Practice One-Liners

Jason Reid reports:
Defensive end Andre Carter (foot), middle linebacker London Fletcher (foot) and defensive tackle Kedric Golston (bone spurs) did not practice.... Linebacker Alfred Fincher returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday for personal reasons.... Strong-side linebacker Marcus Washington (high-ankle sprain) is wearing a brace and has already been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Season is on the line this and and of the next weeks. Our offense needs to man up and score some points. I think our defense will be ok through the stretch. HAIL!

You sure about that? I just heard Zorn say on the radio that Marcus was getting better and that we'll see where he is at the end of the week before we determine his status for Sunday's game.

i think if the skins go 10-6 it'll be a success. but nothing less. reason for that is obvious...they woulda finished the season 3-1. but if they go 2-2...having gone 1-3, that not good season!

Not sure what there is to apolgize for. You've probably forgotten that Taylor sprained his right knee in a pre-season game. He's never been fully healthy in a regular season game for the Redskins.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | December 4, 2008 5:20 PM | Report abuse

Let us not forget that any first year offensive coordinator (and head coach in our case) is going to encounter a learning curve when implementing a new playbook and philosophy. I think Zorn has had much success given our record and his reliance on rookie WRs (one who hasnt really even played yet). Making the playoffs this year would be huge....and next year we are going to be even better. HAIL!

It never ceases to amaze me the ignorance, immaturity, and outright stupidity that some people display on these Redskins message boards stuff that has nothing to do with the Redskins or the topic but anyway I guess thats indicative of our society these days. Anyway I hope these guys can get healthy enough to play Sunday night we need to win outright to get in the playoffs. Also Shawn "China Doll" Springs needs to retire at the end of this season his body cannot withstand the rigors of football anymore, same with Marcus Washington.

Nate, I've been trying to find a beer that has some sort of association with the Skins, but have had no luck, so I'm thinking if I target the opponent, I might get a better result. I've had a 3 Ravens beer once before, and they're pretty darn good, so I at least know my taste buds will be refreshed during the game! I might go for the 3 Ravens 55, which is an American Pale Ale. 3 Ravens Interceptions AND Fumbles, lead to 55 points! Works for me!

Posted by: kost52 | December 4, 2008 5:34 PM | Report abuse

I am fine with Shawn Springs...he is a shut down corner. Unfortunate about the injury but crap happens...lets just hope he is in position to gets us over the hump here in the last 25% of the season.

Posted by: MexiMike | December 4, 2008 5:37 PM | Report abuse

The WaPo Live crew just said that our defense will win or lose this game for us. Said we will not be able to score on the Ravens D so will need to get to Flacco and hopefully create turnovers. Of course, we already knew that.

They also said if we lose, the playoffs are history.

Posted by: Lisa_R | December 4, 2008 6:00 PM | Report abuse

If a sprain is "not fully healthy", then Jason Taylor did not play fully healthy for the Dolphins either. I'm not talking about the sprain (he played with that ... and got run over). I'm talking about the "compartmental syndrome" ... the 'freak injury' ... though it doesn't seem so freakish in context ("Friends and family were SHOCKED at the sudden death of the 97-year old man.").

But I do agree with 4th that there is comfort in keeping Jason Taylor away from NFC East opponents rosters (where he probably would not have gotten hurt). Under the circumstances, with Daniels out, and losing the developmental depth guy out, and Taylor available, it was the correct move at that time. But like the Kendall move to fill a gap at the last minute, there WAS a gap that that needed to have been filled at the last minute (that should have been filled well before ... Todd Wade to fill for Dockery ... please).

Respectfully disagree.

When Daniels went down, who foresaw Zorn's early success as a coach? Was there a realistic chance the skins could go deep in the playoffs? I don't think so. But IF that's what Cerrato thought, then he MUSt have drafted the three receivers with the idea they would help THIS YEAR. They have not.

So either Cerrato blew the draft, or wasted a 2nd round pick with a desperate move to shore up the DE position.

And, why NOT stick with Demetrick Evans, Alexander and develop Chris Wilson?

Now the team has the worst of both worlds. Taylor has been a bust, and an expensive one, and Kendall's usefulness is about over.

And in 2009, the 'skins don't have the picks to reload.

As far as keeping Taylor away from the rest of the NFC East, let THEM overpay for a guy who is overaged and undersized and thus could have been expected to get injured or be less than effective no matter where he played. The FO can't manage the Redskins roster, they shouldn't waste energy trying to manage other team's rosters.

"It's not as if the Redskins started out awful, and slowly built their play up to end up winning 8-9 games. We started out great, then brought our play down to struggle to get to 8-9 wins."

I agree with psps23 - regression is not a good argument for the "Campbell is still maturing" or "Zorn is a new coach" camps.

More reason to play the young players and see what they've got..

Cork -- we're sort of on the same page. If you are rebuilding, you don't pull the trigger on the Jason Taylor trade. Its just that simple. You see which of the young guys could turn into something and keep the picks.

If you're thinking this could be a very good team ... and there's no reason not to think that way with every starter returning from a team that finished very strong in 2007 ... then you make the move for Taylor and do something else. You know who I wanted.

But because they tried to do both things, they compromised both. Not sure I'm ready to say its the worst of both worlds, but I am saying they should have gone one way or the other.

Rivers does need to pick it up. Just 2 FF points since halftime. 24 for the game is OK, but Brees is gonna throw all day vs ATL.

I just don't understand why you reporter shmoes aren't hammering zorn more about why he isn't using more 2 TE sets. We have problems with our pass catchers, well we got cooley and davis, why can't we seem them on the field at the same time?

Watching Vinny on Comcast right now, pretty hilarious. He's climbing the walls from the very beginning of the show, can't wait to get outta there....
His radio show must be a bag of laughs, what an entertainer. Although not being able to see the goldfish eyes would take a little away from it...

Vinny handling personnel for my team = not so hilarious

kost,

Used to be a beer called George Starke's Head Hog brew back in the glory years(80's). Was actually quite tasty. Been in Florida for past 10 yrs so don't know of it's availability.

Had a bit of a search, looks like it's out of production. Head Hog Beer Company is now a beer of the month club.

You almost got it, we were so close to the perfect beer to drink during Redskins games!

I'm in it!!1 Rivers for 31 points keeps me in the hunt. Just wish I'd used Sproles. First time all year Sproles gets double digit touches. 12 touches, 64 yards, 2 TDs. That's what Norv has been wasting.

Kost,

My Dad still has a Can of it in his Redskins room in his basement in Warrenton...... I can remember almost opening it in high school, when me and my buddies were out of beer.... I would've got my azz kicked....

Sproles goes 80 yards on a PR ... but its called back. Fun to watch, though

CLEGG, That's awesome, do you think he'll ever open it? I know I've got a can of Duff Beer, which was on sale over here for a short time (before they were sued by FOX), and I don't know if I'll ever drink it.

Over here they have these Premiership Ports, which are basically a Port which was made in the year of a team's last Premiership and you aren't meant to drink it until they win their next one. You guys have anything like that over there?

Kost,

Not to my knowledge,...... I think that Starke beer was from 82 or 83 SuperBowl year..... I can't imagine it would taste worth a damn, but I'd certainly "shotgun" it if the "Maroon & Black" won another Lombardi!!!!!!

Isn't Budweiser the "Official Beer of the Washington Redskins"?

Why don't you just drink that?

Oh. Right.

Because it's swill.

Clegg,

I was playing in a charity golf tournament somewhere in Northern Va
back in 1988 and George Starke himself was on the course promoting it. Needless to say we indulged...as a matter of fact, I took a few extra and stored them in my bag. They didn't last long, but I may have one in my parents basement. Will have to research.

Do any of you remember Starke's Heada Hog BBQ? He had a restaurant on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda for a year or two. A buddy of mine was his partner.

+++Clinton, #26:

The number of women Clinton slept with other than his wife when he was gov'nor of ArK Kansas.

Posted by: periculum +++|

Reminds me of the old line attributed to Lincoln when told that General Grant was a lush. "Find out what brand he drinks and send a case to the rest of my generals."

In other words, it's possible if Nixon and Bush had had as much Strange as Clinton and Kennedy they wouldn't have so royaly screwed up the country.

The Far Right's insistence on physical purity among our leaders is (1) often violated by the Far Right's own Hound dogs too, and (2) goes against the old Alpha Male law of natural selection.

How ABOUT that New Jersey State football Team!!!!

While most of u bozos were watching a lousy pro game, us Rutgers alums were enjoying thw Scarlet Knights merciless pounding of Louisville, 63-14.

RU QB Mike Teel threw six TD passes in the FIRST HALF..

Kid is a lead foot, and too often throws the ball to people in the wrong colored jerseys, but during the last half of the season, there may be no other QB in college who throws a more accurate deep ball.

Someone will draft him and if they can cure his bad reads, he could be a great QB.
