"Donovan McNabb expects to be cheered in Philly"

He also thinks that Clinton Portis took a dive to protect the ball.

McNabb would be booed in Philly even if he shows up with the cure for cancer and AIDS.

Philly hasn't really impressed me THAT much and will be facing tougher teams starting this week.

That said, take the Iggles and the over and bet the kids college fund.

How many offensive players on the Redskins played 0 NFL games last year?
T. Williams
Lichtensteiger
J. Brown
Armstrong
Torrain
K. Williams

How many played less than half the snaps for their team last year?
Galloway
Cooley
Portis
A. Hicks

Considering McNabb played 0 snaps for the Redskins last year, that leaves us with Raebach, Moss and Sellers as the only offensive starters that played more than half the season with the 'skins last year.

Factor Bidwell and Gano into the equation as well.

Sure feels like a rebuilding year to me.

Did you SEE what our blocking was like w/o him in the game?? It actually cost us the momentum, but no one really wants to talk about that, do they.

Clinton is your best bet on the ground to get yards and your bomb through the air. He should be in unless he asks out. Period.

Dude, obviously the point of this flew right over your head. No one cares about 1 play. This has become a pattern that can only be explained by a couple things.

1. Either CP flat out can't run anymore and has no confidence that he will be able to hold onto the ball...

..or...

2. The man has an actual medical condition affecting his balance as evidenced by him falling forward (usually untouched or after little contact) or plays like the one in question.

Either way, dude has a big, big problem and no matter how you look at it, the ability to pick up a blitz isn't going to save your roster spot.

And by the way, wrist my azz! Andre Johnson is taking a needle before each game and at halftime IN HIS ANKLE so he can stay on the field. And he's a freaking WR!!!!

Face it you CP lovers...dude is doner than done.

Posted by: No_Punt_Intended | September 28, 2010 1:44 PM | Report abuse

Add 4th floor, section104, and dcwun to the list of CP apologists. It's ok for him to do a belly flop because somebody (s) is going to attempt to tackle him. What about when got in the open field against the girls or when he the corner on a LB against the Texans? Since when do coaches tell their RBs not WRs to flop on the turf like a tuna when a defender approaches.

Face it, he's great in pass pro but he's completely lost his burst, balance, and is afraid of contact WITH the ball. He's ok blocking someone because he can control the contact. It's the contact that he doesn't see coming that he's scared of.

Posted by: Diesel44 | September 28, 2010 1:44 PM | Report abuse

I haven't seen alot of Portis falling down....I've seen plenty of penatration by the Defense @ the LOS where when CP gets the handoff, he is hit after a step or two.......

I mean this is one play and have seen worst than this that doesn't get such attention.......

...I mean this to me is one of those things where I would say, if you don't like the guy, you don't like the play......

So, how do we contain Mike Vick? Have Landry be the spy? Line the OLB's farther out? Play more nickel to have more speed on the field?

You're not watching the same Portis I am. He leans forward when he runs, which is really a bad thing for a cutback runner. He has to be able to keep his feet under him, retain his balance or those runs won't be there. From what I have seen of Torain, he has some speed, but he could do a better job of spotting the crease. Still, I like his game except for the pass blocking. No one pass blocks like Portis.

CP isn't as fast as he was when he was younger....true.

I didn't see any belly flops in the prior 2 games, so I can't comment.....I see a horrible offensive line in the run game though...but yeah, lets focus our attention on Portis because he doesn't have Chris Johnson speed......NOTE TO RI - NOT VERY MANY HAVE CHRIS JOHNSON SPEED....

It's funny the same one who'll defend Shanahan to death up here, are the very same people ripping Portis for doing what Shanahan TOLD him to do.

We have been so accustomed to a "loser" mentality in this town that some would justify an NFL RB admitting that he went down on purpose in the open field while trying to protect the ball.

There is no excuse for that and I can't think of ONE other RB (starter or 3rd string) that would do that.

Why are we afraid to say that Clinton Portis is past his prime and no longer an elite running back?

Out of all the teams that have won multiple SBs (3 or more), I think the fans that get the "arrogance" tag attached the least are 49er fans. Why, I have no idea...

People hate:

Dallas Fans
Patriots Fans
Steelers Fans
Giants Fans
Packers Fans
Redskins Fans

It's funny the same one who'll defend Shanahan to death up here, are the very same people ripping Portis for doing what Shanahan TOLD him to do.

How "ironic".

Posted by: RedDMV | September 28, 2010 2:34 PM

Yeah, Shanahan said "Protect the ball" and Clinton heard "Take a dive." Shame on Shanahan.

My wife said "Clean up the yard, but don't spend too much time on it." I heard "Enjoy the football games." Shame on her for not being clear with me.

rickyroge

"Why are we afraid to say that Clinton Portis is past his prime and no longer an elite running back?"

I would.

If we could 'go to the tape,' I bet I could find about 5 runs where it appeared Portis had enough space to 'bust open' for a long run.

He 'tripped' to protect himself from getting 'hawked' from behind--and he won't admit it.

Thing is, I don't think he has to have big runs to succeed.

Toss him the ball out of the backfield.

Run 'sprint-draw' type plays that let him find a hole to the wide side of the offense.

Finally, give him the ball on the regular in the 3rd quarter--in both the Texans/Rams games, he seemed to make headway.

In my mind, a back like Portis who can 'grind' out yards is just as good as a guy who can 'take it to the house.'

I wouldn't be mad who gets their first...now the media and the Hamsters need to get use to this system of RBs sharing the carries more evenly....or even seeing Torrain more in the 1st 3 QTRS and alot of CP26 pounding in the 4th....Doesn't matter

....All that matters are Wins....

Co-sign on all of that. I hope to see a heavy dose of RT in the Eagles game, and for the love of God can we get Fred Davis and Devin Thomas in there!

Again, if we beat the Eagles we are in first place!

YouTube the SNL skit w/ Katy Perry wearing the Elmo t-shirt. Now that's some serious 1st Rd talent.

Little know fact-beep-beep actually taught 4th grade Math shortly after graduating from Duke. One of his prize pupils was Ronald Regan. RR actually credited beeps with the whole trickle down economics thing. You see beeps was caught watching the boys "trickle", he then enrolled in the masters program @ GT and has been bitter ever since.

Beep-beep's Nickname in at GT was deep throat which is ironic because he taught Dick Nixon language arts. Therefore I'm calling the CP26's belly flop and subsquent benching......Wrist Gate.

MS told CP26 to belly flop when a defender approaches...GTFO. He may of said to just go down if someone is holding you and another guy is trying to strip the ball, but no way would any coach tell you to do it in the open field.

Exactly.

Maybe it's time for the offensive line to call Clinton Portis out.

"It's easy to look like crap as an offensive line when your running back falls on purpose at the first threat of contact."

I swear to god, if the RI Webcast wants to be viable, there needs to be something done about the sound quality. It is horrendous, especially when the discussion gets lively.

I stopped listening when Lavar used the word, "empathy".

We're talking about Philly, the city where shooting you in the head is considered a sign of brotherly love because it's better than being burned alive.

EMPATHY?!?! Are you out of your MIND?!

Sure feels like a rebuilding year to me.

Posted by: jgarrisn

All except for we got most of the D back and they were a top 10 defense. The only reason we won ANY games last year was the D. And that will have to be our formula going forward. If the running game can just gel a little, to put us in 3rd and short, and we can shut down Philly's McCoy on ground, and keep the air attack reasonable, I like Skins chances against Philly. Their OLine is suspect.
