Pre-Practice Notes

Some quick hits before getting out to practice:

From what I hear CB Shawn Springs will not be participating in any of these OTAs. He's tending to some family stuff and working out on his own. As I have been writing, he's all set to report for the start of training camp.

Congrats to Louis Riddick, Skins former pro personnel director, who was replaced this month by Morocco Brown. Knew he'd land on his feet quickly. Skins let him go after 7 years and he'll be scouting for the Eagles this season, and will certainly be someone they cull for information about the Redskins.

Continuing that thread, Brown's departure from Chicago left an opening there, and that too has local ties. Forgot to mention this sooner but when I spoke to Bobby DePaul, Brown's mentor and the Bears pro personnel director, he passed along that Brown's old job in Chicago will be filled by former Terp standout Dennard Wilson (DePaul is a Terp as well and wanted to share the Terp luv). The safety, an upper Marlboro native who played at DeMatha, left Maryland in 2003, bounced around the league a bit and spent some time on the Skins roster as well.

And, finally, I have been urged to make something utterly clear regarding an item that I posted yesterday, and, hey, I'm an accommodating guy so here goes. Lest anyone who read the small blog item about the Redskins going to see an advance screening of "Hancock" have any confusion about who put that outing together, it was all Dan Snyder. One-hundred percent his deal. His baby. When the story of the 2008 Washington Redskins is told one day, let's make sure we give all credit where it is due. Dan Snyder gave this team "Hancock," could a Lombardi Trophy be far behind? I thought it was already pretty obvious to everyone who read the thing yesterday, but apparently some within Redskins Park were deeply troubled that it was not clear enough. So, again, as a courtesy to them, here it is.
