Clinton Portis appeared on the NFL Network and admitted that, during a game last fall, he asked for Mike Sellers to be benched. Dan Steinberg has the full transcript at the D.C. Sports Bog.

How is it that the Sports Bog regularly scoops RI on items like this? The Post really needs to rethink who it puts on the Redskins beat...the 'old' Jason REALLY sucked (way too much yakking about beer and his kids) and the 'new' Jason is often a day late and a dollar short. Compare this with what we get from Tarik on Capitals Insider - multiple solid posts EVERY day.

"...who cares? The whole team needed to be benched."

Actually, the CP apologists should be benched along with them.

I knelt down to pray for my troubles and sins, and then suddenly the following heavenly message was tweeted back by St Peter himself:

"Too many comments have been submitted from you in a short period of time. Please try again in a short while."

This is what I get for being both an atheist and redskin fan.

He is the first player who spent the bulk of his career with the Saints to be selected for enshrinement.

Jackson, who spent 13 years in with the Saints (1981-93) before finishing his career with the San Francisco 49ers (1994-95) where he earned a Super Bowl ring with the 49ers, will be inducted into the shrine in Canton, Ohio, birthplace of the NFL, in late summer.

"...Joining Rickey Jackson is San Francisco wide receiver Jerry Rice, Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith, Minnesota VIkings defensive tackle John Randle and Washington Redskins guard Russ Grimm."

don't know how reliable their news site is, but hopefully it's true!!!!

More proof that Portis is a great teammate, and truly a team-first player. [End sarcasm.]

I am sure the few remaining (but tenacious!) Portis slurpers out there will spin this incident as somehow being an example of his greatness. Good luck with that!

Bye bye, Portis. [Fork stuck into "Sheriff Gonna Gitchya's" costume.]

Anyone got any thoughts on acquiring Dante Stallworth once Goodell has reinstated him?

At last, a HOG has made the HOF. Congrats to Russ Grimm, now they need to work on Joseph Erwin Jacoby.

This Portis interview/story (video) was on the NFL Network 2 days ago..and discussed ad nauseum by posters on RI yesterday, including video links...... yawn.
Must suk to be scooped in your own paper.

Whats really missed is the inherent evil in this manipulation by Clinton Portis. Sellers calls him out for 3 games in a row... And Clinton calls him out..and uses his Snyder "aura" to get Sellers benched.
Pure evil... Send this guy who speaks of himself in 3rd person (see video) packing.. Its no coincidence the team morale and production improved when Portis was on IR.

Portis is a joke. The faster we get rid of him the better off we will be. He needs to go

This is hysterical. Portis has the IQ of a grape. When I was a kid I stole some empty bottles and returned them for nickels. When confronted I denied it emphatically over and over. BUT then, a parent of one of the other kids involved said' " Ok, but lets say you did do this- how would you pull it off?" I slid down the slippery slope of telling them exactly what we did realizing as I said my last few words that I wasn't very smart. Portis, as an adult gets walked down the same "no brain" path. LOL. You know he didn't want to admit that he was 1- a wimp, I cant call people out, 2- a baby, it isn't working coachy bench the other guy, and 3- a mental midget. Thank God for football and talent, b/c Portis would be a deadbeat dad somewhere working under the table folding jeans for a sweat shop. You can't destroy the English language like that and have a brain. The real controversy has to be in the transcripts at MIAMI. Bye Bye Portis.
