Rams Lead Redskins by a Point at the Half

The Redskins' first possession of the quarter lasted 5 minutes, 57 seconds -- their second of at least that long on the day. It featured four first downs and covered 64 yards. But once again, it ended in a short field goal for Suisham, this one of 28 yards for a 6-0 lead with 7:58 left. The Redskins' plays, after getting first and goal from the 8: a two-yard loss for Portis, a dropped pass near the goal line by fullback Mike Sellers, and a ball well overthrown by Campbell to Antwaan Randle El.

On the Rams' next possession, back Steven Jackson ripped off a 68-yard gain, and the team that hadn't scored a point in the first five quarters of its season did what the Redskins couldn't: scored a touchdown. On third and goal from the 2, Bulger threw a fade route to receiver Laurent Robinson, who badly beat cornerback DeAngelo Hall for the touchdown that put the Rams up 7-6.

The Redskins got the ball back and again were on the move, but any momentum they might have gained was stopped when receiver Santana Moss was stripped of the ball by St. Louis defensive backs Oshiomogho Atogwe and Ron Bartell. The Rams recovered at their own 30, and took a one-point lead into the locker room.

Zorn won't get fired, nor should he. But if you think he should be, who would you replace him with as interim head coach?

If skins lose... Zorn is gone... But with that said.......... Skins will come back and win this......The better talent will show in the 2nd half...

Skins have struggled in the Red Zone for many years. This does not appear to be new.

The Redskins will find a way to lose. I was so right that the Redskins would turn over the ball on the last possession!!!!!!!

I'd start with Sellers, Moss and D. Hall in that order.

Exactly!

I do not think Zorn or Blache should get fired. They should have 4-5 years at least IMO to build a team that they want, not fair to rate them on the inherited mess they have to work with.

Posted by: 1965skinsfan | September 20, 2009 2:36 PM | Report abuse

The Rams use their tallest receiver at the goal loine and we don't, Zorn not very smart in the red zone.

I think he would get fired IF Snyder can convince Shanahan to take over. But, not after only two games. And, I don't think Snyder would fire Zorn to replace him with one of his assistants. Not much there.

When Norv was fired, Snyder tried to get Ray Rhodes to take the job, but he wouldn't do it. I think if Snyder knew Rhodes wouldn't take the job, he wouldn't have fired Norv.

I'm much more concerned with what most expected to be strength, the corners on this team are playing like their scared, what's up with these guys?

since this off season i'm just resigned to look forward to next season. can't wait till the off season.

Zorn must have two playbooks....a conservative playbook for outside the redzone and a "VERY" CONSERVATIVE PLAYBOOK FOR INSIDE THE REDZONE. Inside the redzone, he seems to call plays that will give his team a easier field position

Posted by: pennstate1 | September 20, 2009 2:38 PM | Report abuse

Please, for the sake of all things holy, throw the ball in the end zone.

So it is JC fault that DT didn't catch the ball. It's JC fault that Sellers drop the ball.

Could someone currently at FedEx Field, or with connection to someone currently at FedEx field during the game, please instigate a "SNYDER SUCKS" chant? I sincerely hope that it makes national television.

Zorn's offense = ***crickets chirping***

Posted by: frak | September 20, 2009 2:42 PM | Report abuse

I don't know how people are blaming this on Campbell. I've counted 2 dropped touchdown passes and a fumble by Santana. He's playing great right now. Quick decisions and not pump faking 4 times and getting hit. They have to hold onto the ball.

Posted by: SDMDTSU | September 20, 2009 2:43 PM | Report abuse

These Southwest commercials are funny, except they don't show the part where you pick up your little lunch baggie.

Posted by: daggar | September 20, 2009 2:43 PM | Report abuse

Zorn did not pick his own QB, so that's his only saving grace...but what kills him is how he does not utilize the talent he has

No Fred Davis...no Malcolm Kelly in the Red Zone...no Devin Thomas...no Marko Mitchell..

To me...this is what could cost Zorn his job.

So it is JC fault that DT didn't catch the ball. It's JC fault that Sellers drop the ball.

Those 2 aren't JC's fault. Freaking out against a non-existent pass rush on the last third and goal and throwing the ball away to settle for a field goal--that's all JC.

Exactly. I can't imagine any big name coach coming in after two games. That's why you keep Zorn the whole season, unless it's so awful in the second half of the season that you have to shake things up.

You've got to be kidding me?! Zorn's playcalling is desperate. Throw on 1st down inside the redzone moron!

Posted by: ga8085 | September 20, 2009 2:55 PM | Report abuse

A lead is a lead. Still, though, this game should be 21-7. They are letting the Rams stay in the game. And that is going to bite the team in the @ss late! Somehow the defense is going to have to step up here because, clearly, the offense has no intention of doing anything brilliant.

Posted by: jiacinto | September 20, 2009 2:56 PM | Report abuse

ZORN IS A FU&%$%# SCARED AS# COACH... HE COACHES SCARED...WHEN IN THE REDZONE, HE CALLS PLAYS LIKE A SCARED AS& PUNK
