Redskins Issue Statement

The Redskins have released a statement from executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato. It states: "We met with Jason [Campbell] today and had a candid discussion. We told Jason that when [Denver quarterback] Jay Cutler became available we, like many other NFL teams, spoke with the Broncos. We are all on the same page and we are moving forward."

no spin zone:
We spoke with JC to let him know that we tried to bring in another young QB. He knows we don't really want him and wants to have a great season in his contract year, so he can get more money elsewhere since we never take care of our own players.

Revised:

"Dan and I understand that we have one 10 win season in about a decade. Despite that glaring statistic, we still feel the need to devalue the draft and try to win via inconsistency among player and coaching personnel"

Like many other NFL teams?

You mean the Cardinals, Bengals, Giants, Eagles, Cowboys, Steelers, Colts, Chargers, Falcons, Panthers, Seahawks, Dolphins, Bills, Saints, Ravens and Chiefs also spoke with the broncos too? Wow, I didn't know all those teams wanted Cutler as well.

Posted by: REDneckSKINhead | April 3, 2009 3:11 PM | Report abuse

What. a. frigging. joke. The combined warmth, intelligence and integrity of Snyder/Vinny would not even fill up Danny's meager codpiece, which, if his running of the Skins is any indication, must be exceedingly small. Those same attributes of Jason Campbell, however, now stand out even more. I hope he has a great year then moves on to an organization that 1) will treat him well and 2) will allow him to win. Unfortunately, I doubt he'll get either here.

Posted by: DickCheneysDutchOvenCookies | April 3, 2009 3:13 PM | Report abuse

So he can't draft for {four letter word that shall not be used}. He's horrible with personnel management. And this is his press release. When unemployment is as 8.3%, how on earth does Vinny Cerrato even have a job!!!

I mean really, what does he do correctly?

Posted by: kingtutts | April 3, 2009 3:14 PM | Report abuse

How would Vinny "Moron" Cerrato look if a team had given us a 2nd rounder for Campbell and we still didn't get Cutler??

Posted by: RedskinJim1 | April 3, 2009 3:15 PM | Report abuse

Vinny: Jason, please come in. Have a seat, can I get you some coffee, a cigar, anything.

Jason: I am good, whats up I am in the midst of working out with our WR's, trying to get them to break their routs in the right rhythm, then Cooley and I are gonna watch some game film of him in the end zone to see if we can get our TD problems worked out.

Vinny: Well I just want to say, I am sorry, I am sorry, we saw something shiny and I am sorry, I am so so so sorry.

Jason: Look I am a man, I can handel it.

Vinny: I am sorry.

Jason then b**chslaps vinny and walks out of the room.

What do you expect for Vinny to hold Jason's hand? Its a business, trades happen all the time. If Elway was on the block back in the early 90's than anyone could be on the block. Now i'm glad they didnt make the move but I have nothing wrong with Vinny's statement.

Here's where Redskins fans lives suck: You don't up and root for another NFL team, that's not how it works. So we're stuck with dumb and dumber running the show for the next 35 years and that's the way it will be. Even if Vinny is fired in the next 2-5 years, accountability starts at the top and that's not going to change. We're stuck in a bad marriage with 2 mortgages and 4 children to put through college and your wife won't let you get a divorce. That's the life of a Redskins fan.

For the love of all that's good, please don't pay for a WR who doesn't have enough sense to (a) not wear sweatpants to a club and (b) carrying a freaking gun in your sweatpants with the safety off. Moron.

While we need a big, reliable WR to take pressure of Santana and open up Randel-El and Cooley a bit, we do not need a head case. I'd rather live with Thomas and Kelly than deal with Plaxico.

No problem getting Holt, tho! Classy guy and a hard working WR who could probably help our sophomore WRs improve.

Posted by: imageaid | April 3, 2009 3:32 PM | Report abuse

Yes, we are all on the same page that the FO wants a new QB. Classless....

Posted by: russberlin65
=====================================

How is it Classless to want a new quarterback? Campbell is in the last year of his contract and maybe the skins don't feel he's worth $10 million plus a year. Jansen's under contract for the next few years yet the Skins seem to be looking for a new RT is that classless?? The problem wasn't trying to upgrade at quarterback the problem was giving up so many draft picks to do so. If Cutler were a FA or a real "Franchise qb" was available (without giving up picks) i'd be all for adding him over Campbell. But it didn't make sense to give up on our future for Cutler who is maybe only a small upgrade over Campbell. You can read my thoughts on the trade at www.steveospeak.blogspot.com

I've been very critical of Vinny. SOme may have gotten the impression I think he has no skills.

The new, Kinder Cork feels obliged to tell you I do not feel that way.

I deeply respect the fact that Vinny can talk out of both sides of his mouth while patting himself on the back at the same time.

Lot's of folks coming to Soup's defense through this ordeal, perhaps rightly so. But Campbell hasn't had the success of Cutler, nor does he have the confidence, the moxie some might say. Forget wins and losses for a second. How many more 3-4 TD games has Cutler had? How many more 300, 400 yard games than Campbell?

Comparing how each reacts to possibly being dealt is like comparing apples and oranges. Cutler has earned the right to be pissed, Campbell not so much. Sure he's probably upset, but he just hasn't shown the potential to be an elite QB...yet.

If anything, I think this has a positive impact on Campbell. He knows he's got to bust his tail now, doing more of the things that Cutler does well like getting rid of the ball quickly. Otherwise no new contract (not that he'd want it) and/or he'll end up a backup on another team.
Maybe just maybe this will end up a huge positive for the team and the young QB.

I am no mega fan of the skins FO, but I am confident they won't pursue Plex.

I think the Giants were P-Oed that he didn't take a plea bargain with some jail time that would have been planned around the off season and decided to fight the charges at the latest hearing this week, thus delaying the obvious. They waited to see how that was going t go. All the legal experts up here (nyc) say he was an idiot to not plea. So the Giants cut there losses now. Also the fans hate him, and with the new PSL fees the giants are floating they need good will.

If Cutler was a Joe Montana or Peyton Manning maybe just maybe it would have been understandable. But Cutler? Screw those guys. Danny please sell the team. If you are a devout Redskin Fan then please sell the team and get out. How about that Jason Taylor move? What the hell was that? Stop going after the stars. Haven't you learn your lessons. What the hell is wrong with your brains. I am so pissed off and embarassed again for the Redskins. Once again you have made us the laughing stock of the NFL. STOP IT!!!!!!!! I wonder if they told Zorn they went for Cutler? Vinny and Danny are despicable and scum. You show that you have no faith in JC or Colt who was drafted because Jim Zorn wanted Colt and they let Zorn have his one choice way down in the 6th round. Do you think for one minute they wanted Colt? No way! What a slap in the face to both their QB's. You know they will draft Sanchez or someone else......scum!

Wonder who will do more time: Stallworth for running a guy over while drunk or Plax for shooting himself in the leg. I'll go with the easy pick in Donte. At least Plax is only going to lose money, he won't have to fork over his entire fortune to a victim's family.

Here is what we learned from this whole episode.

It is clear to me the GM Vinny experiment was over at the end of last year.

Dan Snyder started trying to trade for J Cut and then called vinny in, and then after a hour they called Zorn.

We went nuts in Free agency and lost a ton of Depth guys, (verry Dan)

So basicly I think the Vinny era is over, we are back in the snyder era.

Kurt,

Even though I agree with the statement of "Danny, sell the team!!", he can't for too many reasons to list. The biggest two are simple.

1. No bank has any money to lend. Especially the billion dollars needed to buy the Skins/Fed Ex Field.

2. As stated by someone on this blog before, Megalomaniacs don't have the ability to be introspective and see nothing wrong with their actions. Hence all the Head Coaches in the past decade and 2 playoff wins since God knows when.

We all have dreams though...

The first mistake that proved we were heading the wrong direction is Haynesworth's deal. When you know that the team has no depth.. no oline... not enough linebackers.. and dends, dtakles...kicker...and punter.. why the f would you spent close to $180 million contract on 3 guys alone. How do these ppl make the whole team better.. We barely have enough money to sign rookies. Another mediocre season for the skins.

Skins fans have to realize that Danny-Boy is running the team and will always be from 6-10 to 10-6 without a second round playoff victory. The Skins will always be mediocre under HIM. It would be great if they could go a couple of years with bad records (3-13) and build a new team thru the draft instead of free agency.

Shame on you Jack Kent Cooke! Your refusal to pass on your Franchise to your children may have been the worst mistake of your brilliant career. Your once proud franchise is now in the hands of a raving idiot. Surely your heirs could not have done any worse than Mr. Dot Com.

I've lived in various Cities throughout America; yet, have always managed to remain a diehard Skins fan. But what I've watched transpire during the Snyder years sickens me to the core. I can bear rebuilding, maturation pains, etc. But a lack of class & respect? More than any fan can bear.

Posted by: edvar | April 3, 2009 4:43 PM

After Cooke died, and before it was sold to Snyder. He was the jerk who let Trent Green get away.

And it's not 100 million, it's closer to 45 mil - which I know I could live on BTW.

It would be a struggle after you pay all the taxes. As long as your wife is still employed you could probably make ends meet and maybe put a little away towards your retirement. As long as you didn't invest with Madoff, of course.

Love the comments today. Guess on Fridays most put the brain in sleep mode...

Greg, thanks for the laugh, really needed that!

I believe his son was unable to take care of Trent Green because he was TOO BUSY trying to secure financing for the team. Also, let's be honest -- the demise began -- not with loss of Joe Gibbs but the loss of one of the best GM's to ever evaluate talent, BOBBY BEATHARD. His successor, Charlie Casserly, is probably more responsible for the Trent Green fiasco than the owner.

curz, glad to help, I mean, we all know now that we're planning on drafting "sanchez, or someone"....you can't make that stuff up......

And the comments today differed from those the rest of the week? Hopefully, everyone here's putting their best thoughts into their work and Redskins Insider is a chance to act goofy without paying the consequences. That's my style, anyway.

Maybe. And Snyder fired Casserly. Unfortunately, he took Casserly's job, himself, and we all know how that has worked out.

Zorn should be elated this trade didnt go through and should stand behind campbell because if it had it would of been a sure out for him in the 2010 season, campbell will save his job this year for that reason, the unity between the two over the trade talks.

Someone stop me. I've posted more on this thread than periculum.

Well, now that we know we are drafting "someone" who played "college football", what's left to discuss?

As I said yesterday in here. It would be interesting to see Jim get a chance to be a head coach somewhere where he can be a part of a organization where they have the ownership and GM that know how to run a team. Hopefully this won't be his only opportunity. But at this stage of his career this could be it. And to see it wasted with this organization is sad.

Jim will have to win big to keep his job past this year with the big name coaches out there that I'm certain Snyder will be looking at. Although out of the ones available I only see Shanahan and Gruden working for this owner. Holmgren and Cowher I just don't see working for Snyder. They are just too wise for that and they don't need to put up with his ways of operating.

I love the Redskins and the history and I think we have some of the classiest players on this team. But after giving this ownership the benefit of the doubt for 10+ years I think their behaviour is despicable.
They are literally destroying this team piece by piece. I detest the Sundays anymore. Owner drips with hubris and he is too arrogant, dumb and stupid to know that he is clueless when it comes to football. His side kick has his head up his owners anal canal so deep that he gives the expression "brown nose" a new meaning. This whole thing feels hopeless.

We should be on the phone to the Bears to see what else can be ripped off.

Maybe the Bears will give us 3 No 1s for Portis

What Vinny didnt but, really wanted to say..

"We met with Jason [Campbell] today and had a candid discussion. We told Jason that when [Denver quarterback] Jay Cutler became available we, like many other NFL teams, spoke with the Broncos because we have no faith in you and dont want to score less points than the 0-16 Lions, again. If we did believe in you, you and your agent would of seen a Contract extension by now. So, even though you appear classy on the surface, you knew all along you were not in our plans for 2010. You are a great guy, but a lower 3rd tier QB (as our NFL ratings show). And without Brunell and Collins we would of never made it to the two playoffs during your tenure here. Unfortunately no other team would trade their 2009 Number 1 pick in exchange for you which prevented us from successfully competing with Chicago for Cutler.
We are all on the same page and we are moving forward to continue to search for an upper tier elite franchise QB that can lead us once again to the playoffs."

Patrick Ramsey signed with the Tennessee Titans. That's his fourth team, but at least he's still in the league. I'm looking for him to put up some big numbers.

He was the Jason Campbell of the 90's... Strong arm, great potential, even greater PR.. But, just couldnt lead a team and/or make it past a second Read / Progression.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++
