QBs And More Wacky Playoff Stuff

Did some probing around to see if the Redskins were welcoming any familiar faces back at the QB position, and, for now, if they are talking to any blasts from the pasts, I'm not aware of it.

Jason Campbell was told last week to prepare for a four-week absence - or about that - and has told his teammates that he would be back only for the playoffs. But I'd be surprised if the Skins put him on IR, just in case, as that would end his season. They could, however, opt to sign another QB to the active roster - or, more likely, the practice squad - and then weigh the need to have 3 QBs active on game day.

The Skins did not attempt to contact the representatives from the other QBs they had in camp, all of whom have some degree of grasp of Al Saunders's offensive system. Several agents contacted the team today, though, according to league sources, to see if they would be signing a passer. Those agents were informed the team would be assessing the scope of Campbell's injury Tuesday and making any final decision then, before full practice resumes Wednesday.

At this point Casey Bramlet, Sam Hollenbach (Maryland) and Jordan Palmer have not been contacted by the club, league sources said. They could get a call. Hollenbach and Palmer are out of football right now and free agents, while Palmer could be signed to the active roster from Miami's practice squad.

Also, wanted to add some stuff to the earlier playoff post. In that post I went under the stated assumption that the Giants get the top wildcard spot - but I got some emails looking for more scenarios, so, at the risk of making your eyes bleed, and with an assist to reader Joe D., here are even more delicious playoff possibilities.

Should the Redskins beat the Giants and win out, and the Giants lose their two remaining games after that, the teams would be tied at 9 wins, but the Skins would beat them out on the common opponent tiebreaker. Doubt this would happen, but never say never I suppose (Giants play at Buffalo then finish with the Mighty Mighty Pats).

And, for the most ardent believers out there, try this one on for size: The Skins could actually clinch a playoff spot before Week 17. How you might ask?

Well, if the Skins beat the Giants and Vikings in the next two weeks, and the Saints lose tonight, and next week the Vikings lose to the Bears, the Lions lose to (Stay Classy) San Diego, and Carolina loses to Seattle ... and, whoever wins the Arizona/New Orleans game next Sunday then loses in Week 16 (Cards play St. Louis and Saints play Philly). Well, chalk all that up the Skins are in before they even face the Cowboys in Week 17.

Got all that? Yeah, me neither.
