Redskins win 17-14 on DeAngelo Hall's four picks

Updated: 4:40 p.m.
Fourth Quarter

The two teams established the theme of the final quarter - turnovers - early, when Rocky McIntosh forced Matt Forte to fumble at the Redskins' 25. Ryan Torain then looked like he would do his part to salt the game away, ripping off runs of 9, 22 and 23 yards to push the ball to the Chicago 21.

But then Torain got the ball again - and he fumbled it away, giving the Bears a chance. It took the Bears all of two plays to give it right back. Quarterback Jay Cutler looked for a quick-hit to Johnny Knox on the right side, and cornerback DeAngelo Hall was right there, waiting, for what became his third interception of the day. That gave the Redskins the ball at the 13 - with another chance to put the game away.

They didn't do it. Chris Cooley fumbled a completion from Donovan McNabb and was penalized for batting the ball out of bounds. McNabb then missed Santana Moss on second down, and he was sacked on third down. Graham Gano came on to kick a 37-yard field goal - and he bounced it off the left upright, a huge miss.

The Redskins, though, got the ball back with just more than six minutes left - and another chance to put the game out of reach. Again, they failed. Ryan Torain was dropped for a one-yard loss on third-and-1 near midfield, and the Redskins punted back to the Bears, who took over at their own 19 with 3:31 remaining.

But after the Bears moved the ball to their own 47, Cutler looked deep down the right sideline for Knox. Who else but Hall would step in and pick it off? His fourth pick of the day tied the NFL record for most interceptions in a game, a mark he now shares with several players. The Redskins ran out the clock from there, securing their fourth win of the year.

Third Quarter

DeAngelo Hall had two interceptions in the third quarter, the second of which he returned 92 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. After three quarters, the Redskins held a 17-14 lead.

The Bears appeared to reach the end zone twice in the third quarter but didn't register a single touchdown. In the opening minutes of the quarter, Bears receiver Earl Bennett beat Carlos Rogers for a 48-yard reception, putting them on the 1-yard line. He appeared close to a touchdown, as he and Phillip Buchanon rolled toward the goal line. But the officials reviewed the play after a Chicago challenge and ruled that Bennett didn't reach the end zone.

On the next play -- first and goal -- Jay Cutler ran a quarterback sneak to the right side, but Albert Haynesworth leaped over the line and caught the Bears' quarterback. Then London Fletcher forced the ball loose and recovered the fumble.

On the Redskins' ensuing possession, Donovan McNabb threw a pass that was intercepted and returned to the end zone by D.J. Moore. But the score was negated because officials handed the Redskins a delay of game penalty.

Both teams then came up with interceptions that would not be negated. Hall picked off Cutler for the Redskins, and on the next possession, McNabb was intercepted by Danieal Manning.

The Bears put together their longest drive of the game late in the quarter -- which included five first downs -- but wilted in the red zone. On third-and-seven from the Washington 13-yard line, Hall picked off Cutler again -- this time snaring the ball with one hand -- and sprinted down the sideline for a score. The 92-yard return was the third-longest interception return in franchise history.

The Redskins struggled offensively, totaling only 24 yards of offense and one first down in the third quarter. After piling up 33 rushing yards on seven carries in the first quarter, the Redskins had only 1 rushing yard on 6 carries in the second and third quarters.

On defense, midway through the quarter, safety Kareem Moore replaced Reed Doughty in the lineup. Doughty had played the entire first half in Moore's place.

Updated: 2:35 p.m.
Second Quarter

The Redskins opened the quarter with outstanding field position, right at midfield, and a 22-yard pass from Donovan McNabb to Anthony Armstrong pushed them deep into Bears' territory. The drive sputtered, though, when wideout Santana Moss tripped on a third-and-8 play, and McNabb's pass sailed over his head. Graham Gano converted a 46-yard field goal with 12:09 remaining, and Washington took a 10-7 lead.

It was the Redskins' defense that carried the half. The Bears got their first first down of the day on a 24-yard pass from Jay Cutler to Johnny Knox, but a sack by Brian Orakpo - his sixth of the season and the Redskins' third of the day - stopped that possession.

But Washington couldn't take advantage of its repeatedly good field position. The Redskins got the ball at the 50 and went three and out. Then, after the defense forced a three-and-out from the Bears - highlighted by Albert Haynesworth's third-down tackle of Chester Taylor for a four-yard loss - they got the ball at their own 44 and went three and out again.

The Bears actually moved the ball on their last possession of the half, using a pass to Devin Hester to get their second first down of the day, then gaining another one when Brian Orakpo was called for lining up in the neutral zone - his second such penalty on the drive. The Bears finally were moving, and eventually got the ball to the 9, with Cutler evading pressure and using quicker passes.

On second down, Orakpo pressured Cutler, who stepped forward to evade him and found Knox in the back corner of the end zone. With 24 seconds left, the Bears had a 14-10 lead, the advantage they took to the locker room.

First Quarter

Donovan McNabb contributed to two touchdowns in the game's opening quarter - one for each team - and the Redskins and Bears were tied 7-7 heading into the second quarter.

Though the scoreboard showed an even game, Washington dominated offensively, piling up 144 yards on the Bears. Meanwhile, led by Jay Cutler, Chicago's offense managed minus-five yards in the opening quarter. The Bears failed to notch a single first down.

Chicago's defense is the lone reason the game was close at the outset. The Redskins faced first-and-20 midway through the quarter and the Bears called a nickel blitz. Chicago's D.J. Moore had a straight line to the quarterback. He wrapped up McNabb, but McNabb tried to
throw the ball - a bad decision, as it turned out.

Bears defensive end Israel Idonije tipped the ball and it fell into Moore's hands. The second-year cornerback returned the interception 54 yards for the game's first score.

But the Redskins answered on their next possession, driving 72 yards down the field. McNabb hooked up with Santana Moss on a 24-yard touchdown reception.

Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth saw significant time on the defensive line and
registered his first sack of the season, one of two for the Redskins in the quarter. On the offensive line, both Stephon Heyer and Jammal Brown saw time at right tackle.

Running back Ryan Torain rushed for 31 yards on six carries, helping the Redskins establish their running game early.

Too many three and outs for the Skins on offense. They gotta widen their lead.

Redskins are not taking advantage of a game they're in full control of.

This doesn't bode well.

Challenging us to throw it.

Posted by: Diesel44 | October 24, 2010 2:07 PM | Report abuse

Our offense is terrible and the Bears D isn't as tired as I hoped.

We need a back that can pick up a blitz. KW isn't any good at that yet.

Damn can we stop throwing the damn ball so much .The O doesn't look any different than the last 4 years

Posted by: p1funk | October 24, 2010 2:12 PM | Report abuse

We need a turnover in at least field goal range.

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | October 24, 2010 2:12 PM | Report abuse

Defense and AH showed up to play.

Offense (pass pro) needs to get it together.

Can't run the stretches against this D. If they hand the ball off they need to try to work up the gut. They're trying to do some screens, which is a good idea, but Bears are batting them down.

Posted by: p1funk | October 24, 2010 2:16 PM | Report abuse

ENOUGH of the play action.

Posted by: Diesel44 | October 24, 2010 2:16 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | October 24, 2010 2:17 PM | Report abuse

Skins offense is making the game harder than it has to be.

Posted by: TWISI | October 24, 2010 2:22 PM | Report abuse

Haslett better adjust accordingly.

Posted by: filthy_laugh | October 24, 2010 2:29 PM | Report abuse

That's not on Haslett.

Posted by: stevie_in_gp | October 24, 2010 2:30 PM | Report abuse

that was on 31, regardless of it being zone.

Bears get the ball to start the half. That 1st half is on McNabb. D Gave him the short field all half and he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

Posted by: Diesel44 | October 24, 2010 2:30 PM | Report abuse

Cutler was perfect that drive because of short throws AND HASLETT CANNOT FIGURE THAT THEY'RE GOING TO USE SLANTS?

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | October 24, 2010 2:30 PM | Report abuse

this team is so pathetic sometimes.

Posted by: rachel216 | October 24, 2010 2:30 PM | Report abuse

yuck...yuck...yuck. The offense first half was horrible. Hopefully the defense steps up again, and the offense get's it going.

Posted by: TWISI | October 24, 2010 2:31 PM | Report abuse

Yes the Bears have a good defense but to think that the Bears would be leading this game at the half is a serious indictment of this coaching staff, an offense that has had the ball at midfield three or four times and have basically come up with nothing is absolutely ridiculous i told all of you that Shannahan is a fraud as a head coach and his wonder boy son as the OC is a down right joke.

Posted by: dargregmag | October 24, 2010 2:32 PM | Report abuse

so do we resign mcnabb??? million dollar question. but what i do know is we better be drafting one soon.

Posted by: rachel216 | October 24, 2010 2:32 PM | Report abuse

This is totally on the offense. You have great field position all game and all you can do is score 10 points and give up 7. Each game the trade for McNabb looks worst and worst to me

Posted by: jm220 | October 24, 2010 2:33 PM | Report abuse

Here is an idea..... how about blowing an opponent out for a change? I can't remember the last time I got to sit back and watch the Skins take someone behind the woodshed.

Posted by: swowra | October 24, 2010 2:33 PM | Report abuse

Typical redskins game that we should win, come out looking like dogsjk.

Posted by: OffseasonChamps | October 24, 2010 2:34 PM | Report abuse

Redskins offense is just putrid.

Posted by: will_ga | October 24, 2010 2:35 PM | Report abuse

The offensive coaches suck and McNabb sucks. We're going to be in trouble for a long time under this staff/QB.

Posted by: ArlingtonHokie | October 24, 2010 2:36 PM | Report abuse

Ripping the offense is fair.

BUT, Buchanon fails AGAIN. Gives up too much room behind him in the endzone, with no underneath threat. Its the Houston game all over again.

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | October 24, 2010 2:36 PM | Report abuse

And the Bears get the ball after the halftime, and Cutler/Martz will cut up Haslett's defense again.

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | October 24, 2010 2:36 PM | Report abuse

Mcnabb sucks and same with the offense.. F you Mc Crap and Lil Shanny..F you to hell

Posted by: Tyler84101 | October 24, 2010 2:39 PM | Report abuse

Did DM shrink during the week? I've never seen so many batted balls in one half.

Buchanon is absolutely useless in zone coverage. A veteran who is constantly out of position.

Sad to say it but they'll lose this game after knowing they should've buried it in the first half. Yuck.

The key statistic will be turnovers. The Redskins and Bears have performed better than expected because of their +5 and +2 respectively in turnovers. Good field position as a result of turnovers is why these two teams are competitive despite obvious problems on offense.

Well, for those who are bemoaning the D for giving up so many yards, the 3-4 is producing a lot of key turnovers.

Think I will take that over a D that could barely pick off a pass or get any sort of pass rush.

A really poor performance either with a win or a loss. This offense is realllly struggling. They should have scored 35-40 points. Gano has potential and I am hoping he becomes a great kicker, but he misses a FG kick a game. How much longer will they put up with him?

Big Ben fumbled at the goal line. It was ruled a TD, but the Fins challenged it. It was obviously a fumble, but according to the ref, since there was no clear view of who initially recovered in the end zone, the Steelers kept the ball and Reed kicked the go-ahead FG.

The key statistic will be turnovers. The Redskins and Bears have performed better than expected because of their +5 and +2 respectively in turnovers. Good field position as a result of turnovers is why these two teams are competitive despite obvious problems on offense.

Ultimately, this game goes to the Redskins because they always put themselves in a position to obtain turnovers (except for Carlos), and the Bears have an anemic offense. They will get these turnovers deep in Bears territory and capitalize on the short field. The game will remain unnecessarily close though since the Redskins prefer to kick FGs instead of score TDs, and the Bears defense will make sure of that.

He had to do it to slow down the pass rush.

Our pass-pro today was pretty crummy. Still our offensive gameplan is weak overall. Mediocre play from McNabb and receivers. Let's not kid ourselves, Anthony Armstrong is a nice story and a hard worker; but if we are counting on him to be our offensive playmaker then we are in trouble.

Torain has promise as a tough 20+ carry runner. He needs alot of work on picking his cuts, but I think that will come with reps and experience. He's a bit of a liability on the stretch play b/c he's slow. But he's definitely an improvement over Clinton Portis.

Hall picked 4, but he had a lot of help from the bears on those. He has proved he can catch (hands down...hahahahah!), and that's good enough. Goddam, the skins just cant win by more than a 3 point margin; winning ugly by a mediocre team, which is getting better, ain't bad though, especially for a 4-12 season last year.

To all those who picked the score at 17-14 (including john kiem, I think), good job.

I'll take this ugly win anyday... if Hall can do this, he can yap all he wants. For all the grief he gets for his coverage sometimes, bottom line is this guy makes game changing plays!

McNabb was atrocious today, but I believe he really can't get any worse than he was today. I hold out hope he will get in a groove very soon. The ATV is a beast, you can't get him down on the first try. But hang onto that ball!

...One more time, DHall is a beast... so was AH!!!!

Posted by: rachel216 | October 24, 2010 4:34 PM | Report abuse

Quick thoughts:

A win is a win

McNabb played, by far, his worst game as a Skin

Haynesworth played a great game!

With a few more pieces on defense...this defense could be great!

The O-line sucked today, specifically Jamaal Brown.

Torain is good, but he did put the ball on the ground...we need a "scat back" to complement him.

An ugly win, but I'll take it, the Offense should have scored at least 21,28 points.

Albert Haynesworth was a beast, to literally lift the guard off his feet and drive him into Cutler to sack him was an all-world play!

DeAngelo Hall's 4 Int's including the 92yd return for a TD was exceptional. 4 Int's tied an NFL record.

Torain's 125yds were key, he needs to hold on to the ball and read his blocks/holes better.

Game balls to D.Hall and A.Haynesworth, oh I almost forgot about Orakpo.
Can you beleive it? Halls int on the td return was 1 ONE handed, great stuff!

HTTR!! Next up, the LIONS, here we come.

Wouldn't it be appropriate for Dan Snyder to send the referees of this game a nice fruit basket or some other such gesture of gratitude for the two touchdowns they took from the Bears? The first was when Jay Cutler held the ball across the goal line long before Albert Haynesworth knocked the ball from his grasp. The second was moments later when the Bears intercepted a pass and ran it in for a touchdown only to have the play called back because of a delay of game penalty. They didn't stop the play like they should have. In fact if you review the film you see the flag didn't fly until after the interception. With Jay Cutler's tendency to throw the ball to the wrong team or his receivers tendency to give up on a route leaving the defender wide open to catch a pass, those 14 points would have been handy for the Bears to have. So let's hope Dan shows his appreciation.

Jay Cutler throws 4 picks and your guys turn it over 6 times and you want to come up here and moan about the refereeing???

And by the way, if Cutler was so clearly in the end zone why don't you get on Lovie's blog and tell him to challenge the play...it's the little red flag in his back pocket.

Anyhow, the fruit basket is a great idea. If you have Cutler's address, I'll be sure Dan sends it along with my regards.

If our offense ever puts together a complete game, we might just beat someone convincingly one day. While pacing behind the couch during the second half today, doing my weekly ranting and raving, I wondered why the heck I was so worked up when this is what it's like every dang week.

We dodged a huge bullet when Chicago didn't challenge on the Cutler fumble at the goal line. That was a TD 10 times out of 10. Can't believe we got away with that one.

Everyone on offense needs to take about $5K out of their game checks and give it to DHall. I hope he has incentive bonuses in his contract, because he was all-world today.

Yeah that's great if you've established the run and the D is actually falling for the PA. They weren't and it actually got to be ridiculous that they kept calling it because the plays were SO slow to develop and became SO predictable.

DHall had more catches than anybody not wearing 47 or 89.

Not defending the thought process - just explaining it as I imagine it to be. Torain did end up with 125 on the ground which is nothing to scoff at agaisnt this run D. He's not going to break a big one, but he's a classic power volume runner who needs to be fed.

In the pass game, Mcnabb had the one TD toss to Moss...apart from that I think that the whole passing game stunk in all phases.

He had a good game, the best he's had this year, but that still wasn't all that he's capable of. He won't go to the Pro Bowl unless he can raise his game further. That game was not as good as the salary he's pulling down.

And, Barno, this illustrates why so many people hate you. Can't you just "disagree without being disagreeable"? I'm thinking of one person, brownwood, who was hot to trade Haynesworth. He posts more intelligent football commentary up here on one of his bad days than you've posted the whole time you've been visiting this board. Wouldn't it be appropriate for Dan Snyder to send the referees of this game a nice fruit basket or some other such gesture of gratitude for the two touchdowns they took from the Bears?
----------------

That's just dumb. A penalty is a penalty. If it took him until after the play to get the flag out of his pocket, then fine. The play clock clearly hit 00 before the ball was snapped, hence a penalty. It doesn't matter when the flag came out. That's not stealing a TD, that's enforcing the rules.

McBouncePass manages to stink it up again...but he had help from wideouts and TE's that could not catch the ball early on. After that the failure was mostly on him and the fumbling brigade (Torain). I think wearing LB46's number is conducive to fumbling at the worst possible times? Still, Torain looks better each week. Let's just hope he doesn't continue to resemble Ladell Betts at the worst possible times.

Good showing by the D. They continue to play "bend but don't break" defense, and this game was no exception. I think D.Hall got into Cutler's head (either that or Cutler just plain sucks).

Skins fans, be afraid...even though the Bears D is a very good one, against better competition the Skins would not have won this game. The Skins and Bears are both teams who have played much worse than their records would indicate. Then again, Aikman did mention that the Skins have always played hard enough to stay in virtually every game...so maybe that's the difference-maker.

On a lighter note, did anyone notice that Thom Brennahan says "third" very strangely? Every time he said "third down" he said it like he was Swedish or something...it sounded like "thoed." Still can't stop chuckling at that...

UGLY W IS STILL A W. HAIL!

We've beaten 3 teams who were in the playoffs last year and one team that was it's division leader.

We've lost 2 games by FGs and one on the road.

Given our schedule, I'd say 4-3 is pretty good considering we were 4-12 last year.

I don't know what "playing worse" means to you. We've suffered b/c we've not yet been able to put a total game together where offense, defense and ST hit on all cylinders.

We seem to have one phase of the game suffer while another excels and carries the team.

What it says to me is that we are still a work in progess, but very competitive at the same time.

I saw some scary similarities between McNabb and Cutler today. A brilliant throw followed by a throw that misses a receiver by five yards. I like DMac, but I'm starting to see why he drove the people in Philly nuts with his inconsistency.

If they re-sign DM they will have to sign a monster guard in f.a. Hicks looked awful at times today. And Brown may not be the answer at RT.

Classic Campbell.

He's good for a couple long TDs every season. He even had them last year - I remember a 60 yarder to Moss against TB off the top of my head.

It's the part of Jason Campbell mediocrity-package that used to keep certain people clinging on to the hope that maybe he is really good and just a victim of circumstances.

They remember those couple of nice long TDs, yet somehow forget everything else in between.

Posted by: p1funk | October 24, 2010 5:58 PM

Well said. I'm kind of a harsh critic of the Skins so maybe I'm a bit more nit-picky than the average fan. Maybe my big concern is just that the D has bailed the O out many games -- the O manages to choke at the worst times, like when the Skins need a clock-eating drive late in the 4th quarter.

The other beef I have is that this team always manages to win such ugly games. Not to say that's a bad thing, but it's a bad sign. Most of these games have been snoozers to watch (excluding Houston and Indy of course) because the O can't get anything done. Think of today, the game in Philly, the Rams game (ugh), and the Week 1 Cowboys game. If the Skins didn't have such a turnover-happy (and sack-happy) defense, I probably would have fallen asleep.

That being said, I think p1funk said it best when he noted that it's really just a problem of not being able to get a consistent performance out of all 3 units. Once the O, D, and ST are all firing in one game, that's going to be a nice blowout win.

As for JC's "breakout" game, it's not a breakout game. JC is a mediocre QB who sometimes has big games. For every 40+ yard pass each season, he has like 10 more where he overthrows his receiver by about 20 yards. Anyone remember the end of the Eagles game a few years back (07) when they took a deep shot to close the game out and Campbell overthrew a wide-open Moss by a SERIOUS margin (like nowhere near him)? That's the norm. Anytime he has a long pass it's usually because he dumped it off to someone near the LOS and that player busted loose for a TD (think Cooley in the 06 Panthers game).

Campbell did have an AWESOME deep pass to Moss in the Saints game in 08 that ended up winning the game, but that was after the Saints lost their #1 corner and a backup was covering Santana.

Donnie McBouncePass is already worlds better than Campbell, even though "shaky" is probably a compliment for his accuracy.

Mc nabb WAS terrible today. We all know he's going to have those types of games every now and then. They're painful to watch and we won today in spite of him. But we also know that he will do something that JC never did...bring us back to win games. I'll take the occassional bad to have the good.

McFadden is the Anti-Portis!

52-14 Raiders.

McNabb is not known for his comebacks, Scamp.

Remember when Smoot and Landry stopped Philly on our last game 2 years ago?

I hope he starts doing it. I really do. I think he's great, but the knock on him is like it was with Campbell: "Too Laid Back."

You saw it against Indy. I don't have to explain.

In defense of Don Burgandy, Armstrong did drop what could have been a TD early on and Cooley blew what would have been a drive sustaining catch in the first half.
Those two catches might have led to 10 more points.

That said, the last two weeks have been sub par for him. Hopefully he picks it up in Detroit and clears his head over the bye week.

We put up beaucoup points against the Texans and the Colts.

Those were games we lost, but you can't really put it on the offense. Against the Colts the D was not clutch and ate about 3 would-be turnovers. They got burned for big plays and the only way they could stop a drive was by getting a timely turnover or by hoping the Colts missed a FG (they missed 2)...otherwise Indy posts 30+ on us easily.

If Torain and this ground game can continue to have traction, I think it will go a long way to helping the offense find consistency. Using Portis for 4 games was a loser move. He could do nothing and it forced McNabb to carry the load for this team. He still needs to gain command of this offense and we are still sorting through our WR rotation.

Sorry that post ended up being so long but to sum it up Donovan McNabb has had 15 4th quarter comebacks and 23 game winning drives. He also was instrumental in our overtime win against Green Bay this year.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | October 24, 2010 6:48 PM | Report abuse

In my experience, most of McNabb's comebacks were the result of Brian Westbrook taking it to the house on a screen pass.

Posted by: Thinker_ | October 24, 2010 6:50 PM | Report abuse

This should safely end the talk of Carlos Rogers being the best CB on the team. Dude can cover and tackle but the pass/fail portion of being a pro bowler is making plays on the ball.

Posted by: elfreako | October 24, 2010 6:08 PM | Report abuse

You'd think so, but I doubt it.

You would have thought that after the mediocrity this fanbase saw from Jason Campbell after 50+ starts that all talk would have ceased about him being a legit franchise QB under any circumstances, but some folks held out to the bitter end.

God forbid some of them might even make a case even though McFadden is responsible for 4 of those Oakland TDs.

Anyhow, I'm sure the next time someone catches a pass on DHall, you will hear a long stream of the same-old same-old - overrated, can't cover, not worth the money, runs his mouth, etc. etc.

Remember...hate is not rational.

In the way I look at the team, it could by 6-1, it could also by 0-7. But I will take 4-3 because it shows our grit.

Dont get me wrong. I think McNabb is really good.

I'd say a bigger problem than McNabb's lack of urgency is that our kicker blows nuts.

That is going to bite us in rear.

I know you can read but apparently not with comprehension. I specifically noted the multiple turnovers today. The funny thing is the Bears still could have won the game if the refs hasn't joined the other side. That's how crappy the Skins looked today.

You're just one of those people that talk out of their ass with out ever doing any research to back up your distorted "perception." No one gives a sh!t about your experience especially since it's usually wrong. You rank up there with the peabrains, perineum, and sports_guru in football intelligence so do me a favor, when you see my handle just scroll on pass so I don't have to read your ridiculous "experience." Thanks...ITA.

Waaaaaahhhhh!! Waaahhhhhh!!

The refs jobbed us.

Waaaaaaaahhhh!!! Waaaaaahhh!!

Yeah, we turned over 6 times but we still deserved to win if it weren't for nasty refs. That's how our Bears-fan logic works.

Waaaaaaaahhhh!! Waaaaahhhh!!

My coach didn't challenge a play that clearly could have been challenged, but I blame the refs.

Waaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!! Waaaaahhhhhh!!

The refs called a delay of game penalty. And even though there WAS a delay of game, I'm still going to complain.

Waaaaaaahhhh!! Waaaaaahhh!! Waaaaahhhh!!

Go back and read some of the in-game comments if you want a good yuk. Some people really lose their minds in the heat of battle. "McNabb is the worst ever." "Shanahan is a moron." "Shanny Jr. should be fetching coffee." "We never should have gotten rid of our third pick and JC." Jeez, what drivel.

I don't care what JC is doing in Oakland, he won a total of 4 games out of 16 last year. McNabb is 4 out of 7 already. Yes, the D won the game today, but that's life when your O line is a disaster. And I guess Shanny Jr. completely forgot how he helped Shaub throw for about 5,000 yards last year, huh?

Chicago has one of the league's best D's. Something tells me things will be a bit better next week.

It is absolutely amazing how Albert was able to get in great football shape, learn the defense and crush it - all in a week!

Sitting him out against the Colts was a load of crap.

But I'm glad they won today.

HTTR!

...and Philly got stomped. HA!

Posted by: edvar | October 24, 2010 5:32 PM | Report abuse

People need to get over last week and grasp the simple fact that even if he didn't realize it, AH was too mentally elsewhere to play last week. Dude lost his younger brother and needed one less Sunday to worry about. Let's give Coach S. some credit here. I'm sure missing last week helped AH focus for this week.

Posted by: Pepper5 | October 24, 2010 5:43 PM

Guess you didn't here that he told the coaches and some of the other players that he wanted to play. Coach didn't say he was mentally not there, he said he was out of shape and didn't know the D.

How much of the D do you have to know to push the Center or Guard five yards into the backfield and blow up the play?

Posted by: edvar | October 24, 2010 7:09 PM | Report abuse

What's sad is Orton actually had a decent game for the Broncos.

Maybe he's up for a 4th quarter comeback?

When your team lays an egg, it's hard to look like a good QB.

JC didn't win 4 games last year... The Redskins did. Because we sucked. We have a REAL Coach now. And a BETTER, not very GOOD, O Line.

And McNabb is good. Don't get me wrong. But, he's not Peyton Manning.

Posted by: Thinker_ | October 24, 2010 7:16 PM | Report abuse

Campbell got to sit the whole 4th quarter. Can't imagine McNabb ever getting the chance to do that.

Posted by: coparker5 | October 24, 2010 7:17 PM | Report abuse

I love that they're pulling these games out, but this talk of a long term contract for McNabb puzzles me. Watch some tape of Gus Frerotte. That's what we've got.

Our offense isn't good enough to overcome his miscues. If not for a challenge that Lovie Smith forgot to issue, this would have been a Loss.
