Houston wins in overtime 30-27

Updated 7:42 p.m.
Overtime
Houston won the toss and opened overtime with the ball, taking over at its own 12-yard line.

Schaub immediately found Walter for a 16-yard gain over the middle, then found Walter again for seven yards. Arian Foster ripped off runs of 10 and six yards consecutively, and Schaub found Walter again - this time for nine yards to set up first down on the Redskins 40-yard line. After picking up six more yards, the Texans stalled and opted to punt instead of trying a 52-yard field goal.

The Redskins took over on their own 20-yard line and started to drive down the field.  McNabb was sacked, but a 15 yard penalty for a late hit wiped that out. McNabb had three straight completions to move to the 37 yard line, and a short completion set up a 52-yard field goal. Gano nailed it but Houston had called a timeout just before the kick. Gano's second attempt was wide right.

Houston took over the on the 42 yard line and drove down the field. An offside penalty on Chris Horton, who had replaced an injured LaRon Landry, kept the drive alive and gave Houston another chance on third down. They converted and on first down Horton was beaten by Joel Dreessen for a 28-yard reception that set up Neil Rackers' game-winning 35-yard field goal. Houston completed its comeback for a 30-27 win.

Fourth quarter
The Redskins first drive of the fourth quarter was also their first three-and-out of the day. Running back Larry Johnson lost 10 yards on first down.

Houston took over on its own 34-yard line and on the first play Schaub hit Walter for 35 yards. The Redskins defense held, however, and eventually forced Houston to settle for a 43-yard field goal by Rackers that made it 27-20 with 11:10 remaining.

With Houston gaining momentum, Washington needed a drive to eat up the clock and put points on the board. At first, it appeared as though they would do just that.
McNabb hit Armstrong for 17 yards on first down and then Galloway for 19 on the next play. Clinton Portis rushed for two yards and then broke off a 12-yard run, and consecutive carries set up a third and 1 from the five-yard line. On the crucial snap, Jammal Brown jumped offside and pushed Washington back, and McNabb nearly threw an interception on third and 6.

Graham Gano came out for a 29-yard field goal, but it was blocked by Bernard Pollard to keep it a one-possession game.

London Fletcher sacked Schaub on the first play for a loss of eight yards, and the Redskins forced an incompletion on third down. Houston punted and the Redskins took over at the 49-yard line.

Washington could not pick up a first down on its next drive, however, as McNabb just barely missed an open Joey Galloway on a deep bomb into the end zone that would have made it a 14-point game
.
Houston took over on its own 19-yard line after a holding penalty on the return, and on first down Reed Doughty and LaRon Landry collided on what likely would have been an interception. It would prove to be costly.

On fourth and 10 from the 34, Schaub threw up a jump ball to Andre Johnson, who beat Phillip Buchanon and out-leaped Reed Doughty in the end zone for the game-tying touchdown.

Washington couldn't move the ball after taking over with two minutes left. A sack by Mario Williams, who beat rookie left tackle Trent Williams, pushed the Redskins back 14 yards, and Trent Williams injured his left knee on the play. A penalty made it third and 30. The Redskins punted and Houston took over with a chance to win with just 49 seconds remaining.

But the Texans couldn't move the ball and the game went into overtime.

Third quarter

The Texans opened the second half with the ball and again started a drive, only to see it stall deep in Redskins territory. Schaub found Kevin Walter for 21 yards early, then floated a pass over Andre Carter to Vonta Leach for 15 yards to move into Redskins territory.

On third and 1, Schaub sneaked for two yards to set up first down at the Redskins 32-yard line. But Foster ran for just one yard on first down and LaRon Landry stopped Andre Johnson for two yards on second down. A dropped pass on third down forced Houston to settle for a 47-yard Neil Rackers field goal to pull within 20-10.

McNabb continued to have a hot hand on Washington's first drive of the second half. He found Santana Moss for 11 yards on third and 9, then hit Anthony Armstrong for 20 yards on third and 10. After a short run, McNabb again converted another big play, this time finding Roydell Williams for 34 yards to move the Redskins to the Texans 22-yard line.

The catch was the first for Williams since 2007. He had been out of football for two seasons due to injury.

One play later, McNabb connected with Chris Cooley for a 22-yard touchdown, increasing his passing yardage to 340 and increasing the Redskins lead to 27-10 with 3 minutes and 51 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Houston took over and began to move again. Schaub found Johnson for 13 yards and wide receiver Kevin Walter for 14 yards on back to back plays. A penalty pushed the Texans back on second down and Brian Orakpo sacked Schaub for a loss of three to make it third and 15, but Schaub hit Foster on a screen pass that went 50 yards and on the final play of the third quarter Schaub hit Walter for a six-yard touchdown to pull Houston within 27-17.

Second quarter:

It took just one play for Houston to take the lead in the second quarter. Schaub found receiver Jacoby Jones in the front corner of the end zone for a five-yard touchdown pass and the extra point made it 7-6. The touchdown capped an 11-play, 77-yard drive that took 5 minutes 52 seconds.

The Redskins responded immediately. Veteran receiver Joey Galloway made his first catch as a Redskin and it was a big one. Galloway burned rookie Kareem Jackson down the middle of the field for a 62-yard reception - his longest reception since 2007.

After an incompletion on first down at the Texans 11-yard line, McNabb found Santana Moss for 10 yards to set up a first and goal from the one. Mike Sellers' diving attempt on first down was short, but Clinton Portis punched it in on the next play to give the Redskins a 13-7 lead with 12:29 remaining in the half.

The Redskins forced a punt on Houston's next drive, sacking Matt Schaub on first down and forcing an incompletion on third down when Andre Carter burst through the line and pressured Schaub.

Two quick passes to Santana Moss opened the Redskins next drive, but on third and 2 McNabb could not find Joey Galloway. It was the third time the Redskins could not convert on a third down in the game. A 51-yard punt from Josh Bidwell was returned 10 yards and Houston took over on its 20-yard line.

The Texans offense again showed how efficient it can be. Arian Foster opened the drive with runs of 10- and seven-yards, and Slaton carried for seven and two yards. Schaub then found Andre Johnson for 15 yards and Owen Daniels for 15 yards to move to the Redskins 24-yard line.

The Redskins defense tightened. Adam Carriker stuffed Foster for a loss of two on first down, and after a three-yard completion, Lorenzo Alexander sacked Schaub for a loss of six on third down. Neil Rackers then pushed a 47-yard field goal wide right and the Redskins took over on their own 35-yard line.

It took just two plays for McNabb to continue his big half. After barely missing Mike Sellers for a big gain on first down, McNabb hit Fred Davis for a 62-yard completion to the Texans one-yard line. The highlight of the play was Clinton Portis' downfield block on Eugene Wilson that freed Davis for another 15 yards.

Two plays later, it was Portis scoring his second one-yard run of the day to increase the Redskins lead to 20-7 with 1 minute 20 seconds remaining in the half.

Houston tried to put together a last-minute drive, but LaRon Landry's sack of Matt Schaub all but ended its chances. The clock ran out after a long completion and the Redskins went into the locker room with a 13-point lead.

First Quarter:
The Redskins opened the game by looking mostly to the air. Quarterback Donovan McNabb threw on six of the drive's eight plays. McNabb was perfect on the drive, completing all six passes for 55 yards.

McNabb first found fullback Mike Sellers on a 22-yard pass down the left sideline capped by Sellers hurdling two defenders. McNabb then found wide receiver Santana Moss for 13 yards, and after a two-yard run by Clinton Portis, McNabb connected again with Moss and Sellers on back-to-back plays for gains of nine and 10 yards.

With a first down at the 24-yard line, the Redskins' stalled and moved just one yard more, settling for a 42-yard field goal by Graham Gano to take a 3-0 lead.

Houston kick returner Steve Slaton inexplicably fielded Gano's kickoff at the one-yard line before stepping out of bounds, backing up the Texans for their first drive. Matt Schaub found Kevin Walter for 24-yards on the first play to move Houston out of the shadow of its own end zone, but two plays later Redskins cornerback Carlos Rogers stepped in front of a pass for an interception - Rogers' first since December 2008.

With the momentum from the turnover, McNabb faked a handoff to Portis and rolled out to find Chris Cooley wide open for a 35-yard gain that moved the Redskins to the seven yard line. From there, however, the offense again stalled. Portis was stonewalled for a loss of four on first down and then picked up two on second down before McNabb threw his first incompletion on third down. Graham Gano nailed a 27-yard field goal to increase the lead to 6-0.

Houston started its second possession on its own 23-yard line and immediately started moving down the field.

A steady mix of running back Arian Foster and Andre Johnson kept the ball moving. Schaub found Johnson for 18 yards on second down to move the ball to the 45 yard line, and Foster gained three yards on third and 2 to keep the chains moving. Another 14-yard pass to Johnson moved the Texans to the Redskins' 25 and Foster ran for 11 yards on second and 1 to set up first and goal from the five yard line. The quarter ended after LaRon Landry stuffed Foster for no gain.

This team has no heart, particularly in the secondary. I do not know why they even have Doughty in the secondary; he is useless. He is the major weakest link back there among the other cowards in that secondary, other than Landry. They are pathetic. I am not beating up on them only for one loss, but this is a pattern that we have seen over the last decade with this team that appears to never change that always lead to their demise. I guys Dallas will have to show the Skins how to beat the Texans next week because you know they are not going to lose three in a row; it’s the magic of the NFL.

1) anyone out there still doubt McNabb was worth it ? - didnt think so

2) how in Zues's butthole was Andre Johnson in single coverage on that 4th down? and against a safety (and not a particularly good one at that)

3) when Matt Turk was running around to kill the last few seconds of regulation, did anyone else think he still looked faster than Larry Johnson ? .. seriously, how did LJ make the final roster? runs like he's wearing cement shoes

When you lead by 17, you should win. The dynamic offense I saw in the first 3 quarters never resurfaced. Cut LJ totally ineffective, waste of a roster spot. Fred Davis did miss that guy on the block, but lets be honest, our DB's and safty's were overmatched and will be all year, could'nt stop anyone, and why would you leave single coverage on Johnson in the end zone, guys only there best player. Gotta win these game . Time to activate Torain and cut LJ !

This was a shocking loss. Houston had no business being in this game.

*blocked FG
*4 & 10 jump ball tossed up for a TD
*missed FG in overtime
*Joey Galloway slowing up on a wide open bomb for a TD from McNabb

The Redskins kicked the sh** out the Texans this game. This was just as bad as blowing the game against the Saints last year.

Hate to say it; the Redskins needed Hayneworth today. Absolutely zero pass rush outside of the blitz. So effing frustrating.

It's all about execution...against of the best teams in football. There's nothing to get worked up about. Seriously, when's the last time our offense drove 92 yards?

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | September 19, 2010 8:05 PM | Report abuse

Man, don't worry about the loss. We did a lot of great things in this game. Hopefully Trent doesn't miss at most a game. With us playing the Rams next week, we should be okay. Here is some more good news, these Texans play the Cowboys next week..... 0-3 anyone?!?!?!?! We have the lone Division win, so we are okay with losing this game. If the Giants lose tonight, we will still be in 1st place.

The week after that we have the Eagles....Big QB problem there. Game couldn't come at a better time, because with Kolb starting next week, Lord knows how he is gonna play. To be 3-1 would be nice, with two division wins, we should be sitting nicely in the East.

Add VJ83 and he will be ready the week after the Eagles game.....Some of those long throws that looked over thrown would have been caught with the long arms of VJ83.

Also, kicking two straight field goals instead of two TDs in the first two drives, hurt us.

Kubiak tried to give us the game when he passed up that FG in overtime AND SHANAHAN REFUSED HIM. Shanahan insisted on getting the 'L'.

We haven't learned how to finish a game. Not scoring in the 4th when we on their 10 killed us. Fred Davis didn't even get a hand on Pollard. Blocking is not the guys strong suit. This team is in bad need of a strong safety too. Why Shanahan didn't call time out to try and ice the kicker is a mystery. Nice to finally see the offense get going, but we have no balance. Thought the team would be able to run the ball this season, but it's nowhere in sight. Hope T. Williams is OK.

The Skins needed this game. They could have been the sole leader of this division, depending on the Giants game tonight, having the Cowboys 2 back. Yes, it is a long season, but when you give up nearly 500 yards, you got to smell trouble for the Skins in weeks to come. And McNabb will have very few, if any more, good games he had today. Another thing, Haslett needs to teach this team how to tackle.

Remember folks, it's going to take a little patience, but this team is heading in the right direction. There's no way we go 92 yards for a TD.

After these two games it sure appears that the team is headed in the right direction.

We've stabilized our QB, we have more threats offensively, the running game needs work. This offense and last year's is like night and day.

Defensively, it's going to take awhile for the 3-4 to be fully implemented. Yeah, we need better safeties and our pass rush is weak. But that Houston offense is in the top half of the league's.

I'll take this roster headed in this direction over last year or two any day.

Its a long season. Its not like the Skins were going to go undefeated. I can take comfort in knowing we have a real QB and a real offense. I'm sure nobody even expected the Skins to be in this game. I expect them to beat the Rams next week, but hopefully Williams is ok.

Wow! We had this one in the bag. There's a whole lot of plays I want back, mainly that double reverse, don't think that was the time for that play, someone tell Mike Sellers to stop leaving his feet on short goal line plays, OL need to remember the snap count, Hicks and Brown killed us.

Reed and Doughty are absolutely horribe in coverage especially poor Doughty, Moore needs to heal up fast! Laron Landry was and is a beast. Hope Trent Williams is not seriously injured. Mc Nabb was in a zone.

Pass rush was absent when we needed it. The secondary can't cover anybody, at least they didn't this game. Let's reload and get ready for Sam Bradford and the Rams. HTTR

P.S.- Who the hell did Larry Johnson think he was reversing field, it looks like he's running in quicksand. Time to get some younger fresher legs.

HUH? texans got lucky. yeah, LUCKY. we "won" the game but stupid kubiak called that damn timeout. Not Shanny's fault Gano missed the second kick. I agree with kicking the FG because I believed Gano could hit it.. and he did... technically, that's just how it goes sometimes. If we didn't let that guy get free and block that kick then we win the game. It's the little things that are costing us.

We almost (should've won) and we had no run game whatsoever.

We have two very winnable games in the next two weeks: the Rams and Eagles (who gave up 32 points to the Lions). There's nothing to be worried about. There were a lot of good things, but we still need a lot to correct.

Alright lets be honest right now. The Texans went after our REAL weakness this week. Yeah you can try to blame Davis for missing that block or the overthrow on Galloway, but every time Houston needed a BIG play whether a first down or a bomb, they threw at Doughty(sp?). On the play where the pass was caught on Horton by the tight end, the SAFETY was LATE!!!! On the Bomb to tie the game, ITS Doughty defending. He was late reacting to plays the ENTIRE game. Last week in the Dallas game, He jumped outside when he was responsible for the INSIDE when Dallas scored their only TD! Honest, you have another corner in Barnes that doesn't seem to see the field. If Moore can't play next week, either put Buchannon or Barnes at safety. We know at least the Barnes can hit. On the offensive side of the ball, we have to get the running game on track. LJ needs to be cut immediately. We do not have a game breaking back on the roster. We lack speed in the backfield. I love Portis's toughness at running between the tackles, but he won't break it for a big run and take it to the house. We should have kept Willie Parker and let LJ go. McNabb did an excellent job. You almost can't ask for more from him. He made the big plays early and often in the game and did not turn the ball over. I like that all the receivers actually touched the ball and go open. Now we have to worry about if Williams is ok to protect the blindside of McNabb. If not, move Brown on that side and I guess put Heyer on the other side. At least McNabb can see if Heyer gets beat and avoid the rush. The front 7 with the help of Landry, who again was all over the field making plays, got plenty of pressure except on those play action bootlegs. DEs and LBs have to stay home on those plays.

Redskins are not good enough to overcome mental mistakes.

Fred Davis has got to make a block on the FG. Plain and simple. That's my one play of the game that cost Redskins the game.

Predator48's offside after Dirty Thirty knocked himself from the game was a close second. Simply fukcing stupid.

All in all, while the loss stings like a bicth, I'll take it. They generally played well and the offense looked good, as i expected.

Hoping that my hope that AH sat because he's involved in a trade that will be announced tomorrow or Tuesday isn't completely delusional.

Best case loss: out of conference.

Go Payton. Colts win, and Redskins are in first place in the NFC East.

They are who we think they are. Good enough to be in every game against any team, but not good enough to win after stupid mistakes and squandered opportunities.

Let's step back from the ledge for a moment. We now have a QB that can lead and deliver, a coach that doesn't look dazed in the headlights, and two coordinators who have guts and brains. Anyone who isn't seeing progress isn't paying attention.

That was the sort of game we would have lost by 17 points with JC at the helm. McNabb is going to win games for us this year. He has quick feet and a quick mind, something no sane individual would say about Jason. And I'm not a Jason basher, just a realist. McN just makes throws and quick decisions that separate him from the average to crappy qb's that dominate the league. Professional football is back in Washington!!!

Schaub is the real deal, give him credit. But our D is very suspect so far. Poor run and pass defense, hopefully to get better with the return of Kareem (of Wheat) Moore. Doughty is just horrible in coverage.

Landry likes to hit anyone, regardless of jersey color. He nailed Rogers in the back as many times as he nailed a Texan.

Well it's pretty obvious you're a stat hound and not a football (or even sports) mind. Dallas ran up the yards while the Skins sat on the lead, this is true. The reason this happens in sports is because when one team is losing (Dallas) while another is winning (Washington), the needs of each team become different. I mean it's basic intuitive logic. But if game progression, scoring distribution, and tactical implementation mean nothing to you, then believe Dallas outplayed Washington all you want. And it's pretty obvious you don't take into account the nuances of each individual game because of your analogy between the Dallas game and the Houston game, so we'll leave it at that.

The team played hard. If there could be anything good coming out of this loss is that the team plays hard, and the scheme offensively is sound. On defense, this team relies on Rak, LL to get after the QB. They need another player to get it going in the front seven, so Rak can cause more havoc when it is a critical play. The team is close, but missing two or three players that would make them very good.

2 deep zone. The CB (31) carries the WR for 15 yds and then turns him over to the S (37). The problem with that play is that Haslett should have ran that D on the other side of the field and doubled Johnson. Everybody in the stadium knew the ball was coming his way except 31 & 37. We need to get 41 healthy because 37 is an avg SS and a liability at FS.

I thought they should have cut Horton and kept Holmes because he's a FS, but apparently they like the was 48 plays teams.

It's going to take time.

Yeah, this one got away from them. They needed some guys to step up and make plays and they didn't. Houston did, and that's the game.

But Houston is going to score 30+ points on a lot of defenses this year.

The problem for the Skins is lack of depth. When they have to go 2 and 3-deep, they really drop off.

A game like this early in the season may prove to be a good thing for the remainder of the season. Right now the Redskins are playing better than most people predicted before the season started.

"The problem for the Skins is lack of depth. When they have to go 2 and 3-deep, they really drop off.Posted by: SteveMG"

That's a fair assessment. The result of those weak drafts with too few picks, and the tendency to spend way too much on a few superstars, neglecting the reserves.

It's the sort of problem that takes a couple seasons to fix. I imagine that frustrates Shanahan as much as it does the fans.

0-1 without Big Al and 1-0 with him. Love him or hate him, he is the difference to this defense. I honestly think Hanyeworth skipped the game on purpose to teach Shanny a lesson. Heck, he has nothing to lose. And since when was the last time th Skins ever gave up 500 yards??? This says two things, we need hayneworth and we shouldn't had changed our defense to 3-4 unless we have 4 legit linebackers.

Someone please explain to me how we end up with our worst defensive player on the field covering the best receiver in the NFL

Posted by: scampbell1975 | September 19, 2010 8:25 PM

It's a zone, that's his spot.

Posted by: mack1 | September 19, 2010 8:51 PM

I guess my point was "Why the hell is Reed Doughty still on this team?" or, "Why the hell would you call a defense that let's that happen?" Take your pick, they're both valid.

Way to F%$kin snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm starting to think Hayensworth has a point, our defense f$%kin sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New coach. New QB. New GM........

Same old Redskins!!!!!!!!

I am embarrassed to be a fan today.

The defense sold out to stop the run and got shredded through the air. That is what happens when you are weak up the middle of a 3-4.

I guess Houston's secondary really is that bad.

Just to keep things in perspective I see that JC got pulled after the first half in Oakland after 99 yds.and 1 INT.

We had defense last week and offense this week. Next week maybe we get both. Disappointing as that was, I still feel pretty good about this team. Coach and QB are making a big difference.

"We gave up 60 yards rushing. There was no running in this game. If you actually watched, you would've seen that both passers combined for about 1000 yards.Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake"

LOL don't know if it's a good idea to reply to somebody called MyPostIDisAfake. Could be Sarah Palin. But here goes: when the Skins get 18 yards on the ground, that's not good, regardless of what the other team does. When the Skins give up ground to runs on several of their opponents' important drives, that's not good either.

Coming off last week's runfest against Indy, it was likely Houston would 'regress towards the mean', as the geeks say, with significant less rushing success. Nobody should be surprised by that. But they still outgained Washington, and that's a cause for concern.

There goes the undefeated season; should have won: Blocked FG. Better to lose to an AFC team than other loss options. Is LJ Marcus Allen circa '83 SB? 1-0, NFC East. HTTR

These officials gave Houston some help today on close calls.
The NFL needs to look closely at how replays are handled. Basically, the referee is asked to find a reason to rule that his own crew was wrong. How likely is that? Especially when he's got a member of that crew standing beside him at the replay monitor?
The timeout that called back Gano's 52 yarder was about as dirty as they come. Icing is part of the game, but the idea of icing is that you call the timeout before the teams have set to begin the play. In that way, the whistle blows before the ball can be snapped, and the ball doesn't get snapped, and the kicker doesn't kick.

They could've used a push up the middle, and AH if playing well would've done that. But who knows how committed to playing well AH is? This team needs to find someone to bring consistent pressure on a regular bases opposite of Rak. Carter had a couple of good pressures early, but fade as the game went on. Hopefully he continues to get more comfortable. Also waiting for the day they set Chris Wilson free.

any punk who post a negative comment about the skins so far this season is A. Not a skins fan or B. Is not a skins fan.

New GM, Coaches, QB, Offense, Defense with wholes here and there from the last 10 years and we played 2 of the top teams in the NFL down to the wire.

F-U to anyone who wants to pick that battle apart and try and say they suck in any way!!

GO SKINS. Yes it sucks to lose but I'll take that loss to any of the past 10 years!!

PLAYERS: Keep fighting. Keep learning. Keep playing that system. YOU ARE A GOOD TEAM. Hold your heads up high.

TO THE FANS IN THE STANDS: WTF?? Where were you??? How could they even hear in THAT game. You ALL suck!! We needed that extra man and we did NOT hear YOU!!

GO SKINS!!!

I would chalk up the reason behind this loss on their passing game, not their run game. There were hardly any significant runs by the Texans today. Andre Johnson and the other guy Walker had monster games. The biggest contribution made by Foster was that 50 yard screen pass, which should've been stopped but two guys missed tackles.

Lastly, I'm a regular poster on here. I don't simply post only to bash the team after a loss.

Thanks for the chuckle. The Redskins were outplayed last week (and won). They were a little better this week, but were still outplayed (and lost). The Redskins are 1-1 and will likely get better over time.

Posted by: ahwyatt | September 19, 2010 9:12 PM | Report abuse

wow wouldn't let me submit it..

but the timeout before kick is stupid. The ball was snapped, the kick went through. If they wanted to call a timeout before then call it before they line up. Don't call it right when the ball is being snapped. It seems so dumb and wrong to lose a game because the other coach called a timeout.

"Well it's pretty obvious you're a stat hound and not a football (or even sports) mind.posted by psps23"

Ouch. Stats can be pretty helpful in understanding what happens in a game, but you have to drill down past the basic game totals to more advanced measures.

There's a problem with basing judgments solely on observation of a network or cable telecast, too. Two problems actually: 1) you're usually not sure what the play or the coverage was supposed to be, so it's difficult to evaluate how it was executed, and 2) the TV crews show you a very restricted view.

I haven't even gotten to the subjectivity factor yet.

Most NFL coaches won't even comment on a player until a day or two after the game, when they've had time to cool off and look at the tape.

What we have here is more along the lines of post-game ventilation.

We haven't seen a game like this since 2005, where the Skins are actually going toe to toe with one of the elite offenses in the league.

Yes, it sucks to lose, but so did Dallas :)

Great game...only glaring problems are the running game (can't run out the clock without an effective running back) and the kicking game. Passing game without compare to ANY Skins offense going back 20 years.

Anyone catch Jason Clownble's benching today? Haha. Career backup QB from this point forward. You heard it here first folks (last year)!

We'll take your word for it. So your point is that Houston had a better passing game than Washington. Well, we knew that going in, didn't we? They finished first in the NFL last season.

Fact remains that Washington wasn't able to run the ball when they wanted to. That fact isn't altered by Houston's relative lack of running success. It was a problem against Dallas, and a problem today.

Posted by: Samson151 | September 19, 2010 9:19 PM | Report abuse

It was the two field goals early on. Clinton had a couple of no gainers. Skins have improved for sure but the running back position needs some wheels. Lastly, #23 doesn't want to put a hat in there - period!

Skins were dancing around second quarter... again. When the Skins learn to put someone away, they will be a new face. Lastly, Donovan is a winner - he didn't win today - but he brings a new confidence.

This team is drastically improved from last year. We had arguably the best team in the AFC beat, but we let them off the hook. We will learn from this game and continue to get better.

Posted by: RedskinJim1 | September 19, 2010 9:25 PM | Report abuse

The problem is the the fact that we went into this season with 1 legit FS and he's hurt. We also continue to get pushed around like 90 lb weaklings on the DL. The DL overpursues too hard and the backside doesn't contain on both sides. The DBs looked confused at times and lost Andre Johnson of all people!
The running game is something I'm not concerned with because the passing game was working today. They still need to get it going but today they went with the passing game.
Overall, the I like what I saw on the O; the D needs to dip that ice cream style of play in liquid nitrogen!

yup.. it's sad Heyer is still on this team. He sucks.

The kicking unit keeps costing us.. last week the fumbled snap almost cost us, this week Fred Davis cost us with him just letting pollard by him... he didn't need to block him, just nudge him enough but that cost us big time and was ultimately the reason why we lose.
