Rain Drops Keep Falling On My Head
Just got to my seat in the auxilary press box here. What a trip in.
I have a pretty cool seat, in the corner of the Bears' end zone in the second tier, not too high up. There is a problem, however. It's still raining - been alternating between a mist and showers all morning - and the partial overhang is helpful, but not foolproof it terms of water protection.
If it really starts to come down we're in trouble, but otherwise we'll stick it out here. I have a feeling a lot of my media brethren will be sitting under the stadium in the large media room watching on TV, and had I been given a seat in the upper deck instead of here, I'd probably be right there with them. We had pretty outstanding weather all week, but they are calling for it to be rainy and overcast all day and night.
Traffic is pretty horrific, so anyone not here already might be in trouble. It took a good 45 minutes for the bus to get down the off ramp at Dolphins Stadium, into the stadium and to the media drop-off area.
The stadium is still largely empty. Highlights from the 1971 Super Bowl - featuring the BALTIMORE Colts - are playing on the scoreboard. Our guy Sabol picked a cute intro to the flim. He has a camera inside the ticket office, shooting out toward the people stepping up to will call to get seats.
People kept coming up to the counter trying to talk their way in, saying the Dallas quarterback had left them seats, or "Mr. Newman from the league office." Caught some funny exchanges, and the way they shot it was clever.
Anyway, I have a lot to get you caught up on from last night. Let me post this now and I'll get working on stringing together Saturday night's parties.
