Redskins keep outplaying Saints
A slim one-touchdown lead and only 15 minutes to go.
The Redskins, still playing strong on both sides of the ball, hold a 27-20 advantage after three quarters and show no signs of letting up.
Through three quarters, the Redskins have already put up a season-high point total, seen their quarterback match a career-high for touchdown passes and their No. 2 wide receiver set career marks for yards and touchdowns.
The Redskins put together scoring drives of 64 and 56 yards. The first resulted in Shaun Suisham's tie-breaking 28-yard field goal.
The quarter also provided a coming-out party of sorts for second-year receiver Devin Thomas. In the first half, he had only 15 yards on two catches but finished the quarter with 102 yards on six receptions. His seven-yard touchdown catch midway through the third was his second of the game and gave the Redskins a temporary 10-point lead.
The drive came courtesy of the Redskins' defense, which stopped the Saints' on fourth-and-one from the Washington 43-yard line. On the Redskins' ensuing possession, Campbell hit Thomas with a 40-yard pass down the sideline to set up the score.
Quarterback Jason Campbell finished the third quarter 22-of-33 passing for 304 yards. He had three touchdowns, no interceptions and hadn't been sacked a single time. His passer rating was 126.3.
For comparison, Drew Brees posted a 88.9 passer rating on 20-of-29 passing for 224 yards. He had a touchdown and an interception.
Through three quarters, the Redskins had outgained the Saints through the air and on the ground, posting 21 first downs compared with New Orleans' 14.

Bad third down call again, but I will take a two score lead at this point.

Fix the O line, find a starting running back? Is that where we really are with this team? Call me crazy and suddenly optimistic.
STILL FIRE VINNY!
Here is an idea.
Go to Holmgren, ask him to become president of FB ops. See if he wants to toss Vinny, find a real GM and he can figure out what to do with Zorn.

Sounds like a plan Alex. Whatever takes Dan out of the FB ops gets my vote.

So this is what a hurry up looks like, too bad it's not our offense.
Posted by: RomoLongballs | December 6, 2009 3:47 PM | Report abuse
that last drive should have been a damn TD. that way even if they score we just have to put up a FG to keep it at 2 scores with the clock going down.
now all the pressure will be on our Offense if they score on this drive.

Zorn still might be a good QB coach, but Sherman is obviously superior as OC..Zorn is learning from him..

why were the Skins playing prevent D (soft and back deep outside the 20) with only a 10 point lead and 10 minutes left?

Landry and CR22 talkin about double moves on the sideline.
Priceless

Once again, the Skins fold in the last two minutes. I'm tired of Landry strutting, then getting burned AGAIN on a double move (he and Rogers are the Double Move Twins.) And once again, Suisham chokes and shows why he's not a reliable kicker. 50 guys play their guts out, let down by two goats.

Change the racist name, and maybe you will change your luck! If I used the N-word as many times as in this article, I would be an outcast.

Landry = Marcus Washington, always celebrating the unspectacular play then getting burnt when it counts.
I'm curious to see if Campbell can keep producing consistently. The Raiders secondary will be a test.
