helmet grazed Rogers, but it was pretty much inconsequential. If he was truly fubared in the head, he could not have instantly started bleating for a penalty while Laron was picking the ball.

Great win yesterday, friends.

Once again, the Skins took advantage of a team that made dumb decisions that cost them the game. We're picking up the pieces of yet another close loss if GB takes the easy 3 points in the 1st quarter instead of going for the jugular on 4th and goal. Every bit as stupid as the play in the flat before halftime of the Dallas game.

For the 2nd week in a row, we beat a team up physically to the point that they had to resort to backups of backups to finish the game. At this point, I wouldn't be shocked to see another Packer get hurt on the plane ride back to Wisconsin.

At this point of the season, we're just trying to figure out what we're doing and ANY win is welcome. We would have lost a game like this a year ago, and progess can be seen in the fact that we're taking advantage of these gift games. If we luck our way into a 5-3 record into the bye week, and play as well as I expect us to down the stretch, I LOVE our chances of making the playoffs--and making some noise once we're there.

Damn it feels good to be a Redskin...

I would like to see some serious reporting about this concussion claim. I frankly do not believe it came on the last play of the game, i am absolutely sure it came before but they let him go back in. .... need some more info on this

Notice how the Skins are beating up everyone they play? Now if we can get CP and AH back we can really do some damage.

Posted by: ElYeah | October 11, 2010 10:44 AM | Report abuse

Rodgers concussion might've occured a possesion or two prior to that last play. It was the play when the defense FINALLY blitzed Fletcher up the middle and was joined by two other redskins and buried Rodgers for a big sack. Rodgers appeared to be a little woozy from the forearm shiver delivered by london.

Please blitz London up the middle more often on "obvious" passing situations, instead of dropping him back in pass coverage 30 yards down the field...good things can happen.

Jarmon did nice job of pulling up and raising his hands in the air...smart

I was wondering if all the haters, who talk about this guy was injured, this guy left the game for cramping..... Redskins would not have won if this guy was there...

Maybe we were just good enough TO KNOCK OUT THEIR PLAYERS!!!

Last time I checked, we had all but 1 O-lineman out at one time for that game.. Could someone please get Dockery back in??? How many times was Lichtenstunk get put on his can???

Whatever!!! Haters keep hating!!!
