Practice

Randy Thomas (out for another few months at least with his torn triceps), Mike Sellers (heel) and Antwaan Randle El (hamstring).

We'll have to wait until after practice to see how much work Phillip Daniels (shoulder) and Santana Moss (groin) took. But they were in pads and participating in the early stages of practice.

redskirt, sorry about that, the tone didn't come out right. Talk about whatever you'd like (as if anyone could even control that). I just used your Dallas-NE intro to set up my (recycled) joke about Brady being second to last (behind Travis Henry) in contraceptions.

Posted by: dcsween | October 10, 2007 2:55 PM | Report abuse

There's something good about seeing Randy Thomas on the injury list, because it means we as an organization have hope that we'll be playing meaningful games when he is ready to come back. I mean, sure it's weird, but there is something very cool about that mentality.

For redskirt ... the tale of the tape of two 5-0 teams: Pats beat Jets, Chargers, Bills, Bengals, Browns. Cowboys beat Giants, Dolphins, Bears, Rams, Bills. Doesn't seem like either team has been challenged anywhere near what they will face this weekend. I'm thinking the more complete defensive team (which will now include Rodney Harrison) has a leg up ... like a dog at a hydrant.

Plus it's a meteor bowl, so at least one of them will come to us with a big ol' L in their record ;)

I never re-examined the Pats record this year. Back when they beat the Chargers everyone thought San Diego was going to repeat their 14-2 season. You're right...that game looks a little more cupcakish now.

Wondering whether Sellers doesn't deserve a few days off (not to mention the time to recuperate after scoring twice on that same bad heel). If Moss can come back, that takes some pressure of Saunders to figure out who the third receiver down the field needs to be. That pass where Sellers fed lumber to Kenoy was almost twenty yards, wasn't it? [Maybe not 20 from scrimmage, but 20 from Campbell's drop.]

Another thought ... not to deny Thrash his props for that punt return, but maybe Lloyd could return punts. He seems like he should be fast.

The only problem with Receiver, The fielding punts is he has a tendency to drop the deep balls. One a brighter note if Moss is healthy and ARE is not I could see Receiver, The stepping up this Sunday.

Posted by: Forrest | October 10, 2007 3:22 PM | Report abuse

mile high, I'm just saying that, if he and ARE got the same contract, and the Skins were planning on the money spent on ARE to be money spent on a punt returner, then some of that money should be returned in the form of time on the field. [and he's never going to be on the IR if he's never put in harm's way]

sween - I see your point, but I fear the play leading to his being put on IR would most certainly be critical and lead to an opponent's TD. Perhaps they should move him to wedge buster on kickoff. Or, blocking dummy for #45

Posted by: mile high | October 10, 2007 3:26 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, now that you mention it, why the heck isn't Lloyd returning punts? Would that be too uncomfortable after the 'personal punt protector' shabingus last year? He has to be faster than Thrash... nothing against Thrash, that was a hell of a return and fumble.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | October 10, 2007 3:28 PM | Report abuse

Anyone have any guess what Jasno means by "a few more months at least" for Randy Thomas? If by "few" he means 3, that would put his return no earlier than January (after the regular season) and I can't believe they would keep him active if that were the minimum time table. I thought it was reported as a recovery of at least 10 weeks from the date of the surgery, which I think would be November 28th.

4-12, you are the KING of newslinks. Is this part of your day job? To find stuff like this?

Mike H., I think what Jasno means by "a few more months at least" is that neither he nor anyone at the Park has any idea HOW long its going to take to get Randy back. That said, Fabini seemed like he held down the fort OK last week, so I hope they don't rush Randy back sooner than he's ready.

Posted by: Dik | October 10, 2007 4:00 PM | Report abuse

4-12 -- now thats a video I'd check out!!! Would make sense to have someone other than ARE returning punts given his workload at WR. Thrash is probably the right guy. Though he did fumble the ball once already and has only about 5 touches all year. Rock would also make sense.

Skins have a tough 3 games coming -- might be the toughest stretch on the schedule. 4-1 GB, 3-2 AZ(?) and 5-0 NE. Thats 12-3 overall, with 2 games on the road. Win 2 of 3 and the Skins are in very good position. Win 1 and we're in the hunt with everyone else. Beating GB would be a huge step.

to me, it's not so much the record as it is - how do you match up?

Obviously - New England is a NIGHTMARE waiting to happen, but as Buffalo clued us w/ Dallas - Dallas will clue us to New England.

Do you remember the "Philly Sound" that was so big for a while in the early to middle seventies? Well, what you may not know is what happened to those guys after they were famous...

Well, Barry White is still famous, but the Detroit Spinners were on the skids for many years until they founded their own yarn company. The Hues Corporation started work on their own patented technology for stabilising ships, sold under the slogan "don't rock the boat baby!", but one of the most heart-warming stories of all was the Chi-Lites.

For several years they fought a collective memory problem, having forgotten where they'd left their wives after every concert
("Have you seen her?"). From there, they started drinking and eventually hit rock bottom. It was only through the faith of an anonymous benefactor who'd been a fan in their hey-day, that they were able to
make a comeback running a fast food restaurant. It served only one meal, chicken and peas with gravy, but everyone in the area said that it was the best around.

After some months, a journalist came to interview the guys to find out what the secret of their success was. He found that they put it down to the quality of the peas, which were sourced from a local Mexican contact called Manuel.

The journalist then went to speak to Manuel to ask him the secret of these fabulous peas. Manuel explained with pride that the peas were picked early in the day by his brother Jose, canned, and then
straight-away they are dispatched via same-day UPS in special sealed packages to the Chi-Lites restaurant in Philly. This means that the peas are still fresh when used.

"So, if I could sum you up", said the journalist, "the secret of this
terrific new restaurant is:"

"Jose cans new peas, by the dawn's early light, that so proudly he mails, to the Chi-Lites fast eat-in"?

dcsween,

You could be right. I'm sure nobody does know how long it will be. But to say "a few more months at least" suggests it is a MINIMUM of 3 months from today. If that is true it makes the front office seem like fools for not putting him on IR. I hope it was an exaggeration or a careless choice of words. Fabini has been impressive, but he is no Randy Thomas.
