Redskins lead Chargers 14-13 at halftime

With the Chargers starters resting on the sideline, the Redskins took advantage and used an 84-yard pass to second-year receiver Malcolm Kelly to spark a two-touchdown second quarter, overcoming a 13-point defecit to take a 14-13 lead at the half.

The Chargers' back-ups had moved the ball inside Washington's 20-yard line as the first quarter expired and they moved to the Redskins' four-yard line quickly behind two runs and an eight-yard pass from Volek to Craig Davis, but Washington's defense buckled down after that.

Rocky McIntosh and H.B. Blades combined for a tackle for a loss on first down and the Chargers were unable to get into the end zone on their next two plays and eventually settled for a 24-yard field goal to extend the lead to 13-0.

The Redskins responded and finally got on the board on their next drive, moving the ball on a sustained drive that lasted 11 plays and ate several minutes off the clock.

Washington moved the ball mostly behind Jason Campbell, who used several short passes to Santana Moss, Malcolm Kelly and Antwaan Randle El to move the ball down the field. Cambell found Randle El for 12 yards to keep the drive moving on a third down early, then found Rock Cartwright for 19 yards on third and 10 and hit Moss and Kelly on back-to-back plays to move Washington to the Chargers 10-yard line.

Two plays later, Campbell used a play-action fake and found Todd Yoder alone in the back of the end zone to get Washington on the board with 5:16 remaining in the half and pull the Redskins within 13-7.

Washington's defense again held the Chargers offense - still made up of nearly all back-ups - and forced a punt, taking over at their own 12-yard line. On the next play, Washington came up with a huge play, as Campbell found Kelly in stride and the second-year receiver raced to the four-yard line before being taken down from behind.

The 84-yard pass was a career long for Campbell, and it set up a touchdown three plays later on a three-yard pass to fullback Mike Sellers that gave the Redskins a 14-13 lead with 39 seconds to play before the half.

Winning this game?

It's 14-13 at the half.

I fully expect the Skins Starters to find a way to lose to the Bolts Backups.

Would anyone be surprised?

Norv is laughing in the locker room at the half ..

So maybe Zorn, a decent human being, wins his valedictory game against a terrific team, a team coached by a guy Dan Snyder canned with a winning record and three games left in the season. So maybe Campbell, another decent guy, puts up some impressive stats and shows he belongs in this league. So maybe we finish this kidney stone of a season with a nice feeling that will last--maybe--until the first snarky call on the postgame show. Maybe we send Sam Huff, a joy to listen to, out with a win. And we want to squander all this just for the chance of keeping the slot Mike Williams was originally drafted in?

On second thought, mebbe it is in Camp's best interest to lose the game. That way Skins draft #4 and possibly pick up elite QB giving him his freedom. If they can't get an elite QB then they may keep him another year or two until Bark is available.

Someone asked if there is any reason to keep Zorn.....well maybe:

Dick Vermiel's record with Rams:

1997 5-11
1998 4-12
1999 13-3 Super Bowl Champs

The recipe is simple. Zorn returns, Campbell goes down with an ACL tear in the pre-season and then Colt Brennan takes over a leads us to the promise land

Brennan assumes the role of Kurt Warner because Hawaii's offense was pretty much like an Arena teams.

Firing Zorn could be the worse decision every made by ownership.

Keep in mind that being drafted in the 1st round is guarantee of success. There are plenty 1st round picks who have ended up as busts. So really, for those hoping for another pick, I wouldn't automatically assume that that player is going be a guaranteed success.

Why? Everyone knew from Day 1 the season rode on the health of the Oline. People tried to polish turds at the beginning of the season and downplay our NFC East rivals, but most of the talking heads who get paid for their opinions had us dead last in the division.

No, my vote for worst season was the Year of the Shotty, which contained the classic offseason blunders of a) firing Brad Johnson, who would prove to be serviceable 5 years after we let him go, and b) firing Shottenheimer, who threatened to actually instill an identity and solid foundation to an organization that would go on to lack both to this day.

so the difference is 4th to 6th if Skins lose. That could knock the Skins out of the QB lotto. Assuming Campbell gets a RFA Offer.

With a good final showing here.. Campbell might get the Skins a 1st round pick compensation if he does get a high Offer from another team.

JLC actually had a compelling article on NFL.com that brought up the complications resulting from a potential lockout in 2011.

Shanahan will probably demand a guaranteed contract or some other protective clause, and we've seen how 'guaranteed' motivates our slack-arsed stars.

The truth is, this team needs to go into full rebuild mode, and it's going to take more than 2010 to do it. Case in point, if we tender Carlos Rogers, another team would have to serve up a 2nd rounder... Not good for moving him. But the reverse is true for players we might want who are all suddenly RFAs because of the CBA. We don't have infinite draft picks to slurp up RFAs.

Some good players could be looking for a one year payout, but again, DS ain't the only big spender who might wanna try to buy a SB.

So long term... I'm a fan of using 2010 as a get out of jail free card for all the sins of the last 10 years. Since there are no guarantees in 2011, keep Zorn, let the overpaid vets play out their bloated contracts, and then when we know what the future holds, we have a clean slate to start from.

She probably should have, because that b*tch doesn't EVER attempt to offer any other variation of precipitation, (rain, sleet, hail, freezing rain), only white snow in the northeast during the winter.

It would be nice if she cold be opened minded and offer some different forms of precipitation once in a while except white flaky snow all the time. I'm pretty sure people would have a hard time dealing with freezing rain, hail, or sleet as much as white snow.

I got Davis, and... that's about it.

Thomas had one good game against a team who has been exposed down the stretch. And then got hurt. Again.

Yes, there for awhile it looked like the backups were playing harder when they had that run there versus the Broncos, Eagles, Saints, and Dallas.

Turns out the Broncos are looking to end their season early, the Eagles aren't stopping anyone on D these days, and the Saints D has been exposed. And they still only managed 1-3.

This is the first time ever I've pulled for us to lose. Carma for you, now we'll probably win. We need that draft position if not to trade down for more picks or whatever.

Did anyone just see the second interception return for KC? Also, Seattle is helping us out too.

I see everyone gave up, but the chargers pulled it out for us. 23 seconds left for 4th pick!

Well, didn't need Seattle to win after all, than you Chargers, my second favorite team, where I come from, but I will always bleed skins. Dang we needed that 4th pick for leverage if not QB. Maybe we get more picks now, who knows.
