Redskins trade Justin Tryon (updated)
Update: Tryon is no longer with the Redskins, according to a league source; however, he was not released as previously reported, but traded.
NFL Network's Jason La Canfora is reporting that Tryon was traded to the Indianapolis Colts for an undisclosed draft pick.
Previous post:
Redskins cornerback Justin Tryon was released today, according to a league source, losing out in the numbers crunch at defensive back.
A fourth-round draft pick out of Arizona State in 2008, Tryon played a big role last season when he stepped in for Fred Smoot as the nickel corner and played well defending receivers in the slot.
New defensive coordinator Jim Haslett plans to use cornerback Carlos Rogers in the slot more this season, however, and Kevin Barnes and Phillip Buchanon surpassed Tryon on the depth chart this preseason. Tryon played in 29 career games with the Redskins, making one start, and registered just one interception and one sack.
Tight end Lee Vickers was also released, a league source confirmed. Vickers signed with the Redskins as a free agent in January, and was behind Chris Cooley and Fred Davis on the depth chart. Vickers was battling Logan Paulsen for a job if the Redskins were to keep three tight ends.

I agree with this statement, but if you are going to use an example, use one that actually supports your statement.
The idea of having another top notch WR is nice, but I think the cost for V. Jackson is too high. Both in his salary demands, and the Chargers' trade demands. I think we should look elsewhere or stick with what we've got.

During the off season, some website (or sports channel) did an average age of all teams in the league and the Redskins were the oldest.
I'd be curious to see the same analysis done after the cuts. If we drop Willie Parker and are keeping some of these younger WRs, we might actually not be the oldest team any more...

Posted by: beep-beep | September 4, 2010 12:14 PM |
Don't know why you would say that. Zorn never succeeded at anything beyond being a QB coach. McDaniels was a successful OC under Bill Belichick. The 2007 Pats set all kinds of O records. If it weren't for the inept personnel aptitude of Snyderrato Zorn would to this day be the faceless assistant he was with the Shehawks.

Tryon can only cover the slot well. Barnes plays perimeter better when Rogers is used in the slot. That's the reason for this move. Tryon will probably get picked up--he's good enough to play in this league.

My point is that calling him "straight garbo" is downright tard. The starting WR duo of Eddie Royal and Lloyd is better than anything the Skins will put on the field. Royal is better than Moss and off of his recent performance Lloyd is better than any geezer or brain dead player the Skins select to tandem up with Moss.

Lots of quality (overpaid) guys getting cut -- I think b/c they are overpaid per performance. I bet another blocking TE gets picked up.
They just haven't tweeted the offensive line depth cuts, but there are so many obvious choices, esp. 7th round draft choice Eric Cook (center). I'd be interested to see how many draft picks stick. Unlike the Vinny era, these guys seem ready to cut their own draft picks (see Dennis Morris, 4th round).

I'm thinking we should go after Housh, as an improvement over JGalloway. Dude turns 33 in 3 weeks, 6'2", 203#, has had no fewer than 73 receptions in last 6 years.
