Redskins trail by 10 after 1st quarter
With neither team playing for much - San Diego has already clinched home field advantage and Washington was eliminated from playoff contention long ago - the game had a chance to lack energy. Instead, San Diego showed it was eager to continue its success early in the game when the starters were playing and they quickly got out to a 10-0 lead.
The Chargers opened the game with the ball on their own 25-yard line and marched down the field through the arm of standout quarterback Phillip Rivers, who dumped some passes off short for big gains and also found receiver Malcolm Floyd for bigger gains to take the Chargers to the Redskins 31-yard line.
Rivers should have been intercepted on a second-down deep pass, but the ball went right through the hands of Fred Smoot, who was playing safety, and the Chargers eventually settled for a 47-yard field goal from Nate Kaeding to take a 3-0 lead.
Washington promptly went three and out on its first possession and San Diego took over on its 39-yard line and showed why it is considered one of the top teams in the league.
With Rivers again leading the way, the Chargers drove quickly down the field. On the 11th play of the drive, Rivers used a nice touch pass to the corner of the end zone to find tight end Antonio Gates and put San Diego up 10-0 with 6:42 remaining in the quarter.
Washington was able to move the ball a bit more on offense on its second possession, going 36 yards into San Diego territory to the 36-yard line, but they eventually stalled. Instead of choosing to kick a long field goal, however, the Redskins opted to punt and San Diego took over on its own 20 yard line.
Rivers took a seat at this point, as did many starters, and backup Billy Volek was under center, but with his first pass he found Floyd on a 50-yard pass down the sideline. The quarter ended with a San Diego first down inside the Redskins 20-yard line.

Hello Everyone!
REading some of you talking about the Skins drafting as high as possible....
Personally, I believe the Skins MUST, MUST, MUST trade down ... a couple of times!
They must pick up more picks, cut vets making too much money, creating an atmosphere of hard work, uncertainty of making the team etc.
For example:
# 5 Pick traded down for the #12 pick and two other picks.
Then they could trade down their RD 2 pick for for a couple of other picks as well.
Vinny left us no depth, not a playoff roster!
Hail!

Sam Bradford will be our QB next year, if MS is the coach. It's as good as a done deal, there have already been extensive discussions with Stoops and the current GM.

Cleve wins, KC 7-0 over Den, SD 10-0 over Skins. #4 is within reach! A boy called Suh! Woo, Woo! The Okie Okung! Okey Dokey!

I KNOW EVERYONE HATES DALLAS WITH A PASSION, INCLUDING MYSELF, BUT ID RATHER DALLAS WIN TODAY AND SO PHI DOESNT GET THE NUM 2 SEED. ALSO, IF THEY WIN AND GB WIN THERES A CHANCE THAT PHI AND DALLAS WILL REMATCH NEXT WEEK IN A GAME THAT DALLAS COULD VERY WELL LOSE

They sustained the drive and scored despite Campbell's throws.
Interesting comments from Lynch/ Sounds like he had a long talk with Shanny about what the Redskins do...and do not...have on the roster.

Lets go Billy... take a long drive for TD before half, LOL
Yes I'm openly, blatantly, unabashedly and unashamedly rooting for the Redskins to lose this game so as to not endanger their draft pick.

Shanahan will suck to. He didnt build anything and hasnt done anything and hes gonna suck and we will be in the same freakin position. I dont want Shanahan. He was fired for a reason. Cmon' get us someone thats not already a reject and that has some qualifications. I dont think there is much in the QB line coming out in the draft either. Hopen Allen doesnt pick up where Vinnys stupidity left off.

With a franch QB in Eli, a lot of dudes would like to be HC. That's something Cowher never had the lux of. In fact, in his big SB win, his QB, Big Ben, practically gave the game to Hawks.

Yeah, I mean I know its suckin out there coach prospect wise, "no one pure" except pure Bullsh$%, and Gibbs 1.o doesnt grow on trees but I dont see waisting time and money trying to give a "reject" a shot in here for two or three years either. Seems like you stick with what youve got unless you can better. The O-line is what kicked our noogies as much as anything which was Vinnys bag not bringin more in. So I hear yall, I just feel like we would save time and do better waiting until there is someone thats worthy and thanks for your input really. Skins fans need to stick together cuz each other is all we have right now.
