Redskins' defensive tackle Joe Joseph arrested for DUI

By Jason Reid

Redskins' defensive tackle Joe Joseph was arrested at 3 a.m. Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Vincent DiBenedetto, an investigator and the acting public information officer for the Sheriff's Department, said the department had Joe Louis Joseph, 25, in custody Monday, but could not confirm whether he was a member of the Washington Redskins.

However, a booking photo of Joseph matched photos of the ballplayer on the NFL.com and Redskins web sites.

No other details were available on the circumstances of Joseph's arrest. Redskins Senior Vice President Tony Wyllie said that "we're gathering all the facts right now. And that's really all I can say."

Joseph played briefly Sunday in the Redskins' 20-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Jacksonville. Joseph, listed at 6-2, 315, was added to the Redskins active roster from the practice squad Friday. Originally signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted rookie free agent, the former University of Miami player also has spent time on the New York Giants' practice squad.

DikShuttle,
treatment should be decided on a case by case basis. Stompy and BLloyd are different cases.

I was never a fan of the trade for McNabb, and I've been pretty vocal about it since the trade was made. I don't care that he was benched, other than it smacks of scapegoating and/or indicates piss-poor scouting.

But if you went out of your way to get the guy--a classy 11-year vet who had a undeniably successful tenure with another team--you can't suddenly pretend he's a cancerous jackass. You have to at least CONSIDER letting him go gracefully.

I wonder if Miami Hurricane football will ever be as good as it used to be.

Modern college football finds it's roots in Jimmy Johnson's emphasis on speed and athleticism from 20+ years ago.

Since then, guys who can really run are more important than guys who are just big football players.

The 'Canes get the better players from the Dade County area, but miss out on the elite guys from the Southeast and Tex/California who'd help them get over the top back in the day.

I'd say, next Fall, the mighty Criminoles will rule Fla. college football as for now, the Gators and 'Canes are a mess.

How about some cred going Hasletts way. SIX new starters against a team that had something to play for and they were the difference.

Rob Jackson: 3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 ff. It's only one game but he could provide some depth next YR.

A. Bryant: Said it during the preseason that he was the best NT on the roster. He will fit in nicely into the rotation next YR.

Kevin Barnes: I've been touting the TERP as the FS of the future since last YR. He played SS yesterday but this guy needs to get a good look in OTAs and the preseason at FS.

Los: Played well and gave us the short field on the 1st TD. DHall targeted and beaten as usual.

Carriker/Holliday: nothing spectacular but that's how one is suppose to play the 3-4 DE.

Gave up over 300 YDs total but with that mash unit, that was a tremendous showing.

So much for the team quitting on this coaching staff.

You see, the 'implied meaning' in the post I sent that you decry is that a college program, LSU, has produced a number of NFL players.

And they don't all have to be Pro Bowlers to show that the school is doing a great job of recruiting.

I simply forgot to include the Vikings. Apologies all Minnesotans.

Norv will hang on to his job because AJ Smith still thinks he's a good coach and will blame the Chargers' poor season on the inability if the players to be ready to play all the time (even though it's the coach's job to make sure the players are ready to play all the time).

Why can't Skins fan enjoy a solid performance by their team. No, that D yesterday isn't littered with 16 game starters. What it was littered with was some semblance of depth for the defense next year. Guys showed, at least for one game, they can step up, play solid in the run game and generate a pass rush. Moreover, while the Jags aren't the Pats of 2010, they represent the majority of teams in the NFL. Beating such a team given the circumstances the Skins are in is more than reason for positive vibes.

Because many of them would rather lose. Why? They say a few slots of draft position are more important than winning. They don't want the coach and quarterback to have any success. They don't want anybody to forget that the defensive coordinator is a dummy.

Silly me. I was just rooting for the Redskins because that's what fans do. Watching some new guys, and some old ones too, having a good game made it all the more fun. Draft position be damned. Picking at the bottom of rounds every year doesn't seem to hamper the teams that are perenially good.

Agree totally.

I'm also wondering about Jackson playing opposite Orakpo at OLB.

Anthony Bryant playing in a tackle rotation of Golston, a drafted defensive tackle, and a FA seems likely.

Kevin Barnes might be a find at FS, meaning adding a vet FS, and drafting another might provide solid upgrades at the position.

Obviously, we need to decide of CR22 is worth the money: I say he is, despite what folks think.

Carriker stood out as did Jeremy Jarmon: maybe they should fight more often.

Overall, a defensive tackle who can also play end, a real nose guard, another corner, an outside linebacker who can also play inside, and free safety might cure what ails the defense.

And from we all saw yesterday, a couple of the cures are already in-house.

Posted by: MistaMoe | December 27, 2010 4:18 PM | Report abuse

Again my displeasure comes from wanting a better draft position. Any criticism of my viewpoint is completely understandable. Jax is a bad and very lucky team, their record reflects this. I really dont see why I should praise the teams play yesterday. I thought they played poorly and any decent team would have beat them. Again i completely understand wanting to take positives from the game but other then some backups on D and a QB that the FO loves and i hate i dont see what good came out of yesterdays game. 4.7 yds per pass, ugh.

We haven't seen much of Barnes because he's not that good. Yeah, he made the pick to win the game, but the ball was floated to him. He really had a bad game if you watched him. He got burned on coverage the whole game ( why was Garrard throwing in his direction all the time?? Hello..) and when Garrard ran the QB keeper up the middle to score, Barnes was supposed to cover that.
Between him at safety and D Hall at corner, there's plenty of passing space. Barnes won't help our last place defense. He only played because we're out of people. There's a reason he's not suiting up every Sunday....

Sorry, but any list of potential coaching replacements has to take into account the Rooney Rule. And aside from Dungy (improbable he wants back in), Rivera and Frazier--already a lock--there's a bunch of minority possibilities with better qualifications than a list of retreads. (And, by the way, who knows if the Redskins followed the Rooney Rule before hiring Shanny.)

The redskins should provide limos for all players each night when they hit the clubs to keep them out of trouble for dui arrests so they don't miss any game. Money should be no object---it would only cost a couple of mil for each season for all the limos, drivers, etc. To keep the players happy, they can stock the limos with their favorite beverages and maybe a couple of hot ladies.

Give him a break. Happy to have a win. He knows it was wrong and hes a smart person. People shouldn't make comments about what they think about the person unless they know them. That is your own opinion so keep it that way. So he is not a moron. Put yourself in the shoes, you never know.

Anyone who drinks and drives should be automatically given at least a one-month prison sentence on the first offense. That would pretty much encourage people to call a cab.

It's not just athletes. Way too many people in every walk of life do this crap. My nephew miraculously survived a head-on collision with a drunk driver two years ago. I know of a family that was killed last year because a drunk driver hit them head on while driving the wrong direction.

I say a quick way of reducing the number of these incidents, both in the NFL and in society in general, is to impose an automatic one-month prison sentence on the first offense. No exceptions. After a few of these sentences are carried out, the taxicab business will be booming again and fewer people will die because some drunk idiot decides he can make it home.
