Portis Gets Treatment for Back Spasms

Jason Reid reports:

Running back Clinton Portis sat out practice today because of back spasms and his status for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles was unclear.

Portis experienced discomfort when he awoke today. He briefly joined his teammates on the field at Redskins Park before heading to the training room for treatment. In the locker room after practice, Portis moved slowly and struggled to bend. He has not missed a game despite the pain of knee, hip and neck injuries, but back problems are different, Portis said.

"My back just spasmed up," he said. "I was [sleeping], but I don't now how I slept. I woke up and just didn't feel like moving this morning. It feels better when they [trainers] rubbing on it, but that don't last long. As soon as they stop, it starts back hurting."

Although Portis is third in the NFL with 1,337 yards rushing, his production has declined significantly during the second half of the season. After rushing for at least 120 yards in five straight games, Portis has topped the 100-yard mark only once in Washington's 1-5 slide. He has rushing averages of 2.0, 2.9 and 3.1 yards, respectively, during the Redskins' three-game losing streak.

"When he woke up, he had a kink, and he's working out the kinks," Coach Jim Zorn said. "It would have to be pretty severe for him to [sit] out" against Philadelphia.

Portis was scheduled to undergo massage therapy and consult a chiropractor today. "Everything they can come up with, we'll just try," he said. As for Sunday's game, "it's two days from now, we're looking forward to it," Portis said. "If it's bad, it's bad. Hopefully, it'll be all right."

Smack from Giants, Pats, Dallas fans we gotta take. But not some lame-a$$, Cincy-tying, non-Superbowl winning, annual choking, find some way to lose, Philadelphia bozo.

And anyway, haven't you got better things to do? I'm sure there's a Santa somewhere needs booing,

The only thing your city has ever won is in baseball, and nobody cares about baseball.

Zorn knows this only because Thursday night is the nigh Danny has his weekly mandatory BFFFs (Best Front office Friends Forever) and VIP (very important players) slumber party in his back yard, he sets up a giant tent and has the butlers move a bunch of triple bunks in there, Danny always takes the top bunk and the poor guys below him always wake up wet in the morning for some reason.

"Portis Gets Treatment for Back Spasms"

"Back" Spasm Symptoms
1)when your running back throws his O-line under the bus to the media
2)when your running back talks about splitting ties with a team b/c he sits out a half
3)when your running back dresses up like a tranny for media interviews

I'm glad he's finally getting treatment...

Yeah, and what will you say when Kolbe is the QB when McNabb comes to Washington? With Snyder you never know, anything is possible. And that is one player worth doing the free agent thing for. Start shaking in your boots dude.

Oh I could see
McNabb here in DC
as our Backup QB
to JC
in a year or three.

Philly also won Rocky I through whatever...don't forget that victory.

When your city's greatest sports moment is a fictional movie starring Sly Stallone and your team enters the field to scenes from said fictional movie, well, it just makes me smile and realize that we're doing ok for ourselves.

Just start the back who doesn't lose key fumbles. That's right; that's none of them. Maybe Rock, who is the only one who looks inspired out there.

Stop with the Ladell Betts stuff, already.

Betts had ONE very good year, where he gained more than 1,000 yards. One out of SEVEN.

His second best year? 371 yards. Third? 338. He has a grand total of eleven touchdowns rushing in his career.

Receiving? He’s scored exactly three times on pass receptions. Aside from his one great year, the most balls he’s ever caught in a season is 21. That’s 21 catches in 16 games.

Including his great year, his average yards per game rushing is 32.3. His average yards per game receiving is 14.

Second round draft choice. And except for 2006, he’s always been ineffective or injured or both.

I take it back Cork

Cork, your an idiot.

Posted by: TheTruth11 | December 19, 2008 3:11 PM | Report abuse

Betts isn't a very good change of pace back. He needs a few carries to get warmed up, but he usually never gets there.

What if we put Byron Westbrook in there? He's always doing such a great job of "imitating" his brother in practice, supposedly. Let him imitate him in a game.

I agree why not give LBW a shot at RB? If CP is hurting and all.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Vinny Cerrato, owner Dan Snyder's hand-picked director of player personnel for the Washington Redskins, was fired Tuesday by new coach Marty Schottenheimer.

No long-term replacement was named. Veteran scout Ron Nay, who has been with the Redskins for five seasons, will be in charge of the NFL draft in April, and the position will be re-evaluated at that time.

``As I said when I joined the Redskins, all aspects of the football organization are under review,'' Schottenheimer said in a statement released by the team. ``We've determined this is the best direction for the Washington Redskins.''

Steinberg posts about the stripper pole in his basement the same week we learn of his back spasms? I don't believe in coincidences.

Suddenly, I'm not so excited about seeing the next character/costume Portis has lined up.
