PS - Beware DLD
The other paper got something major wrong in its "story" today, if that's what you can call it that.
The Redskins have never asked for permission to speak to any Giants coaches, according to numerous league sources, which I reported yesterday. And the article also gets the process wrong - the Redskins would now have to wait until after the Super Bowl to interview Giants D Coordinator Steve Sganuolo or anyone else. The window tyhis week, the bye week before the Super Bowl is for second interviews only, or in cases where teams asked permission previously. Redskins don't qualify for either.
Spoke at length with Spagnuolo's agent last night. He could be a great candidate, but he can not speak to the Redskins this week and has never been contacted by them. Atlanta tried to interview Spagnuolo during the window to talk to playoff coaches a few weeks back and was rebuffed. The Redskins never asked for permission at that time, and thus would have to wait until February to even approach him
Spagnuolo is a rising star, no doubt, and there was as rumor making its way around the league yesterday that had the Giants lost Spagnuolo would have been a candidate for several openings. The Falcons might wait him out. But I can assure you he won't be talking to the Redskins for quite some time.
