Pierson Prioleau And James Thrash Speak (UPDATED)

Safety Pierson Prioleau just spoke. Before we get to that, Amy Shipley is reporting from Florida and she has chatted with family members who say Sean remains in surgery in critical condition. I am hearing the same thing from within this building. It's an ongoing situation.

Prioleau said:

"You never think about entering a team meeting as a football team addressing an issue that is way beiger than this issue of football. Just as a team right now, as an organization, it is bigger than football This is not just a member of the Washington Redskins, we're talking about a dad, a brother, a friend of ours, and that's where were at with this right now. Our prayers go out to Sean and his family, and that's where were at as a football team right now."

Coach Gibbs and a team chaplain addressed the team, Prioleau said.

Prioleau said the players received few specifics and details about the incident.

Receiver James Thrash, who has been training with Taylor to try to overcome their injuries, said:
"You come to love each other and treat eachother as brothers. You try to be a leader, but at the same time right now you're just praying to God for the best."

Like Prioleau, Thrash said the players were given no specifics of the medical condition.
"We haven't been told anything in terms of medical, we're just waiting and hopefully we're going to get some good news real soon."

Prioleau and Thrash are two of the spiritual leaders on the team and Thrash said there was already an informal prayer group among some players prior to the team meeting this afternoon.

Also, WR Santana Moss, one of the players closest to Taylor and a fellow Miami product, did not address the media, and I don't blame him for that at all. There's not much these guys can say right now other than to express their concern for Sean. WR Antwaan Randle El also declined to comment.

Screw football at this point. Survive it, Swoop.

Worry about coming back to the Skins later.

My thoughts are with him and his family.

This f'ing sucks. It's been apparent that Taylor has really made positive changes in his life and now for this to happen.

Thanks for all the updates and hard work JLC.

Posted by: kohastings | November 26, 2007 12:38 PM | Report abuse

I cannot express how much this sucks for Sean. I LOATHE that there is an undercurrent in the media outlets that seems to suggest that perhaps his past caught up with him. That is as classless as could be.

This totally sucks. Everyone at works knows I am a big Reaper fan. I was just telling my boss since he had his child he made some very positive steps in his life which stand much taller to me than the football. My prayers go to the him and his family.

This is so upsetting...

This puts life and football into crystal clear perspective.

Be Strong Sean, we're all pulling for you to revcover and continue to lead a healthy life soon.

THE PAST IS THE PAST.. WHOEVER SHOT HIM WILL PAY FOR WHAT THEY DID..EITHER IN KARMA OR IN COURT. RIGHT NOW EVERYONE JUST NEEDS TO KEEP THEIR MOUTH SHUT WHEN IT COMES TO SHI* THEY DON'T KNOW. EVERY FAN FEELS LIKE PART OF THIS TEAM AND NOW ONE OF OUR TEAMMATES IS SERIOUSLY HURT...

I remember being a kid when Magic announced he had HIV. I think I cried all night.

This feels like that all over again.

I think Jasno nailed it. Althought Taylor has distanced himself from his former "friends", you know there are some thugs down there who envied his success and resented him for settling down in life. It wouldn't surprise me if Taylor actually knew his assailants.

Posted by: smarty_pants | November 26, 2007 12:47 PM | Report abuse

That's what the media does. Talks about all the things you did in your past...but only the negative. They don't care that he has a young daughter. They don't care that he's made changes since her birth. They don't care that he's fighting for his life. HIS LIFE! Not fighting for a playoff spot or probowl spot. His life folks. Imagine laying in surgery, fighting for your LIFE and people are discussing all the bad decisions you've made in your life. How cruel we've become as a society. Who cares what he did in the past. Who cares where his house is located. Does that mean he deserves this? People act like they are all high and mighty and look down on others, judging them...I hope they never get in the situation where they need positive thoughts and prayers becaues every bad thing they're saying about #21 is going to come back on them. Prayers are with you Sean!

The original AP article brought up Sean's trouble with the law in the past. Really low class reporting on AP's part, is that really relevant to the story?

Posted by: sosborne | November 26, 2007 12:48 PM | Report abuse

PDiddy, you were right - I shoulda just kept my big trap shut. This doesn't sound like good news at all. Guh. Apologies and moving on to just pure good thoughts and hopes . . .

Posted by: stevie_in_gp | November 26, 2007 12:49 PM | Report abuse

I THINK WE ALL ENVY HIS SUCCESS WHO WOULDN'T AT 24 YEARS OLD WANT TO BE PLAYING FOR THE BEST NFL TEAM EVER. BUT THAT DOESN'T GIVE SOMEONE THE RIGHT TO SHOOT HIM

Posted by: jessie31202 | November 26, 2007 12:51 PM | Report abuse

This is just devastating news......love the Reaper. Sooo sad.

NBC4 just reported that he is in a coma...any news on that?

Posted by: Lisa | November 26, 2007 12:51 PM | Report abuse

Typical of the media to bring up 21's past. Anybody who follows the team knows he is a different man now, than when he came into the league.
Keep fighting Sean!

ONE THING IS FOR SURE I AM ROCKING MY JERSEY TO WORK TOMORROW....

Lisa,

Lets hope that is a false report.

Posted by: EinVB | November 26, 2007 12:57 PM | Report abuse

CNN is reporting Sean is in a coma out of surgery where they had to repair a transected femoral artery.

Posted by: ynotcaruso | November 26, 2007 12:58 PM | Report abuse

ESPN's report was the same way. They reported what happened early this morning, then followed it up by commenting on the trouble he was in 2 years ago. What jerks, come on Sean, pull through buddy!! You are in our prayers!!!

"it does not look good" - sean's friend from the hospital (CSN)

Posted by: dealer | November 26, 2007 1:00 PM | Report abuse

I was just on cnn.com and espn.com nothing about a coma

Posted by: jm220 | November 26, 2007 1:05 PM | Report abuse

Lisa, a friend of mine said he heard the same thing from a buddy at Redskins Park....I pray if this is true that it was induced by the docs...did Channel 4 say anything more?? Man I wish I was still in DC right now...I work from home but am in Cincy so no clue what local news is sayin

Posted by: lmgaffney | November 26, 2007 1:06 PM | Report abuse

I didn't mean ESPN had a report about a coma, just saying they brought up the troubles of Sean's past and that was wrong to do at this time!

Posted by: redryan400 | November 26, 2007 1:08 PM | Report abuse

where is NCICURN when you need him?? The part about the coma would explain why he's been in surgery for so long ... hopefully it is the kind of coma that is artificially induced (like they do for brain injuries). If he lost a lot of blood, and went into shock, the big concern seems like it would be loss of oxygen to the brain. Bad guy bullets nowadays shatter and go in lots of directions, which also could explain why the surgery has been going on so long.

Its been hard to concentrate this morning. Even though I have no personal connection to the guy (or more accurately, he has no personal connection to me), I'm worried about this as if he were a family member.

LOOK HOW OFTEN THE NEWS IS WRONG.. I'M NOT PAY ATTENTION TO ANYTHING THAT DOESN'T COME FROM THE REDSKINS

Posted by: jessie31202 | November 26, 2007 1:09 PM | Report abuse

Eye-opening detail from Miami Herald...

Retirees Pat and Jim Smith live in the house next to Taylor's. They said they heard voices outside about 2:20 a.m. and went outside to check it out. Jim Smith talked to a woman with a baby in her arms who he believes is Taylor's nanny. She said someone tried to break into the house last weekend and again earlier this weekend.

I agree sween...every time I see an update, my heart drops, like it's going to be the really bad news we dread hearing.

For the people who love you Sean, your daughter, your girlfriend and family, pull through this! The rest of us will watch and wait.

Some news media are reporting he was shot in the groin. We need an update JLC.

New post.

Posted by: Original_etrod | November 26, 2007 1:25 PM | Report abuse

I don't want to say too much right now since we don't have all the facts. I can't believe we as people have little regard for life...

I have faith that Sean Taylor will pull through this.

This is so distrubing.

Posted by: RedDMV | November 26, 2007 1:33 PM | Report abuse

Guys, I am hoping and praying with all my being that he pulls thru. But based on what I'm hearing, he is in really bad shape. 1) Coma, could mean many things but is obviously not a positive. 2) John Thompson had a friend of Taylor's dad on his radio show and he described it as a "grave situation" 3) His family has asked that no information be released.

I am not giving up and I know that 21 is not giving up and I'm sure is fighting like the warrior he is. But it doesn't look good. All we can do is pray and wait. God bless 21 and Hail to the Redskins.

Posted by: lmgaffney | November 26, 2007 1:33 PM | Report abuse

THAT CAN'T BE GOOD THAT HIS FAMILY DOEN'T WANT ANYTHING TO BE RELEASED
COME ON SEAN...PULL THROUGH THIS

Posted by: jessie31202 | November 26, 2007 1:37 PM | Report abuse

Even if he pulls through this, if it's true where he was hit, it may be his football career is over as well.....part of what made him great was his speed, and that kind of damage to his leg would be hard to overcome....I have a friend who was accidentally shot in the shoulder, and years later, despite great amounts of therapy, his arm has never been the same.....heres hoping he survives and makes a speedy recovery, but damn, we may have seen the last of #21 for the skins......what a damned shame.........

WELL AS LONG AS HE IS STILL ALIVE.. HE IS NOT REPLACEABLE BY ANY MEANS. BUT THERE ARE OTHER SAFETYS JUST AS FAST
