Redskins Evaluate Performance

This being preseason, Redskins players and Coach Jim Zorn were available at halftime. Here's what they had to say, via Dan Steinberg's typing and Redskins' PR:

Jason Campbell: "We felt good. We felt comfortable. I thought the offensive line did a good job of protecting. We came out and completed our first two passes. That incompletion to Devin [Thomas], I had to try to get rid of it and it was a good defensive play on their part. We almost came up with a big play. The offensive line gave me good time on one of them and I tried to get it to Marques Hagans on the other side of the field. I wish we could have timed that up and connected to keep moving the ball and get some points on that drive. I felt like we were moving the ball with the plays that we called. We didn't attack them just yet because we were just getting into a rhythm, but I felt good. I felt really comfortable. Having some experience helps a lot."

Zorn on Campbell: "He did well. He finished strong. He did a nice job keeping his focus down the field. I wish that we could have gotten the first-team offense into the end zone."

Zorn on the first half: "I was pleased with the pass protection, but we need to finish drives. We have to do a better job of hanging onto the ball. We dropped some passes and had the fumble on a potential scoring drive. We have to earn the right to finish a drive. We are not finishing drives because of dropped passes and a fumble. But, I liked our pass protection and I thought our defense did a nice job holding the Ravens in the red zone."

Zorn on Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas:"They both did a nice job of getting open and snagging the ball and making plays. They are both big targets and helped move the offense down the field."

DeAngelo Hall on the first team holding Ravens to FG: "You know what, we were on the goal line and that's when it counts. We are trying to be the No. 1 defense and it's no secret, we know we have to stet it up, especially down there on the goal line. I went into the huddle and told the guys, "Hey, this is where you make your name, right here.' The ball came outside. We kind of knew they wanted to do something similar to that. I was just able to play the defense that was called and make a good play."

Hall on how he feels: "I felt good. For some reason, this uniform just feels right. It just feels right. I am glad to be back in it and hopefully be back in it for the rest of my career."

Ravens QB Joe Flacco: "Our line did a heck of a job for being their first time out there. I didn't have to do anything but sit in the pocket and make the throws."

Cindy, was Lorenzo Alexander hurt while playing? What position? And any word regarding your inquiry on his moving to the O-line? Thanks!

My quick take.

Orakpo, Jarmon, Wonder twins good.

Everything else...bad!

Skins did not play suddenly in the first half. Ravens have been playing suddenly every snap. Its like the Ravens backups are trying to make the team or something. Skins just seem sluggish.

no confidence in the offense at all. can't imagine anyone on the sidelines really believes the offense will be above average this year.

and colt throws a pick.

Starting to agree with you about ARE... The blocking doesn't seem to be there. The return man can't do it by himself...

Another upside for Vick in going to Philly is that their fans would likely beat up any potential PETA protestors in the parking lot.

As for this game... Well, if Davis is going to have 2 catches and fumble them both, preseason is the time to do it.

Vick to the Eagles... holy crap. With his suspension, we'll get to see him maybe once vs the Skins?

Is there any chance that someone up here can post the first half of this game on youtube? Me being ignorant of tech of this kind, I don't know how much of a pain in the ass this would be...

They were okay, Sunday night on ESPN. But I find them intolerable tonight for some reason.

Oh and this for t_e, and the others that believe that disinformation, like dryland, is a myth:

"The team, though, is a surprise landing point for Vick. It was among 26 clubs that said there was no interest in Vick, but that may have changed when backup Kevin Kolb strained a knee ligament earlier this week. Kolb’s injury isn’t serious and he’s expected to return next week. The Eagles also have veteran A.J. Feeley"

But they only signed VICK because he was the best choice of the remaining QB's out there, right? And they're only going to play him at QB, right?

Since I've listed your obvious comebacks, go another route for the reason they chose Vick in particular, okay?

Disinformation. Maybe the Redskins were being straight up, but the cut & paste proves my point.

Posted by: RedDMV | August 13, 2009 9:51 PM | Report abuse

Oops, Skins-Eagles in week 7, so we'll probably see Vick then, at least on the sideline. And then again in week 12 at their place.

Color me impressed by first team...O-line did well in pass protection. Campbell looked poised...Defense did well (they got all their plays against Tryon, who btw should be cut). Orakpo, Kelly & Jarmon did well. Considering Rogers/Haynesworth/Portis and some other folks didn't play, I think we did fine.

For those who like to scream about starting Colt Brennan like rabid Republicans trying to shout down town hall meetings, tonight's Colt performance should make you sit down and quiet your mouths.

Please, just stop with Colt. He is far from being even Considered for starting a game in the NFL.

I'm not deaf, but it wasn't that hard to read Bugel's lips after that offside/half the distance penalty against Devin Clark. I believe the audio tape would reveal "SHTIHEAD! MOTHERFAAAER!" Joe loves the violence crashing.

Stop complaining guys, you just hate the redskins, why don't you become ravens fans! Snyder and vinny have it all figured out, you just don't get their master plan because you're so full of negativity. The reason the redskins didn't do well is because jason lacanfora and jason reid can't stop hating on what is clearly a brilliant front office. also, dick cheney 2012.

This is my perspective of the redskins. Fire coach Zorn and get a real offences coach. Off with coach Zorn head. It don't work for the redskins. Apparently the offensive strategy that coach Zorn has implemented is not working. Next year, we will have both a new coach and a new QB if Campbell doesn't get his game together. The line is a problem but we didn't fix it. We are hoping a few people turn into starters and if that does happen, its all on Campbell and Zorn. Good luck SKINS! The defense is striving to be number 1 with a 26 ranked offense. 8-8 if we lucky!

Save your money on tickets or Direct TV.. sell or cancel both and enjoy time with your loved ones (or yourself). This season is a set-up-to-fail-unload-JC season while we waste a first place Defense on a last place Offense.
We have a QB coach pretending to be a Head Coach saving Snyder a ton of cash while he waits for Shanahan in 2010.

0-4 in the preseason is not necesarily a death sentence, but they were disorganized and to reiterate Zorn "soft".The skins performance thursday night reminded me of the game vs. the Patriots 2 years ago I believe,Complete domination and heartbreaking for a fan like me.Even worse was last years home game for the steelers at Fed Ex.Face it, our beloved Redskins are irrelevent and a bottom feeder until they prove otherwise. So sad.I still love this defense's potential.
