Sounds like Vinny does a good show....hEY i have an idea, give Vinny control of the Radio division of Snyder enterprises. He can do 1-5pm, five days a week and knock himself out programming!

and thusly leave the Skins FB duties to Morocco Brown or some other FB executive on the rise!

Thank goodness Jansen isn't practicing. Let the reps go to the youngsters.

Another entry for the stupid list

4. have a radio show that is hosted or co-hosted by a NFL GM and talk baseball..

STUPID

Why is vinny talking baseball, who cares the only reason people tune in is to see if you are going to give some info on the skins.

I know the nats made an offer. Something ive been saying they needed to do for months. Im just pointing out the fact that in the media's eye the team with the most money on the table is possibly the least likely to land him.

You have got a better chance of God coming to you house tonight for dinner, then the Nats do of getting Manny.

Besides another right handed hitting outfielder is not what the Nats need.

Posted by: Flounder21 | December 12, 2008 11:34 AM | Report abuse

F manny that would be the most pointless move we could make. Hey lets get a terrible fielding outfielder with a horrid attitude and throw him on a team with far to many outfielders of a very impressionable manner. That would work out great for em.

quick Redskins Park question...

I imagine we'll get a bubble in the near future despite Gibbs & Co.'s dig on "Redskins weather", but why in the world do they still have an artificial turf practice field...?

no team in NFL uses the surface anymore as fieldturf has taken over...is it better to use during bad weather when grass fields are torn up?

Looks like 'skins fans Barack'd the vote this year. Just like the presidential election, you now have a lot of sick-in-the-face-haters...

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AnRM7cPebro5iLKP4zBcLE45nYcB?slug=cr-redskinsfanvoting121108&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

“I don’t think it’s done right [even now],” said the Chicago Bears’ Lance Briggs, who finished behind a couple of Redskins at outside linebacker. “I think each fan should be entitled to only one vote. I look at it like I have to count on the coaches and players to get in. That’s why it’s a two-thirds vote [for coaches and players].”

Added Atlanta Falcons defensive end Jon Abraham, who finished third at his position ahead of Washington’s Andre Carter: “At the end of the day the coaches and the people who watch the film – the players – they see it. We watch the film on people. We know what’s going on. We see a lot more than the fans do.”

Even though I find it funny, I can see how alot of these guys are pissed, they have incentives in their contracts and some are granted if they make the pro bowl.

I say the most funniest vote of all has to be Shawn Suisham getting votes... statistically he's the worst kicker in the league.

LOL - Still bitter about the way Manny dipped out of Boston?

The Nationals can sign Teiexria and dig up some the corpses of the Old Washington Senators squad, and they'll still suck to high heaven. That is an awful team - NO PITCHING. The crap Jim Bowden was trying to run by the fans - you know - "we're building our farm system, we're going through a youth movement" gar-barge, simply wasn't working. THAT is the only reason why they're making a play in free agency.

That team should've never been brought here. Someone made a good point about how you can't take a sport away for 30+ years and expect fans to in to it. Especially that sorry product they trot onto the field?

Yeah right.

It's a shame because I'm a HUGE sports fan, but you'll never catch me at a Redskins game at FedEx (Too expensive, and the product isn't worth it), The Wizards - THEY SUCK (see: BOS: 122 WASH: 88), and the Nationals simply aren't worth it - no history around here, so I can't identify with them at all.

I asked a couple of people about Hockey, but no one was willing to explain the sport to me. As I said that night - hockey is all D.C. has right now, but most people don't follow it around here, I know I don't. It wasn't a sport of choice in my neck of the woods, and I only recently picked up an interest in basball.

I would follow the sport more if I knew more about it, but then again...

It's just something about a bunch of white dudes chasing a black figure with rage and sticks, that is a little unsettling to me.

They said they would build through the farm system wait 2-3 years before any major FA aquisuitions. Well its 3 years now and this is their bif FA. I see no reason why they cant be doin good things a year or two from now if they stick to their inital plan, which they have.

DMV - The Nats suck because they placed in an owner from the 'Good 'Ol Boys' Network (if you know what I mean). They didn't even have any minorities in the ownership group even though that was a requirement. That's when they went and fetched JB......

For all those that bagged on Marion Barry, he had the best owner in place who cared about the city and was willing to spend money and contribute to the city (Former minority owner of the caps, I forgot his name).

But he wasn't a good 'ol boy......

Now the DC residents and the DC City Council are bending over and taking it in the SJK.....

** Then the G-men rip the freaking heads off the Cowboys...34-14. All while TO gets 1 rec for 6 yds. And Jason Whitten get 8 for 120 and 2 td's. ( I can't decide if I want a blowout loss or TO to drop a pass in the endzone with :43 left.)

Walker went off about the lack of a bubble.

Posted by: CindyBoren | December 12, 2008 12:10 PM | Report abuse

Red;

Hockey is a pretty great sport. Even better to watch in person. Cooley talked a little about it after Ovechkin (our best player and league MVP) came to a skins game. He returned the favor.

Think basketball/indoor soccer (for skill with the puck and shooting) then think football (in a confined space with boards for you to hammer guys into) all on skates.

That is hockey.

A little like Lacrosse since you can go behind the goal.

1 center
2 forwards
2 defense
1 goalie

I suggest you give it try. You will see the resident tough guy, Mr Donald Brashear, black canadian beat the hell out of some body. He is on the checking line - aka the tough guys. There are 4 lines that sub in and out as the game goes on. Shifts, as they are called are usually 2 mins to 2:30.

Then if someone gets a foul, he leaves the ice for 2 minutes. Then youve got a power play. 5 on 4 where the team with 5 keeps it in their 'zone' (think of it as the redzone) and they bomb away. It can eve go 5-3, 4-4, 4-3 or the dreaded 3-3. Not usually tho. You will see 4 on 4 and 5 on 3's much more that the other 3.

So there is a skill line, or the top line. Another semi skill line behind them. Energy line, less skill but faster than the checking line, then checking last. But sometime a coach will start the game with their checking line to set the tempo.

Usually the frist and second line get about 2/3rds the ice time and the other two lines share out the 1/3 thats left.

Powerplays usually feature one Defenseman and 4 offenseive players. Sometime you see the short handed goal which uis when the team of 4 scores on the team of 5. Fun stuff (except when it happens to the good guys).

If a guy has a clear route on a breakaway and is fouled, penalty shot. if the game ends in a tie, it goes to sudden death 5 minute period. then pentalties after that if no winner. 3 guys are guaranteed to shoot in a PS. And if the game goes to OT, a win is only worth 1 pt instead of the full two.

That about covers it.

Stu27, are you one of those Nat fans who pisses and moans because you feel no one respects the Nationals?

Look dude, me ripping the Nationals has nothing to with some rookie WR's and everything to do with the fact that the Nationals - you know the team that plays a rock throw from the most notorious housing project in D.C. - SUCK.

They totally regressed from the '07 season. They were actually over 20 games WORSE THIS YEAR than they were the previous year, so please don't give me that building the farm system crap.

Like all teams in D.C., with the exception of Ted Leonsis (Man I wished he could buy all the area teams - I really dig his style, he'd be a great owner), they have terrible ownership/management.

Dan Snyder - Doesn't have a clue, meddlesome, and refuses to hire a GM - that alone is laughable.

Abe Polin - Clearly is stuck in the 70's. Won't hire anyone outside of the organization (A REAL COACH) and will not go over the luxary cap/tax to bring in some legit ballers - becoming the Al Davis of basketball - senial and hanging on waaaay past his prime.

All i said is that the team is doing exactly to a T what the FO said they would be doing and i do think its heading in the right course w/ a player like Texeria.

Tell em this then Einstein, if they are so concerned with building up that impressive, Tampa/Flordia like farm system, then why haven't they had one of those youngins come in and put up SOME numbers - not game changing, but SOME?

You're doing a nice job of being a blind, naive, bitter homer. It's a FACT that no one gives a damn about the Washington Nationals in the DMV - the attendance and TV ratings speak for themselves. You're just one of those poor saps who couldn't wait for baseball to return to D.C. - and when they started to play like the Montreal Expos - after their inaugural season in '05 - you threw on your diamond shaped shades and tried to front like this team isn't awful. Dude they'll suck again in '09 and until they get COMPETENT ownership/managment.

There is a trend here in D.C. if you can't tell, stu27. But you keep rockin they gray diamond shaped shades though, homie.

No doubt RED, there are some things that may confuse it when watching, like why there are so many whistles. if you know about soccer, than you know about offsides. In hockey the offensive zone is marked by a black line.

Any player that goes into that zone has to preceded by the puck.

So ucsually the puck carrier will be the first in. But on hockey skates, turening and stopping are not as easy,s o they get an offsides.

the only other confusing rule may be icing. If a defense throws the puck from their defensive zone (the opposing teams offensive zone) to the other zone without one of their palyers tocuhing it in the middle zone, the play is halted if the team that did not throw the puck touches the puck. hence icing. the puck has been on the ice a long time wo anyone touching it. pretty comical name.

If it is 'touched up' for icing, then it comes back into the defensive zone of the team that iced it for a faceoff. So it penalizes a team that is just trying to get the puck away from their end by bringing it back to that end.

Other pnealties are

cross checking- two handed stick clothes line

hooking - using the blad of the stick to impede another player

slashing - just what it csounds like. they usually go for the exposed area of the wrists where the glove doesnt alays meet the arm guard.

high stick - bringing the stick above your waist for any non-shooting motion.

roughing - hitting a player in the open ice who did not just previsouly get rid of the puck or never had it

boarding - when a player is along the boards and a person 'checks' them into the boards with their back to the checker (hence checking line aka tough guys)

tripping, elbowing, fighting etc are all self explanatory

You sound very bitter towards the whole thing, did they knock down your piece to build the stadium or something. And ill try this once again investing in your farm system dosent mean that you throw them in the fire prematurly. We are sill rated as one of the top three farm systmes by most.

Springs my fragile little china doll.
He is like Roger Dorn in Major League, he isn't going to do anything to jeopardize his future earning potential after football, like actually playing.

I should remark about offsides. It is the offensive player that has to preceed it. A d man can sit there all day.

Offesnes try to 'rush' up ice. i.e no one cherry picking at the line waiting for the puck carrier.

The 3 offensive players usually get the puck at their own black line and do cross over or other types of moves. the goal is to get puck in first followed cloesly by every other offesnive player. sometimes the go right at the goal and shoot, some times the 'dump in'. Either to change a line or go to the boards and scrum for the puck.

On a dump in, the offensive guy gets the puck over the line, usually when he doesnt have a head of steam. once the puck is in all other players can enter and touch it without being offsides. So a 'gunner' will come streaking up the boards on a dump in to try and get the puck below (behind) the goal line. then they can set up a different type of passing offense from their to get a shot.

Also on boarding, the player who gets hit is not facing the hitter, but he is usually turned towars the boards, so he gets blasted face first, or head first, into the boards.

But this is why it is better live. it all so up close and so very fast. controlled chaos at its best.

Let me explain to you, we're actually playing IN the Capitol One Bowl, so unfortunately we can't BE the Capitol One Bowl. But you're getting close, keep working hard.

Hey Flounder. Realistically, if Vin were to get canned who are the legitimate choices for GM if Danny Boy would actually permit the tried and true path of NFL FO management?
I mean real football men with great track records that may be able to make an instant impact.

From the Times:

Right tackle Jon Jansen just told me that not only won't he play on Sunday at Cincinnati, he won't even make the trip, staying home to rest the left knee he sprained last week at Baltimore.

"It swelled up on me pretty good," said Jansen of the knee's reaction to his limited practice on Thursday. "It stiffened up so this won't be the week I get back in there. Hopefully, I can get the swelling out and get back next week."

Defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin's abdomen is still so painful that he didn't practice on Friday and he likely won't play Sunday. Kedric Golston, who has his own problematic ankle, will likely replace Griffin. Safety Chris Horton, who missed practice all week with a sprained right shoulder, is also doubtful. Mike Green would start if Horton can't play.

although we're in the midst of a playoff push..I've heard sides for both drafting based on need vs drafting based on best available...any thoughts as to which is better?

You have to address areas of extreme concern with the draft. Conversely, if there is a player that was projected to go high but has fallen to you on a silver platter, that is a tough call. But if you are stocked at WR and need a DT, don't take the WR with your pick just because he is the best avaliable. You draft the best possible player in your position of need with your pick.
